Since people love quotes with a profound meaning behind them, here's one that isn't that at all:
"If an orange and a watermelon wear the same sized baseball cap, they can both see that it simply doesn't work."

Gods and Generals - Lt. Col. Joshua Chamberlain's anti-slavery speech "An army is power"

My favorite speech from the movie Gods and Generals.
Calling them “Nature’s higher goons” is so accurate and I love it
I love raccoons so much but I’ve never been able to see or touch one irl (I live in a state where it’s illegal to own them as pets it’s horrible) and I just wanna know Are they soft? Gimme a 1-10 scale and describe plz give comparisons plz I need this info
Thank you Jeff Daniel's for the performance. Thank you Joshua Chamberlain for the performance.
🤣🤣🤣 An Australia wedding lolol, can confirm!
Sad thing is that the negro’s life after slavery ended didn’t become better, but became worse. First came the KKK and then came the politicians. Question is who is worse: a group of people that tortured and hung the negro because of the color of their skin or a group of people that continue to use the slave as an excuse to justify staying power just to continue to make the slave’s descendants suffer probably worse than the slave themselves?
I'm a southern man but he was a great man and soldier I served and have read about him be proud
Until I saw the directors cut I thought this was his last scene until I saw him and his wife at the theater with booth after he did his act
The raccoons is a wonderfull and precious gift from God
Watch the Chamberlain scenes in the movie, skip the rest.
Wonderful critters
As a lover of raccoons I appreciate this so much! Thank you. If you need additional footage for music videos you’ll want to check out my channel. Wild raccoons play instruments, sports, creating art, celebrating holidays, and much more. What a beautiful ode to a marvelous species!!!!! 😃🤎🦝
"I believe they are wrong but I cannot question their integrity." We need more people to think like that!
Great Movie And Chamberlain A Great Leader Of Men

Daniels was much slimmer in Gettysburg than in this film.
And Howell too
I love this movie but THIS one my least favorite scenes
i hate this scene. worst one of the movie fr tho
I bet you feel silly about that now Mr Chamberlain
the film was crap, portraying the black slaves smiling and clapping near the beginning of the film when the new confederate troops were marching, I doubt that happened in real life, it should have shown whipped colored people, that would have been more realistic. And not just the disney-like portrayal of slavery, the actors themselves acted like a theatre play, not like the real acting of Gettysburg, that film showed a 50-50 point of view of both sides, and the acting was more normal, Lee (martin sheen) was more human than the robotic Robert Duvall in G&Gs (no offence to Robert Duvall, he is a great actor in most films).
Yeah, this movie on the whole is gross lost cause propaganda. I think Roger Ebert said “if a movie about ww2 were handled this way, there’d be hell to pay.”
So every civil war movie supposed to have a black person who was in the south acting miserable? My friend you need to stop looking at history from a modern lens.
@@attiepollard7847 if I was a slave I'd be miserable.
@@shanebell2514 yes but not all of them was it would depend on the behavior of the slave master
@@attiepollard7847 I doubt even the most content of slaves would smile and cheer on the troops that was raised to protect the continuation of slavery.
Chamberlain was a man of high ideals, but I prefer the more personal view expressed by Buster in “Gettysburg.” “I damn all gentlemen- and that is why we’ve got to win this war.”
His speech to the Maine prisoners that his regiment had to take in was even better than this, spoke to our nations purpose and beginnings as much as the war’s purpose
You can really tell by the expression on Toms face at the end that Chamberlain had changed his entire perspective on the subject
I feel this movie while not the greatest, gets a bad rap as confederate propaganda, when in actuality there was to be a third movie that was going to be showing the Union position in depth, so it’s an incomplete trilogy, Gettysburg was great and timeless and this one suffers because it’s incomplete of sorts since the third movie was never made making it seem like it was a blatant attempt at neo-confederate lost cause type propaganda when in actuality it was never the aim of this movie for the mere fact it was never supposed to be a stand alone film.
Because everyone wants to look at it from a modern 21st century lens. Instead of looking at it from an independent history lens.
There should not be two standards of justice in America.
But it was and we had to deal with
Slavery "exists in every corner of the world." The British might have had grounds to object to that assertion! 😀
Well they did end slavery before the United States.
@@attiepollard7847 The people in their colonies would beg to differ.
@@buttbuttson737 and I disagree with them it ended in all of the colonies under the uk

Uuuggg don’t call ‘em darkies; …….. really? Is that what (average) 19th century was calling free & enslaved people? OK (wink)
Yes big deal
Bowdoin College produced some tremendous soldiers. Joshua Chamberlain, and MOH winner Everett Pope, who went to school with Ack Ack Haldane, who is considered to be one of finest battlefield Marine Officers of WW2
Jeff Daniels doesn't need rousing music when delivering a Civil War sermon on the heavy price of fighting and freedom, he IS the music!
别叫我劳伦斯
And they say this film is pro-confederacy. 🤦♂️
That last scene was powerful.
Trăiască Patria, Cât Soarele Ceresc Rai Bogat Pamântesc Cu Mare Falnic Nume. Fie-n Veci Pământ Prosper Fie Pentru Noi Fie-n Veci Locuit de Eroi, Eroi.
Good acting ... Good film. But it was a film and this war was NOT about slavery. This is how todays myth that the white man is solely responsible for slavery came about. Does it ever get mentioned about how the slaves got to the coast in Africa because it sure as hell wasn't white men bringing them there, or capturing them in the first place . He was a great commander and his defence of little round top was out of all proportion in terms of importance to the Union, and the USA today but you know this kind of shit happens in every war on all sides don't you ? Men do brave things but to hijack it to somehow show the inherent "goodness" of his cause is what is being done here and my God does it cause trouble still to this day.
It may not have been the opening reason for the war but as it went on it become one of the reasons. Even if slavery still in place you were still going to see rebellions all over the country to end slavery in the near future
The north might not have been fighting to free the slaves initially but the south were sure as hell fighting to keep them. Read any primary document from the formation of the confederacy.
“Good film” Lmfao. This movie is ridiculous lost cause propaganda nonsense
@@MichaelCasanovaMusic you just don't like the fact that were given the South in this movie's a semi sympathetic face. So what we don't supposed to feel sorry for the southerners who were troops and civilians?
Each one of them a whole person loved and cherished in some home far away, many of them will never return, gets me crying every time
Jeff Daniels was a great choice to play Colonel/Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.
To bad si much of the dialog is made up and not actually historically based.
It is it may not be from the main character but these words echo in time in the past
Thank you
Picket would still have a division if not for that proclamation
Chamberlain is a hero
He wasn't. Just look at how blacks in the US are now and what they're doing. He caused this.
Chamberlain is the rare person who expressed tremendous amounts of moral courage and battle field courage.
Did Chamberlain actually say this? Or was this just added
Se uno non si sente raprentato dalla repubblica in Romania questo vale per ogni stato libero e democratico, giusto che cambi con la monarhia
Who ever wrote this piece of the script, it was well done and well said.
And no other actor, other than Daniels, could’ve done a better job, IMO
Once again Jeff Daniels knocks it out of the park. My favorite leader from Gettysburg is Chamberlain
The look on Howell's face when he says "Don't call ******s ******s." "But I want to!" 🤣
Why did Jeff Daniels use a southern accent in this one but not in Gettysburg? When neither movie needed it.
