What does the dross ball do?
When you are melting the cans it burns all the paint and coating on the cans. This all floats around in the crucible, as you add more cans to melt down the dross gets stuck in the mixture. The salt dross ball reacts with the dross and turns it into a power and that floats to the top making it easier to remove before you pour.
Nice can crusher. 👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦
Yeah and it was free!
Awesome dude! The Han Solo pour is lit!! 🔥🔥🛠️👍
@@MetalMan90 Thanks!
Starters, Alternators, AC compressors and some motors may actually be worth more to your local scrapyard than their scrap metal value meaning you'll get less money if you take them apart. That's because these items may be shipped to India, Turkey or Mexico to be rebuilt and resold as refurbished units. It's always worth doing the math and calculating your value before and after. I know with certain types of wire I get paid more for them sheathed than I would if I stripped them.
That is very true if i sold the parts to a scrap dealer. Pretty much all i do is scrap items that have copper and alloys. then i normally melt them down to ingots or other interesting things and sell them online. I can up to eight times the scrap value when they are ingots or if i make a nice coin out of them.
@@Coppercasting I've thought about that but I would only do it with bare bright wire. I've seen a lot of people stamp their ingots 99.9% copper but if they're not made from bare bright they're not pure.
@@newsweathertraffic18 Over here in NZ all copper water pipes and all electrical cables are 99.9% pure copper.
wow all your tools are garbage arent they
And you think i care why?
Was the pot not hot enough before you poured ? I’m a newbie
The problem with the first attempt was the pouring basin (cup) was too small and the sprue was not wide enough for the copper to flow. The second attempt came out 50% I think because the coins were different thicknesses and liquid always flows through the path of less resistance so it went to the thicker coins first then by the time that had filled up the cavity of the thicker coins it cooled to a solid state. Thanks for watching!
You had a little over 2 1/2 lbs of copper, or 2.5…the taller like in between each LB is your half mark, .5..the smaller ones to the sides of it are 1/4 and 3/4..so your copper was between 2.5 and 2.75 lbs. I’m not great at explaining these things but I hope that makes some sense lol. Had been wondering how to do these 🙃.
What put me off is the scales have a number 8 right on the half way mark. With metric that would be a 5..so should i be saying 2 pound 8 ounces? I take it there is 16 to a pound.
A good tip for motors and transformers, if you have a machete you can align it with the sheets of steel and hammer it in between to split it in half.
Yes a couple of people have said that on my other videos. Might look into it next time and see how it goes. Thanks for watching.
@@Coppercasting you're welcome, I enjoyed watching it, you'll probably like that method a lot
3:30 CAT!!! 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈❤️
Hi there Good job have good day. See you next time.
Illegal on so many levels.
It is only illegal here in New Zealand to damage or destroy bank notes. This is a 5c coin which was taken out of circulation in 1990. and i made a coin 300% bigger than the original from the US. ..so illegal on how many levels?
That is a neat coin. 👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍
I have never seen casting sand down this way. New sub to you🤔🤔 I was told to use cutting oil from a threading area.👍👍 Your system seems to work well with water. Been using Petrobond that is a oil base, but smokes really bad. Nice pours.😎😎⛏⛏🔥🔥
90% sand 10% clay and just enough water to hold it all together without sticking to your hand. cheap easy and very good results. Plus no annoying flames or making vents to vent the gas
Four Perfect Pours!!! 👍😁👍😁👍😁👍😁👍😁
Good video,2.5 pounds copper lot more than I thought would be in there, interesting way to split that armature as well, you’ve earned a new sub
Thanks and welcome to me channel
♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰♻️💰
Once you cut off the copper crown, hold the stator in the vice with the cut end facing up the way. Then go round each cut with a screwdriver and tap the copper through the bottom. So much easier
Meat cleaver, axe, machete all work really well for splitting stators in half. Then it's easy to wedge out the copper
Why do you think that there is no zinc in your new mystery alloy? There most likely is zinc in there along with lead but there you are with no respirator. Not smart dude. Not smart at all.
Well its not a mystery alloy, it is silver plated cupronickel, (copper and nickel) zinc and lead are soft, why would you put soft metals in forks that are poison which you put in your mouth?
@@Coppercasting Because they are naturally found with copper and nickel. You’re ignorant if you think the manufacturer spent money to separate the metals to get all the other base metals out of their alloy! You’re extremely ignorant if you think you were not breathing in toxic fumes!
@@THR33STEP looks like im just an ignorant person all around then. Thanks for you comment and thanks for watching:)
you learn as you go
You sure do. I could have just edited my mistakes out but then no one would be learning. At least we know how not to do it lol
I used empity beans or similar for crucibile They last only a few use End havent used a leaf blower
Yeah the bean cans do not last very long. That cup is made from stainless steel so it should last a bit longer than a bean can
2:05Yea!!! No one will notice. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The cat did it :)
Meat cleaver thru middle of armature is best way.
Yeah i have seen it done like that before but i do not have one of those so i just make do with what i have
Stator not the armature. The armature has a steel rod running through it.
@@ScrappingScotland You are probably right, but an Armature can be moving or not moving. An armature carries AC electric current in windings.
@DavidGS66 the armature revolves mate and it's held within the stator. Yes it also can contain copper windings. He was trying to remove the copper from the stator though, not the armature
👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦
Great content you will find easy ways to pull these apart i do them a lot and have my way it ususally takes me 20 minutes, good stuff mate from australia.
Yeah you soon learn how not to do things lol Cheers mate.

Good Melt. 👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦
👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦👍🎦
I thought your cordless grinder worked great and the cutting shear was interesting.
The grinder is good but it wastes 1.5mm of materials each cut due to the thickness of the cutting wheel. So you can easily end up wasting a lot of copper. The cutting shear is super-fast and no wastage of materials and it was fairly cheap to buy.
@@Coppercastingstop buying the 1.6mm cutting discs- get the 1mm ones. I use them in my 4 and 5 inch grinders scrapping and fabricating, any time cutting copper I do it where I can sweep up the copper dust- have a half kilo so far after 3 years.

Make more money cleaning it up pretty and keeping it whole would tech a pretty penny ,,or make a still lol.
These things are a dime a dozen over here. Plus i already have a nice copper still :)
I've had a few here in the US not often but a few, there all pretty much gone now.
Here in the USA at least of all the places that I know of they don't use copper tanks for hot water heaters. All the one's I have ever scrapped have a galvanized steel tank. Would be nice to find any here that are made with copper tanks.
I didnt know that. I thought it was normal for all low pressure systems to be made of copper. Only our high pressure or "mains" pressure tanks are made of steel over here.

pesky gravity and things needing to be level!
Yeah, I did level it off but not enough. Next time i will put a top on the mold and that will take care of that problem. Having the open cast i can see whats going on so im pretty sure it will flow good with a top on next time
Did you that out of and compressor like a fridge or A/C
Hey mate. I just stripped one of these my neighbour put on the verge. Well worth scrapping these. Mine also had twin coils of copper like your's but it was incased in a black resin block which called for the hammer. It took some beating and did the trick i was almost going to chuck it in the copper motor bin
Yeah mate they are well worth it.
Big like number 11 and subscribed! Thanks for sharing!
