FAIR WARNING, a bit ramble here: I shipped Bonnie and Damon from the start, I personally love “enemies to lovers” tropes. This one did so well in truly flushing out how they worked through their differences, and began to have genuine positive chemistry together. Bonnie helped Damon become for more human, while hanging on to the whimsical nature that made him who he was. Their Time in the prison world, in my opinion, should have opened that door for a romance as we clearly see they are FAR closer than ever before. Plus the line “you talk in your sleep” to me seemed like an innuendo that they were sleeping together, aka hooking up. Which makes sense since they were alone, with no company but each other for MONTHS. People got needs after all, but maybe that’s just my head canon. Regardless of Bonnies positive impact though, I’m not denying that Elena had a positive impact on Damon too. I personally just don’t think she was healthy for him. He was completely obsessed with her, and in my opinion obsession is not love. His entire life was revolving around her happiness, and he even burned other people he was close to just for Elena. While that sounds romantic, it’s self destructive and made him spiral many times. He never learned to be good without her, he just learned to he good for her. Which is why when she was in the coffin he spiraled and went off the rails. While Bonnie was a person who just made him good, we genuinely saw her impact on him regardless of the situation. Which to me shows that Bonnie truly helped him as a person. Meanwhile Damon helped Bonnie, he supported her and believed in her. He relied on her and, if Elena wasn’t involved, went out of his way to put her first. On top of this, Damon was the kite to her line. Bonnie is a very grounded person, extremely head strong and independent. She often forgets to focus on her happiness because she’s focussing on everyone else’s. Damon is the kite, he is whimsical and light hearted. He find the humor in even the darkest of situations, while never truly treating that dark situation as if it were meaningless. They completed each other in many ways. While I love Enzo, I feel as though the relationship between Bonnie and Enzo was extremely forced. It came out of nowhere, and their chemistry also seems a bit forced too. Knowing how the writers felt about Bonnies actress, and the characters of Damon and Bonnie hooking up, they most likely pushed Enzo with her just to have her taken…then ultimately ripped that person away from her so she ended alone…god they did her wrong. Anyway so my end game couples End game: I personally thought it would make more sense if Elena ended up with Matt. He was set up from the beginning to be love interest in conflict with Stephen as her human pull, but it never escalated. I think after Elena became human, she should have been able to live her life with Matt. Speaking of mortality, I think Damon would stay a vampire and be with Bonnie. We know witches can extend their lives to unnatural lengths via magic, Bonnie and Damon could have live a VERY long and happy life together. We also know that Bonnie isn’t opposed to becoming a vampire, she considered it with Enzo but wanted to give it more thought before he ended up dying. I feel like the possibility of her and Damon living for eternity together was definitely a possibility. It could have been left open for the fans to decide as a sort of, “they have time due to her extended youth, it’s up to you guys.” Caroline should have been with Klaus, assuming Stephan still sacrifices himself, and I do NOT think Klaus should have died at the end of originals. That however is getting into a lot of other topics, and I’ve rambled enough as is, so I’ll end it there.
