Matthew 4: Jesus is tested by the Devil before He begins His public ministry
As with every divine mission or calling, they must all be tested. Jesus begins the first of a lifetime of temptations by the Devil, as Satan tries to make Jesus fail in the same way Adam's failure brought the fall and sin into the human race.
Jesus' mission is to submit to the father and succeed where Adam had failed. Satan tries 3 major attempts to get Jesus to use His divine powers outside of the Father's will. In so doing, Jesus' mission will be a failure, and Satan will lay final claim to the Earth and the souls of men.
Jesus demonstrates for us the mechanism and methods for overcoming temptation. 1. being submitted to the father and 2. using the scripture as a spiritual weapon.
