I think the basjoo will probably be knocked to the ground but should come up with a vengeance! im doing an experiment this year with my large clump, ive wrapped half the clump with straw and frost fleece and a builders bag and left the other half unprotected will be interesting to see how they fair comparatively 🤔🤷‍♂️

I would remove the mulch around it. Also check If it is planted too deep as well. CUT back on the watering. Check the spil before each watering. Wait wait wait. Mark the spear with a marker to see If its growing. If it for some reaspn still looks like this by Mid June next year I recommend you cut of part of the trunk to encourage new growth.

You have standing water in that area. Drill holes in the ground and put tube with holes drilled in it into those holes.
