Dave Sweet was the original radio voice of the Twisters when they began airing on WAPJ FM in 1997, and he was also involved in marketing the team. Larry Wright was a second original Twister radio announcer, and after a few seasons became exclusively the PA announcer for the remainder of the teams existence. Others who had a considerable amount of air time on Twisters’ radio and internet radio broadcasts during the run of the team include Jim Pashley, Jeremy Pollutro, Jeff Desnoyers, Kevin Stewart, Matt Janik, Luke Hutchinson, and Brian Delach.
The move to Shea Stadium killed his Yankee career.
Remember the Mets let coach yogi berra off to attend the festivities at Yankee Stadium..all guys R.I.P.
Thank you for sharing this. It is really hard to find footage of my dad, Bob Brower, play. To see him basically start this video is neat!
Great to hear from you, and glad you appreciate the video. It's great what we find on some of our VHS tapes, and I figured I'd put them to some use on RUclips.
There is nothing I miss more than the Yankees and Phil Rizzuto, it makes me realize how old I am, but I'd leave it again in a minute
Berra won 10 world series. Tops all time.
Disagree with Jeter at S. Maybe a High B or low A. His defense statistically actually stunk a bit.
not a Yankees fan (Go Giants) but I'm tired of this being the narrative spread around Jeter, yes, under the hood he might not have had the consistency of great defenders, but the one thing Jeter had was defensive clutch, if I need a 643 double play to end game 7 there is no player i'd rather have at short than Jeter.
@@aaronjohnson2340his defense is actually worse than people think. He was not even better than half of the people in the league for at least half his career in the MLB.
Yes, I have read that his defense was below average, and his defensive WAR is very low. I think he had range issues (although did notably dive into the stands a couple times), which doesn't count as errors and allows a player to pass the eye tests of viewers. Jeter once participated in over 100 double plays in a season, but I guess he was very ordinary defensively, which is unusual for a shortstop.
Its too bad he wasn't on the call, for Bucky's homer off Torrez at Fenway; that would have been something, but Bill White did a good job with that
How about that fan, coming out of the stands to congratulate Roger Maris, as he rounded 3rd. Can you imagine a fan trying that today?
Saw Frank play on AAA in Spokane in 60. He played briefly before heading to LA . Got to see him hit a laser shot over centerfield wall and I was standing directly behind backstop. The ball took off like a shot out a bazooka and never dropped as far as I could see
MY FAVORITE 👍🏻😎
Why the dog named Einstein, that was strange. I hope that was accidentally, not intetional. You must respect Albert Einstein as founder of relativity
Great calls! I miss the Scooter
Back in 1999, I actually helped a little old man across the street--a guy, 104 years old, trying to carry packages across 42nd St. in Times Square, NYC. I walked him to his apartment, helped him, etc. Turns out he was an usher at Yankee Stadium during DiMaggio's entire career. He said he had never seen a player like him before or after, who seemed like he got on base every time. To him, there was no one greater.
Interesting story. DiMaggio really was one of the very best - and very seldom struck out. I always wondered who was the worst pitcher who struck out DiMaggio, similarly to who was the worst batter to hit a home run off Sandy Koufax.
Casey Stengel once said “Richardson doesn’t smoke, drink or chase women and he still can’t hit .250”. 😂
...and then Richardson did hit .250, because his career avg ended up being .266, underwhelming compared to a .300 career hitter but better than .250. On an interesting defensive note, Richardson participated in 100 or more double plays in a season six times.
@@torrjpct9492 also bobby won WS MVP with the losing team, hero in sumter lmao
@@torrjpct9492 I know. I saw him play at the old Stadium many times. He was a good defensive player. He and Kubek were a great DP combo.
Thank you ! I still remember that theme song and haven't heard it decades ! Much appreciated. I wish there was a video of this too. I remember them using a lot of "flower power" type day-glo colors for their TV intro when playing that theme that featured Horace Clarke and Jerry Kenny.....because this lineup was being promoted for their basestealing speed instead of a power lineup like the old Yankee's had.
Rickey Henderson. Consummate class act. Great for baseball and a great role model too!
It's a wonder that Bob Sheppard wasn't announcing the Yankee old timers. Of course, they didn't have Yogi Berra there, but I'm sure it was because of his bitterness towards George Steinbrenner for unceremoniously firing him five years earlier and replacing him with Martin.
And Billy Martin would be killed in a car accident on Christmas Day, 1989, passing away at the age of 61.
Never see any like that again
Joe❤5️⃣
Number 25 for the LA Dodgers he was my hero growing up as my baseball hero unfortunately he just passed away about 3 weeks ago a lot of pictures lot of memories God bless them Happy Trails everybody
Holy cannoli! (Phil loved them).
And wishing people a happy birthday - especially during a pop fly.
Is a video available for this
No, not that I know of.
@@torrjpct9492 I attended 20 consecutive old-timer games I was surprised to see Joe DiMaggio introduced second to last because he always was introduced last
@@lindamarsella4743 Yes, DiMaggio was normally introduced last (with the exception of festivities when there was an honored guest). I think the first couple years just after Mantle retired, they may have had Mickey come out last, with him being the most recently retired of the all-time greatest.
7:23 that’s me saluting on the right
Nice to hear from you. That must have been great.
wait a Minute you left out Paradise by the Dashboard Light!!!
“OK, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here. Two down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth. There's the windup and there it is, a line shot up the middle. Look at him go, this boy can really fly! He's rounding first and really turning it on now. He's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for second. “The ball is bobbled out in center. And here comes the throw, and what a throw. He's gonna slide in head-first. Here he comes -- he's out. No, wait, safe, safe at second base! This kid really makes things happen out there. Batter steps up to the plate. Here's the pitch and he's going, and what a jump he's got. He's trying for third. Here's the throw -- it's in the dirt, safe at third. Holy cow, stolen base! “He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost daring them to try and pick him off. The pitcher glances over, winds up and it's bunted. Bunted down the third-base line. The suicide squeeze is on. Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close. Here's the throw, here's the play at the plate. Holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!” www.mlb.com/news/phil-rizzuto-part-in-paradise-by-the-dashboard-light
Ahhh the 80’s
“There’s a real pressure cooker goon’ on out here!”
I hate to say this because I am a huge fan of his; happily Cosell was wrong about the Scooter
Good job mr pollutro!!
OH MAN IS THE SCOOTER MISSED! HE MADE GROWING UP A YANKEE FAN A BETTER EXPERIENCE !
#1 indeed…….!!!!
Quite enduring class and excellence. Never forget that 1962 World Series catch that won it for NY.
TV did not look this bad in the 80s and 90s and vcr's could record better than this yet every video of this era looks like it was filmed on a potato lol.
This wonderful video was made in 1988 by Berl Rotfeld Productions. Rotfeld was born on 3 October 1928 and died on 18 November 2005. Rotfeld also made a great tv series called "Greatest Sports Legends" which are available on RUclips.
I've never heard Bill White's call! Thank you so much!
I was blessed to grow up a Yankee fan and hear Phil Rizzuto on channel 11. He was awesome.
I'll love my NY Yankees always, but that year was not good
Top notch public domain music
I was never a fan of Billy Martin because of his reputation for being a hothead, but even I have to admit he didn't deserve to die the way he did.
Need to put all his calls,...and chatter into some computer sodtware and have AI recreate him for today's games.
...or for a video game. The person playing can select which all-time announcer(s) they want, and the play-by-play would sound like that voice.
@@torrjpct9492 great idea!
DiMaggio 56 game hitting streak
Billy Martin was a drunk!!!
A few days ago I was listening to a RUclips video of a Yankee game from 1987 and Martin was a color commentator on WPIX with Phil Rizzuto and Bill White. It's amazing how mild mannered and nice he seemed in contrast to all the arguments he had with umpires and fights with players and other people. Martin was known to be nice to the fans. I think it's possible that some players who he didn't like were ones that would refuse to sign autographs, etc, for example. That was the nice side that Martin had.
Thanks for this video. A Mickey Mantle fan from 1956⚾️
Mantle had the longest ovation that day. DiMaggio had his name drowned out by his ovation, but Mantle's was almost as loud and was lengthier.
The Yankees need to retire #31 for Dave Winfield. It’s long overdue. Long overdue.
I'd have to disagree on that one, but he's certainly a hall of fame player for his entire career.
@@torrjpct9492 Why doesn’t his number need to be retired? I disagree with you.
@@narobiejenkins8107 When I consider the numerous notable Yankees who are not in Monument Park with even a plaque, never mind both a plaque and retired number, I don't think Winfield should be either. He was very good with the Yankees, but played on teams that did not appear in the post-season. He didn't play his entire career with the Yankees, and has no post-season exploits. The hall of fame takes into account his entire career, and that honor is well-deserved. As it stands now, I don't think there are any other numbers that should be retired by the Yankees until a new generation of candidates one day come up. I think there could still be a few candidates for plaques in Monument Park.
@@narobiejenkins8107 They already have too many numbers retired. Why not retire Johnny Mize or Enos Slaughter or Catfish Hunter's numbers? All great players who played for the Yankees.
I've been searching for this thame for a long time. Does anyone know where i could find the opening video to this thame music from the Horace Clark yankees . Thank you
Year after the Janet Jackson nipple incident

I’ve been transported to my parents basement playing with my baseball cards watching this over and over all summer long … thx for posting

Mantle looked like he was starting to trot but said forget it ("Thanks, Joe").
