Zappa fan since my sister's boyfriend (at the time) turned me on to Roxy and Elsewhere in 1978. I was 11.... Saw Dweezil 3x in 2024. Very glad he's carrying it on!

When listening to the '72 live music, consider this: After being pushed from the stage in Dec. 1971, he spent time in the wheelchair, wrote the music for and recorded two albums with big band and smaller band - The Grand Wazoo and Waka/Jawaka. 9 months to the day after being pushed from the stage, he mounted the (albeit brief) tour known as The Grand Wazoo with the 20-piece orchestra, finished that up, pared it down to 10-pieces and went back on tour with new music, including this gem. Think of ANY other pop musician who may be pushed from a stage and wind up in a wheelchair. Would they be as active, both in the studio and already touring in 9 months, or sitting, staring off into space after taking handfuls of pain killers? You can't keep a good man down.

I think the reason that Zappa is untouchables on the guitar is because he knew music like someone knows how to spell their name. The stuff he played was the result of all that knowledge being applied to an instrument and god knows how many hours of rehearsals. Zappa was and remains the best example of taking music theory, applying it, and taking it to places where few have ever thought of taking it.

Frank smoked cigarettes,but didn't drink or do drugs. I smoke,drink and Don't do drugs and still can't play a damn guitar or compose/conduct music !! Some guys are just gifted,Salut Mr Zappa !!
