    Thanks, never Zwifted, but just received my Zift Ride. I was planning on using a cheap tablet but just learnt that's not going to work. So figured I'd get a 10th gen ipad but then learnt Zwift is kinda crap on Apple devices. Soooooo here I am trying to figure out what to do next 😅 Really don't want to pay the same money just to enjoy a decent Zwift app experience as I just paid for the Ride... Plus I really prefer a nimble setup rather than a computer 😬

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling День назад

      I still think Zwift ran best/fastest on the iPad, just didn’t look great. They possibly fixed that though since I did this comparison? The best setup at the moment looks to be a new M4 Mac mini - cheap, small, and quick.

    • @JustBrowsing777

      @TBBCycling thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I heard good things about the latest Mac Mini as a computer and it is indeed both small and powerful 🙂 Haven't seen anyone say Zwift looks good, though, even if everyone does say it runs well on iOS.

    • @TBBCycling

      It seems like you can run the higher end graphics profiles with the new Mac mini, but you’re probably wise to wait to see what people think!

      @TBBCycling short term solution decided. Old 1080p monitor and an Apple TV 4K. That'll get me Swifting. Then decide later if I feel like I want to go for better. Thanks for your feedback and video 🙂

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling День назад

      Welcome! Zwift splits the workout plans into weeks, then days for that week. You don’t have to do them in order, but that’s how they’re designed and probably work best. Good luck!

    thanks for sharing. So you have to follow day by day or did you schedule shifted some workouts?looking at the time schedule, christimas is coming and i might be off of the bike for some days... BTW, i did a 2 week VO2 max workout plan and got a 4% increase in FTP. i found not so hard but with a very fast paid off, even an upgrade to Cat B :P

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling Месяц назад

      Thanks man - you don't have to follow the workouts as they're scheduled, you can shift them around a bit. There were days that I was supposed to do long workouts, but didn't have time, so did one of the shorter ones instead. That being said - they're arranged by week and build on eachother, so it's best to try to stick to the weekly schedules as much as possible I think. Congrats on the gains and good luck with the B's!

  • @1carusjohn32
    @1carusjohn32 Месяц назад

    That's a fair increase. I found the plan not ambitious enough with regard to the overall loading. But it does get a result so can't fault it from that respect. I did this along time ago when just starting out like yourself, but, like this year, when getting back into fitness I don't so much look at the ftp number, although in the last 8 weeks I have had almost the same numbers and uplift as yourself from that respect. Initially I focused on the zone 2 stuff, just plodding around, and a couple of fartek rides or zwift races per week, like you just getting dropped and riding at the back solo for a few weeks. What I tried to do here was ride either really easy Z1/Z2 or hard and stay out of sweet spot. Once I was happy with the zone 2 work started being more structured with threshold interval session trying to progress the endurance aspect and Time To Exhaustion. For VO2, I would race a couple of times a week, but think carefully of what I was getting out of the race, which can be route specific. You will push yourself harder in a race than an interval training session, you know you are gonna have a 3 min full gas start, a reasonable first 10 min effort then some sort of climb vo2 effort. I don't worry about positioning doing this, I just drop back to the next group once I have reached an effort goal, sit and rest up in the pack until I get to the next part of the course to the work I want to do. The results from having a flexible approach that it is really enjoyable, might not be as good as a dedicated coached training plan, but you can have so much more fun with it on the platform that will keep you more engaged for longer. Be careful not to have too much fun though especially if you do races for a win, and remember you do have to rest to improve.

The race category I was assigned to seems very strength focused and I often find myself pushing through a bit more which leads to higher ftp, of course it could be my psychology holding me back, since I'm not hitting noodle legs in either scenario.....

    Hey, a bit context: I started cycling in May 2023 and Zwifting in November 2023. From Jan 2024 onwards I did this plan. I was assigned an FTP of 185 in the beginning and 226 in the end. Have to admit though I was pretty clueless in the beginning, so 185 was probably underestimating a bit and likewise 226 overestimating a bit because I was ridiculously motivated when taking the test. Manually reduced my FTP to 210 in Zwift and now in week 11/12 of taking the plan again. Curious what the FTP test next week will look like.

    Hey Tim, bummer! Just so you know, the rule is pretty clear - you must be involved in the crash (i.e., hit the ground, suffer a mechanical from someone hitting you, etc.) to get a free lap. I've had this conversation with officials several times, if you are "merely" impeded by the crash, you do not qualify for a free lap; you're expected to catch back on. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting anything controversial, but if you are "involved" in a crash, you should at the least hit the ground :) Better luck next time!

    • @cjharrer01
      @cjharrer01 5 месяцев назад

      I'll add a little clarification - the rules says it's a referee decision if your being impeded is significant enough to give you a free lap. Meaning you had to go off course, step off you bike or otherwise: "IMPEDED: Riders significantly delayed by a crash that causes a temporary blockage of the road (not a race stoppage) may request a free lap. Riders that have been significantly delayed (having to get off bikes, step over riders, forced detour off course to continue, etc.). may report for a free lap. Riders reporting are subject to the decision of the officials monitoring the course to allow the free lap" I have been denied a free lap in the past :(

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Chris - this is really interesting actually and important for me to know! So this is the wording that I found: IMPEDED: Riders significantly delayed by a crash that causes a temporary blockage of the road (not a race stoppage) may request a free lap. Riders that have been significantly delayed (having to get off bikes, step over riders, forced detour off course to continue, etc.). may report for a free lap. Riders reporting are subject to the decision of the officials monitoring the course to allow the free lap. When provided by the race organizer, riders should report to an area that allows staging for re-entry without interfering with crashed riders or those that need mechanical assistance in the pit. All re-entry into the race shall be under the supervision of the pit official. So it seems like it's up to the race official I guess?? Maybe sort of a gray area? I definitely had to put my foot down and come to a complete stop, so perhaps it was better if I just fell over!

    • @cjharrer01
      @cjharrer01 5 месяцев назад

      @@TBBCycling it's definitely up to the official if you didn't fall. In my case, I was told that I had to catch up so I just dropped out. Talking to a different official afterwards he said along the lines of "if you go down, there is no judgement, you fell", he smiled, said I didn't tell you to fall and walked away. It's always worth asking, but remember, it will take time to ask and if it's denied, you're even further back. At any rate, sorry it happened to you, I would have continued as you did, even though there was very low probability you were going to catch back on.

      well, i put 32mm in rear & 28 mm in front for the last 6 months. it feels fabulous. lil bit slower when you start or accelerate (compared to 25 or 28mm), but no difference once you ride 25km/h or faster.. the most important thing about 32mm rear tyre is MUCH MORE comfortable for long ride (i wont go back to 25 or 28mm), especially if you ride 100 km or more.. i stick with 28mm in front because i still want sharp roadbike-riding feeling, its lighter, and its more aero, also cyclist weight distribution is 60-65% on the rear tyre, so i think its ok to put narrower tyre upfront. Maybe most real life roads are bad enough to make up the difference? Or we’re not going fast enough for the better aerodynamics to matter? Either way, it was a good test for me knowing that the faster tire was still faster for me, even in the wider width.

    I finished this plan this week. I went into the plan with a 237 FTP and in the early stages of the plan hit 245 w for an hour during Zwift Games. I reset my FTP for the plan to match that 245W. The plan then ramped up but I did not see any gains above 245w. I’m sitting around 240w at the moment so I don’t think I can conclusively say that I had any FTP gains from the plan itself. Racing twice a week and z2 the rest of the week seems to be as effective as structured training for me as it took me from 185W to 245W in about 8 months.

    Nice results with the zwift training plan. I started similarly doing one earlier in the year and just turned 40 as well. I’m still on the fence about what training plans to use, but I’ve just been doing my own unstructured thing after I started having sciatica issues after doing the FTP ramp test! I wish more of these plans incorporated strength and other aspects. I had been told my core strength was my weak point, but never had any plan for what to do until now. Good luck and maybe 300w ftp will be on your horizon! Gotta have a goals.

      Thank you! Good luck with your plan. My thought was that nearly any structured plan was better than nothing. At the very least it would motivate me to stick to a stricter riding schedule, but I actually think it made me a stronger cyclist overall as well. Next off season I may aim to do a more targeted crit specific plan, but this was a good introduction to training plans in general I think. +1 on the core strength! I think mine is also weak and have suffered with lower back pain on/off for the last 10 or so years. A few years ago I started lifting weights more regularly and that definitely helped for a while, but when I put that time into cycling instead my back started acting up again. I think that core strength is a weakness for many cyclists, so if you find a good training plan for that let us all know!

    A little pointless testing a slower rolling All Season tyre against a faster 'race' tyre if you are trying to understand width affects.

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling 6 месяцев назад

      Perhaps, but only if you blindly believe the marketing - I like to check these things for myself and now I know. There's also maybe not that big of a difference in rolling resistance than you may think. I don't have access to the 'member only' data from Bicycle Rolling Resistance, but at 90psi they measure the AS 28mm CRR=0.0033, which is less than the S 32mm at 44psi of CRR=0.00384. Obviously you'd want to compare similar psi, but the difference may not be as far off as you would expect. A BRR member may be able to let us know.

    • @gerrysecure5874
      @gerrysecure5874 6 месяцев назад

      @@TBBCycling You never ride different width tyres at same pressure for a shitload of reasons. But your pressure difference is way off any reasonable bounds. Under same conditions the correct diff between 28mm and 32mm is less than 20psi. Check Silka tyre pressure calculator. Your measurement is useless.

    • @TBBCycling
      @TBBCycling 6 месяцев назад

      If you read my comment you know that the only reason I referenced those pressures was because I am not a member at BRR, so I don’t have access to all of their measurements - this was just to show that the rolling resistance difference probably isn’t as large as one would expect. These aren’t my measurements and I certainly wouldn’t recommend riding at those pressures. If you’re a BRR member and have useful measurements please do share.
