NRL Hunter: A how to and What's what
Просмотров 9 тыс.Год назад
In this episode I will discuss in detail the NRL Hunter Series the gear I compete with as well as what to expect and how to break down a stage.
I have heard that Tikkas are slow and this one shows about 100 fps slower than some of the other models. Do they usually speed up over time?
@wickedwagens it has been my experience as well that tikka barrels are slower than others. This barrel did speed up from when it was new. With my hunting loads for my seekins it is about 30 fps slower so not that much. In this video the Tikka had at least 500 rounds through it.
I think it depends on bow and draw length. I shot a 60 pounder for a decade while my friends were pulling 70 or 80. But I had a 6 inch brace height and a longer draw length. So I had a smoother draw and still packed a massive punch on impact because it was a speed bow
@@carsonyoung9965 absolutely, not all bows are created equal. But this video was geared more toward 50 lbs and under and 27" draw and less. The considerations I lay out are more applicable to those specs.
@ right I was just hoping to dispel the idea that you gotta pull a ton of weight to be effective. Great video and love connecting with other archers
Why are the weights so high? A 11-12lb 6.5 creedmoor is heavy for packing on a mountain hunt. I understand if you buy a savage off the shelf and it’s got a fiberglass stock but these guys are running expensive rifles and adding weight so 6.5 barely moves. Should have them run a mile before each stage with all the gear…
@glenoh88 it is a business. We need to appeal to as broad a spectrum as possible and still keep the spirit of the match together. 12 lbs in factory gets eaten uo pretty quick when you start adding arca rails and long bipods.
What are your thoughts on the seekins? Is it better then the bergara or it’s kinda personal preference? I’m debating between those 2 rifles and I want to do hunting/target shooting and I’m from the PNW?
@marks5049 the biggest deciding factor between the 2 is weight and then trigger pull weight. The seekins goes lighter in both categories. I like the lines of the HMR stock over begara's other options the squared crest stock is going to have very similar lines as the seekins. You won't go wrong with either option but you'll l be making the decision on what weight you prefer. I wanted lighter for back country hunting. But front country or range work the HMR will do better for recoil management.
Good video. Very clear, especially using secondary appstore as Strelok to building your own reticle With the Infiray software. What I don't like is the "FAIL" message in the video. I am using the same app but a different scope (TP25SE) and I am not able to update/upload my customized reticle into my scope. I was hoping to find a solution... but maybe the viewers do have some suggestion? Kind regards Mike from Netherlands
Very good content.
fantastic video, thanks for not rushing
Thanks, I felt like I was too long winded but I am glad it wasn't.
Try the norma match cheap. And shoots .30 groups out of my 6.5prc. Found for 23$a,box then redo test ..think factory anmo woyld be way better groups
uhm, uhm. uhm....
Yep it's one of those habits. I was thinking about doing a giveaway. On a future video where you guess how many umms I say for the year, and the closest person gets a prize pack.
@@reedallaboutitmedia I'm in
If I could only pick one cartridge it would be 6.5 PRC or 22 Creedmoore
I am currently having a 22 Creedmoor built it should be here this week. Looking forward to giving that a go as well. But yes 6.5 PRC is a very capable cartridge with tons of possibilities. I came to a very similar conclusion.
My Tikka shoots lights out with factory ammo, thats crazy that one didn’t. I have a Fierce Carbon Rival that is very accurate. Ive shot many sub .5” groups with it. My recipe is 56 g of h1000, adg brass, 147 eldm, cci250 primers. I loved the video. I also have a Seekins Element 7prc and ph2 in 300 prc. They both shoot pretty consistent sub .5” groups. I keep all my targets in binders to compare as the years go by. Great video, Ill look forward to more.
Thanks, that load just didn't seem to really shine in any of the rifles my Tikka won me the whitetail madness NRL hunter match last year, it shoots dang good. And they all are exceptional rifles in their own right. I will be working up an elk load for my seekins to try out tomorrow.
Why wouldnt you use factory ammo? Throwing out a random load makes no sense at all. Without a doubt the groups will shrink.
That's what I had it was nothing crazy I just wanted to see what shooting the same ammo through different rifles would look like all of them may have had better or different results based on a different loading. But not every rifle shoots factory loads well either. I know for a fact that the tikka doesn't shoot the 143 eld-x very well. I was surprised at the size of some of the groups with this load. I intend to get them all back and try them on what shoots well in them to showcase the potential of each rifle.
@@reedallaboutitmedia I have a t3x lite roughtech ember 6.5 prc stainless and it loves the Hornady 143 eld-x round. I did the same thing you did and shot a 3 3 shot group at 0.820! It’s unbelievably accurate straight out of the box!
@@henrysantos981 for the price tikka is always hard to beat.
Thank you! I’ll give those tips a try.
Great video! Thanks for the info! Just shot my first match and I probably watched this 5 times to get all my gear together. Thanks!
That's what I put it together for. Glad you found it helpful.
Thank you for the video!
I really appreciate the information! Do you think the light barrel on the Tikka is a problem during a match? I assume there is enough time between stages to cool?
With NRL hunter I never saw any impact shift even with a string of 8 rounds. Most of the time you're shooting less than 8 as you should be getting first round impacts which eliminates another shot all together. The tikka is a very good inexpensive platform for NRL Hunter.
Hoping to make a few of these Matchs this year. I live in the QaudCitiy area.
I just looked up the loaner program and if you don't have a membership you can't utilize it apparently. Kinda hinders the guys that wanna try a match like myself
Yeah but $100 or whatever the membership is is alot cheaper than a $750 tripod, a $1200-2000 rangefinders binoculars, $2000 rifle, $1000 scope, $300 pack. Take advantage of it, they have everything.
I’m considering getting into NRL hunter. This video was super helpful in figuring out how things work and what it really is. Thankyou!
I'm glad to hear it. I highly encourage you getting out and trying match.
How heavy is your back pack fully loaded?
My pack with tripod, extra gamechanger, pump pillow, snacks, mags, tools, rain gear, and ammo is probably 25-30 lbs. Sorry I didn't see your comment sooner.
@@reedallaboutitmedia no worries man, thanks for replying.
Great information. Good presentation most people talk too quickly.
good video
So, what are the max distances and can this be shot with a bog standard AR15?
Run what you have, that being said it must be done safely. So if you cannot confidently keep your rounds on the berm then. Skip that target. Typical shots are 300-1100 yards. No shame in skipping targets.
Thanks. I participated in High Desert Brutality this year and Cornfield Brutality its first and last year. Was looking for something like that but without having to drive to Utah.@@reedallaboutitmedia
