    You're on the right track with critical thinking, setting up a test, quantifying, and evaluating the results and validity. This isn't a super clean battery of test points, but you're on the right path. The fact that you designed and built your own test article, as well as designed your own test, is great. You're on the path to being a designer or test engineer.

    Aerodynamics of rc bodies is massively critical. High speed is where aero becomes critical. That body you built will give massive dowforce in a straight line, but will actually fight against steering. Instead of allowing the car to turn it will try to keep it straight. I use 3 different bodies on my drag car, depending on track conditions. As for 1/10 on the road, i run a pile of different bodies for different classes, rules, and conditions. At low speed where your tamiya is, weight balancing will go further than aero will get you. Those old chassis are rear heavy and need weight moved to the front to counter their natural under steer. Driving techniques do a lot to improve cornering, knowing how your car is going to behave when diving into a turn goes further than any amount of tuning can ever do. To compensate for my buggy being 10 years older than my competitors, I yeet it tight into corners and spin the back wheels for rotation. Don't feel discouraged by anyone or anything, what you're doing is what designers and engineers have been doing for thousands of years. You're taking the first steps into a complex field with a good base of understanding. Take time to understand every aspect of a car and you will succeed in your endeavors. That is a great chassis to learn on, it is very similar to modern TT chassis and probably still has massive aftermarket. Draw center lines between the width and length of the wheel base. The point that they intersect should be the center of mass of the car, try to balance at least the front and rear, left and right can come later. Complete car, battery and body installed. Balancing your car will unlock its full potential.

    Really interesting topic. I would love to see further research. Following comment is university level critique, so please don't take this as any form of bashing, but in hope that you would find something interesting and new. forget about my comment if you didn't: One of two thing I think you could improve on is your understanding of statistics. Your figure at 2:55 shows correlation between number of trials and the lap time. This would be useful if you wanted to show the effect of running different numbers of trials (like showing performance degradation over time), but I don't think that was your intention. In this case you should treat your number of trial as sample size, and show average and standard deviation of your lap time. This would give you idea of the expected lap time you would get by running in different configuration, and uncertainty in the lap time. In this case I suspect that you would get result that show the uncertainty of the result is way too large to say anything definitive. This uncertainty would lead to second point: The designing of your experiment. Hand controlling the car would introduce too much uncontrollable variable, hence large variance, in your result. Better experiment would be to split things up to make things more reproducible. For example you could split your course into timing straight lines with full throttle and no steering, and circular course with fixed amount of RC input.

    Did you match the speed of your simulation to the speed of the car while turning? It seemed that the car made a slow sharp turn where aero doesn’t affect as much in lower speeds. Possibly if your car was faster and had a turn with larger radius the affect may great enough for aero to be a benefit. Also I’m not sure how powerful your rc car is but if the car isn’t powerful enough to make the car have over or understeer in the turns normally then the aero upgrade would essentially be useless. Hope this helps

      Thank you for your comment, the corner is a very tight corner but from the data, it showed that it make the car a little faster so i think it has some effect, but i agree that a larger radius corner will make a larger effect of the downforce. The RC car is powerful enough to make understeer so that is why the test without downforce when very wide around the corner.

    a factor that could have affected the result is weight and -distribution. also an idea how todo the bend is to start with a cylinder. an pet bottle for example :-)

      thank you very much for your feed back! Actually i did not think about considering the weight and distribution of the car. (But i the Rc car body i made is really light so i think it does not make a lot of difference in performance) I think using plastic bottles is very good! i really struggled bending the material.😅

      i used the motor as a degree sensor, and if it reaches a certain degree it will stop. I hope this helps
