We also glued the backside of the mounting brackets to the transom to further prevent water intrusion anywhere near the new mounting holes. We haven’t had one issue to date and no signs of water intrusion. I recommend doing everything yourself. Even motor maintenance. Everything is a scam these days and we can learn anything on RUclips! I’m curious how far offshore you’re comfortable taking this. I am thinking about one of these setups (maybe the larger sizes) for camping and spearfishing at the Channel Islands, launching from Oxnard. Anacapa is about 11 miles offshore, then just hopping from island to island.

    • @Gallivanting55
      @Gallivanting55 2 месяца назад

      100% go for it. I would be comfortable taking this to the backside of Catalina, which we plan on doing in the next month or two. Obviously, we will always abide by and recommend having a waterproof VHF radio, flares, fire extinguisher, and at least 25 miles in spare fuel. Aside from the inflatable being punctured by a great white, that should remove a lot of the risk. The boat itself is extremely capable and confidence inspiring. Even in very rough conditions, crawling through heavy ocean conditions and 15-20mph winds at 5 to 8 mph is more than reasonable. It might take a little bit longer to reach a destination at that speed, but safety is always a priority when going offshore. In other words, treat this as you would any other 35 foot single motor fishing boat and you’ll be fine. A little prayer wouldn’t hurt either. 🙏🏻😝

      @donaldmartin4620 its not a good idea to have pressure relief valve open while in ocean. I ordered cap and i cap mine, i have sd385. Ive tested mine during hot day, first experience was bad, limp boat, cant plane after few ppl got in there on hot day, (because it was expeling air, plus some sellers like saturn rafts, place their valves way below recommended pressures, worsening whole experience of riding all together) Then i bought cap and capped it, i only inflated to 3.0 psi on main 3 chambers (recommended 3.6) and guess what, after being on water for 5-6 hrs, I decided to open cap from pressure relief valve, and immediately, ton of air started expeling, making main chambers half limp. So i inflate below recommended which is 3.0 (enough to make boat firm) and cap the pressure relief valve. Only good idea to open during storage.

      The motor is 98lbs. It can be done alone as long as the trunk you’re using doesn’t require you to ‘lift’ the motor up and over anything. It’s best if you can slide it to the edge and essentially guide it to the transom. My wife is there for only if/when I drop it on my foot. @Gallivanting55 6 месяцев назад

      So far, the seams on the Saturn are holding up wonderfully. I’m not sure what technology Bris uses for their welding process, but I know Saturn boats use technology on par with market competitors. Wife and I have been out in 3 to 4 foot seas with two passengers. If anything, the Saturn handled the swells better with added weight. Keep the weight inside the boat evenly distributed and avoid wearing shoes and or bringing sharp metallic objects on board without proper storage. We are going on four years of ownership, and as long as you wipe it down and get the salt off after every adventure, and store it nicely in a cool, dry place out of the sun, you will likely upgrade long before the seams have issues.

      Transom is good. No signs of delamination or any issues after mounting the wheel brackets. There is a hard plastic pad protecting the part of the transom where you melt the motor. That plastic does get beat up overtime simply from mounting and un, mounting, not from where and tear while on the water. That part is replaceable, but it will be a pain in the rear end to takeoff.

    Want to make your wife a lot more comfortable? Take out the front bench seat and put a small vinyl bean bag chair on the deck. My wife loves hers.

    Cool! Thinking of getting Saturn FB385 for fishing.

      Get it!!! They are all very capable boats and the best bang for the buck on the water, anywhere. We bought a 2m rubber mat to cover the inflatable floor and some for the top of the sides for fishing, to avoid a hook or spine puncture.

    Nice boat and good motor. I have 2,5 HP and 3.0 Talamex rubber boat. Here lakes are now frozen...waiting for spring.
