Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple In Concert Live BBC March 9th 1972
480p is recommended for best quality.
This is a very rare recording of Deep Purple's ''Smoke On The Water'' taken from the double CD album ''Live In Concert'' recorded on 9th of March at the London Paris Theatre in 1972.
In the album's original 1980 vinyl release, it was missing the songs ''Maybe I'm A Leo'' and ''Smoke On The Water''. A later double second release of the album featured the two missing tracks from that show and all of Mike Harding's speech in between songs.
This has to be the band's best recorded version of the song as it sounds more fuller and rawrer than the Machine Head studio LP version recorded in Switze...

This is a top ten live album of all time. Mandrke root. It’s better than mij, for purple
Que performance de Deep Purple. Todo su virtuosismo y potencia en vivo. Un himno del rock
Un clásico de clásicos. Himno por siempre
Ritchie is completely unhinged. I love it.
Talento e creatività! Eccezionali Deep Purple erano avanti 50 anni ! Ancor oggi meravigliosi. Mauri 1960 ❤️🇮🇹🇬🇧
Super versión de Smoke on the water
-My second favorite live version
I remember buying this LP early 80's
I had this album on vinyl , in my youth , just listening ot it now .. one of the best live albums I have heard . Pure magic
This will be in GTA 6 :o
Gillan was in fine form
The best deep purple you will ever hear, same with Led Zep BBC sessions. Listen first before telling me I'm wrong.
That "imperfect" monster of a solo!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love LORD
Jon Lord Wow
The description is off for this, the title is correct! Deep Purple played an entire 'concert' at the BBC studios on March 9th, 1972. Just a short time before "Machinehead" was released. This is NOT from a performance in France. Whoever edited this starts and ends the song exactly on time where you don't hear any of the audience much less Ian Gillan's introduction to the song. "For all intensive purposes this is, in the truest sense, rhythm and blues. Can't be bad, in my opinion I suppose. This is 'Maybe I'm A Leo'. Maybe I'm not, but..." This is the same performance where apparently, Gillan starts to dance to "The Stripper" song and the MC (Mike Harding) from the BBC glibly says, "Pity it's not television." as those listening can only guess at what is happening as they listen to their radios. This performance, in its entirety, is available elsewhere on RUclips. Just half to search for it! 😉

Accompanied by the best band ever 👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀😀
The metronome Mr Ian Paice 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Hard to hear it on this recording but the mp3 I have of HS on this album really brings out Blackmore's heavy, droning power-chords that are travelling just under Lord's keyboard solo from about 2:06 all the way to around 2:46. I don't play guitar but I know what I like and that sound Blackmore is laying down in that stretch is simultaneously subtle and monster. Can anyone who plays tell us what he's doing there? It gives me the chills every time I hear it. Deep Purple IS hard rock!
An older '72 Strat set on the neck pick-up via a Marshall JCM 900 with a boosted secondary output stage. The chord is D omit 3. Just let it ring - and the guitar will feedback with a variety of tones - all dependent on where you're standing in relation to the speaker cabinet. Once the organ solo begins to descend, the chords used are the bottom, i.e., 1-5-1 (e-a-d strings) A, G#, G, F# then to F and then to Dm - to Am back to D - D F G F D. I don't recall if RB used his Hornby-Skewes Treble Booster live. If he did, he only used the treble boost component and not the "fuzz". Blackmore had a special vibrato bar built for his Strats as he kept breaking the stock ones. The longer and "stiffer" bar allows for the insane "whoops" in his phrasing. I personally have a custom bar for one of my Strats and it allows for this type of craziness. Also remember that the bridge was set to "float" which allows for much more control and tuning stability that just using a semi-locked bridge set for country twang. Remember that there was no locking Floyd Rose or Spurzell system back then either. That's why you hear Purple tune up to a G chord at the start of most tunes. Specifically, the G string will "flop" on these guitars. Hope that helped.
@@hugedoof Whoa! Ask and thou shall receive. :) Thank you for such a detailed response @hugedoof! Admittedly I have virtually no idea what you are describing BUT, I find it fascinating how art converges with the sciences of mechanical engineering, electromagnetism and analog sound to create great music in the hands of a skilled musician. Good Stuff and thanks again!
@@jpgiuliotti One does not have to play at an insane volume to get these tones. RB also rarely uses "power chords". You'll note that he uses singles notes during vocal passages and lets the organ carry the chordal harmonies. Admittedly, DP was painfully loud live. Marshall Amplification is magnificent for a variety of generated tones whether you use a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul (or whatever). I played live for 45 years. I carried a Marshall JCM 800 which is 50 watts RMS out in tandem with a Fender Princeton. Great amplifiers for clubs, shattering windows, crushing the audience and so forth. Blackmore was using SIX Marshall Majors live. That's 200 watts RMS per amplifier. Albeit, he was only using one stack at a time. Many of the modern hard rock bands use dummy cabinets and amp heads for visual drama more than anything. Most persons think that RB was using Marshall Majors in the the studio. That's not accurate. He typically used a VOX AC30 with the treble booster pedal in between the guitar and amp during the Machine Head era. Hope some of this helped. www.treblebooster.net/products/medium-gain-booster/hs-s-treble-booster
@@hugedoof Thanks again. You should copy and paste your two, comprehensive, educational posts into the 1st level of comments so that more people can see them! I'm sure it would spark a lot of interest and discussion among guitar players on this overall thread. Thanks! :)
Ian plaice fkin god

Die Frage, wer der beste Rockgitarrist ist.....? hat sich damit erledigt!!
Best versión 💜
Classic rock perfection is Deep Purple on this track !!! Also , check out , " Doesn't Matter Where Or When ,"an original rocking song and video on my site . Thanks , Adam Holtz
What an amazing version of this song!
Gillan's voice then was perfect!!!!!!
1:51 Gillan's laugh!!!!! I just love him!!!!! I seed her....!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lucille, по-моему, самая прикольная песня у DP). Здесь Великие, кто во что горазд, оттягиваются по полной! Особенно смешнюче это видеть! Супер! 🤭👍🤣😅🤩💜
Jon Lord and his friends:)
Гении! Обожаю! 👍💜Лорду вечная память... Незаменимый👍🤘
Best ever. Organ intro, perfect.
MK2 at their best. Gillans voice sounds better than on Made In Japan. Jon and Ritchie's solos sound fantastic and Paiceys drumming is top notch. This is how I prefer to think of MK2, not the middle aged version which got back together for £2m a man in 1984.
39 in 1984. But yes.
Up there with made in japan
The beginning like being at church 🤣🤣🤣
The best💜
Пурпурных можно слушать везде всегда и постоянно! Тем более в золотом составе. Царствие небесное Джону Лорду, земля пухом.
