GrowPole 3.1 Large. Acclimatizing imported philodendron billietiae over tea
You've just imported rare aroids, philodendron, monstera and particularly anthurium. What do you do?
Here' we're acclimatizing our neighbor's imports the right way. You want to:
1) Do it as soon as possible,
2) Use good, airy but moisture retaining substrates,
3) Avoid letting the plant dry out for any duration
How do we do that without root rot? Check out our "Over Watering is a Myth" series of videos. Nearly 300k views instagram:

Plant "torture" (for propagation) - no plants were harmed in the making of this video
Просмотров 2507 месяцев назад
We kept some of our rare plants in distressed conditions to induce "runners". These are leafless nodes with long internode lengths that many aroids grow when they're kept in sub optimal levels. This helps them to cover more ground in the wild, find a better tree to climb, where it can access more sunlight in the thick undergrowth conditions of the cloud forests they live in. As growers, this ad...
We (almost) killed our variegated billietiae! - How to save difficult propagations
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Here's a follow up to our propagation video. Sometimes propagations don't go as planned even with experience with the same species. Here's the ultimate technique we have to save propagations that looks like there is almost no hope. It is a technique derived from the understanding of how root rot is not caused by an excess of water, but a shortage of oxygen. By using an air stone and an aquarium...

Small pot small plant? Growing a huge Monstera Albo with THICCLY GrowPole
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Most climbing aroids are epiphytic in nature. The maturation life cycle requires them to climb before they show mature leaf forms in Philodendrons and fenestrations in Monsteras. Here's a video showing the difference in size of 2 monstera albo borsigiana. One grown on a THICCLY Large GrowPole and another growing without support. Secret to Growing Lush Aroids - Ft. Anthurium Veitchii (King Anthurium)
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.Год назад
Growing aroids shouldn't be rocket science. Our methodology to plant care follows a simple principle - Inspired by Nature, Informed by Science. We look into the natural growing habitats of the plants we are trying to care for, and try to replicate the conditions as much as possible. All we require is to know what parameters matter to the plant, so we can focus our approach. In general most plan...
An aroid mix that can end "overwatering"
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
Instinctively when we get a new plant, we buy a bag of soil and repot them - and they die. We think we don't have green thumbs and give it all up. When we toss it out, the soil is soggy and the roots are black and smell rancid. "Damn I've over watered it!" Sounds familiar? We're here to help. In this video we'll show you our aroid mix. One that we've grown hundreds of plants with great success....
THICCLY Propagating Variegated Philodendron Billietiae
Просмотров 25 тыс.Год назад
Propagating such an expensive plant can be really stressful. Good thing I had help from a neighbor. Featuring a truly lush and gigantic variegated philodendron billietiae that we grew from a single leaf. The philodendron billietiae can really reach epic proportions when allowed to climb and in optimal conditions. We're hoping to propagate a few baby plants before trying to get one to climb on t...

    Why is when I do this with fluval they always die of root rot? It's not such a big set up so I'm not using a tank air pump but I see people getting such good results with fluval but not me.

    This is a good idea. This is ideal for those who always experience crown rot due to overhead watering.

    Your brand name is very bad. Looks and sounds like all of the countless bootleg knockoff brands found on Amazon. I have a few of your moss poles and they’re not my favorite either.

    For Phalanopsis are you using small, medium or large? Is there a reason you are not mounting the leaves facing downwards to drain moisture as in nature?

    • @hamtons1990
      @hamtons1990 6 месяцев назад

      We’re using Medium 3.0 here! We recommend Large 3.1 now that it is available. I don’t think all phalanopsis face down. We have mounted it both ways, it still works 👍🏻

    With this setup, do you have to water the plant every day ?

    • @thiccly
      @thiccly 9 месяцев назад

      we don't have to, but we use the misters daily to reduce the variances in condition as we get unpredictable heat waves in Singapore

  • @wandawilson6266

    Question. The long root you got off the first cutting. What did you do with it ? Did you cut it back or right off when you planted it. I have plants that have that long a root . An plan on putting it on a pole. Just dont know what im to do with the long roots.

    • @thiccly
      @thiccly 10 месяцев назад

      Usually we stuff the root into the GrowBag or the GrowPole. The top cut seems to be doing well with its long root. The mid cut however had a very woody root. When we put it into the GrowBag I think it got "crimped" and basically couldn't get nutrients from the stem and the root died. The mid cut itself is alive but no signs of any root growth so far.

    I have some of those. I just cut out the whole front, put some moss and secure it with plastic wrap after setting the plant directly on to the moss so that any size can fit. Those squares are often too small for bigger plants. I am going to purchase acetate and make my own.

      That is a sentiment we had when we first started growing! We'll make a video about our substrate and why we don't get root rot and how to eliminate it in a future video. Our entire collection is grown on that mix. We've had 1 incidence of root rot because we accidentally included some sphagnum moss that the plant was propagated in. Subscribe so you don't miss out!
