Why is it called Brickfields? Kuala Lumpur, Temples, Malaysia, Walk n Talk, Life Over 60, 64
I explore Brickfields and the unfamiliar parts that are off the main road. I have a look at Sri Kandaswamy, Karpaga Vinayagar, Kuli Sri Krishna, Kuli Veera Hanuman, walk around Scott Road, Jalan Berhala, Jalan Rosario, the town centre, Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad. I like old buildings and architecture, both old and new. I see some awesome recent and not so recent designs. I drink Masala Tea. Is it good?

The name Brickfields has its origins in the active brick-making industry which was established in this area in the 1870s. Kapitan Cina Yap Ah Loy had established a brick kiln to make bricks and tiles for export to Singapore. His Brickfields is believed to have been on the site where KL Sentral is today.

Fascinating video. Revisiting your old school and all your old haunts must bring back some bitter-sweet memories. I cracked up at your anecdote about coming across the Indian man taking a pee - we share a similar sense of humor! I'd really appreciate it if you did as it's something I've been considering doing but haven't yet plucked up the courage to attempt. I'm not sure if they're still around but a long time ago, probably 20+ years ago, there used to be a couple of old bars in the shop lot across the street from the MBPJ Civic Hall. These were the old Chinese uncle type of bars. And on certain nights, they had 'sexy' shows which turned out to be .... Hey, thanks. Yea, I know the one I want; The Godox XT1. Only thing with the GoPro is that I will need to buy an adapter for the mic, and when I attach that to the GoPro, it will also mean I won't be able to use my power bank with it, and the GoPro batteries suck! Haha! So my option is to get a new iPhone with image stabilisation..... but that has to wait.

3:09 that building used to be Mahkamah Perusahaan which means Industrial Courts where cases related to trade disputes, employee relations cases etc are being held..all the buildings around that area used to house different courts before the new court complex completed in Jalan Duta Complex and Putrajaya Palace of Justice The court complex was located next to Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad which was the government complex back in those days before Selangor State offices moved to the new state capital, Shah Alam & Federal offices moved to Putrajaya.

OMG! Taman Tun Dr Ismail! ( TTDI ) ... Have not been there for more than 10 years or more ... Many changes especially now they have the convenience of the MRT & LRT Lines around ... Brought back many old memories of old KL ... Thank You So Much for these walking down the old memory lane nostalgic videos to update to the many Malaysians who are currently working or staying aboard! Can do a brief introduction of yourself before & after coming back to KL from working & staying aboard as we can updates each other of what we know or missed about our old KL! As we aged , we appreciate much more of the old friends or environments we once knew , as many have passed on or changes over the decades ... Grateful & comforting to be abled to share these old experiences with those few remaining senior Malaysians or Residents that we are lucky enough to be communicating via RUclips!

Hi @stargazeronesixseven, you are most welcome. I left Malaysia in 1980 and returned in 2011. Was away again in 2021 and was back again May last year. I'm glad for the train system as I am able to travel easily and cheaply. Thanks for your feedback and if there are any other places you want to see, let me know. Cheers and all the best! 🙂

So, I had to look at the map to pinpoint the area. Yeah, this was still developing back in the day. I remember it as the back way between PJ and Bangsar. The brutalist architecture of the modern wet market was interesting. Reminds me.... gotta make some pan mee soon. The cultural fusion resturants both kinda cracks me up and intrigues me. Another good video, my friend. Cheers and adventure on!

Jeez... This is nostalgic. I grew up around there, just over the main road/highway in Damansara Utama. But it's been around 15 years since I last been back there. Kinda strange as it has changed a lot but somehow still the same. I knew exactly where you were at any point of your video. 😄

@@lifeover64 Yupp... A lot more restaurants and clinics now. The market has always been there as far as I can remember (much nicer now, though), That Republik TTDI opposite McDonald's used to be a cinema called Ria Cinema. It closed down and became a mall called Jaya Jusco. And that also shut down in the 90's and I guess it's now called Republik TTDI. Basically, from the market to the shop lots around that Republik TTDI is the original TTDI town center. The rest I guess grew like mushrooms when the TTDI train station opened. When I left, they were still constructing the rail line. Spent a lot of nights around TTDI town center and neighboring Damansara Uptown smoking pot and playing arcade games at shop lot game centers (which were probably not completely legal as they also had gambling machines). And those night outs usually ended with a visit to the mamak for munchies. 😁

@@rahimmajid647 Interesting! Was the cinema built in the 70's? I wonder how long the Arab restaurant's been there... Yes, it's very accessible by the train line and I was surprised how busy it was. And as with the young lady I spoke to on the way into the market, she wasn't local but came in especially to buy from this market as the quality was better... Haha... nice to see that you had a good time in your younger days here.... Thanks for the info and good to hear about your adventures! Cheers! 🙂

Did your gimbal come in? This video is particularly well shot and edited. Yeah, the old colonial buildings are beautiful. Nice to see they are being care for and used. Though they are colonial... they still are a part of our heritage. Great that they kept the old loop road around the lake... and nice to see the bamboo grove island (17:50) is still there. My Uncle Johnny used to drive the train between Singapore and KL. 21:08... when I was 5 or 6 he once took me into the engine... it was both exciting and scary because it always felt like something was about to explode. My aunt lived on the hill behind the Museum... close to where the Planetarium is... spent a lot of Sundays there as it was my grandmother's HQ. Her house kinda looked like the building at 24:16. Yeah, the national monument was designed by the same guy who designed the Iwo Jima memorial in Washington DC. Really nice video, my friend! Cheers and adventure on!

Hey! Thanks very much, matey! No gimbal, I just slowed down my panning and was conscious about shooting B roll too... hahaha... Also using visual clues and timing when editing.... Yes, I am so surprised at how many old buildings are still intact in KL. I guess I took them for granted in the past. Wow! I didn't know you had so much family in KL... Your childhood must've been so exciting! Nice, yes, the National Monument is a very powerful piece.... Alway appreciate your feedback and insights! Cheers!

@@lifeover64 Slowing down the panning totally works! B roll is always a good idea. Also, sometimes when you get hard shadows you can raise the lower mid-range with the color wheels in the color correction tab in Resolve to soften it a bit. Cheers you're definitely onto something.

🙏 After refreshing some of our rusty memories of the 1970s & 1980s Kuala Lumpur , we all realised that , many of our Primary & Secondary Schools' Principals , Teachers , fellow Classmates & Schoolmates already left these world & this life over the decades due to Ageing , Sickness , Accidents & Deaths ... Many Grandparents , Parents , Uncles , Aunties , Siblings , Neighbours , Colleagues & Customers have left us too over the years & decades & for those comtemporaries that borned in the 1950s & 1960s , we're in our 60s now ... OMG! How time changes everything & now we know why the seniors treasured their good old mates more because of the time & era they used to live & enjoy & shared are fast disappearing day by day ... These reflecting back meditations are good to come to terms for the happenings that we have successfully endured & survived to teach the current generations & future generations on how to behaved & conduct ourselves better in these Precious but fleeting & temporal human life we are given , as being borned as Animals , Ghostly & Hellish Realms are hard to open & study Holy Good Teachings that Fast-Tract to Higher Realms of Bliss! Lesson learn are to Apologize for our mistakes , Repent , be Thankful for the Helps & Supports & Opportunities Given in this life & to Forgive Others & to ourselves as we all did not possessed enough Good Merits , Wisdom & Emotional Maturity to Think & to Do the Right Thing in our Past! Now we realised that , being scolded or reminded were Good Cleansing for our Souls but we must not scold back but instead wiser to Apologize for our mistakes , be Thankful for the Reminders & to Forgive Others & to Ourselves as life is a learning & cleasing experience for our Souls. Letting go of being a Punisher but instead be a Guide to Others & to Ourselves to be a Better Person & Citizen in our own Respective Countries & to Follow & Practice the True Universal Laws of Cause & Effect of Mother Nature that govern All Birth , Ageing , Sickness & Death in due Time & Space & Finding the Correct , True Good Angels , Good Gods , Goddesses & Enlightened Beings as Our Spiritual Guides to reduced our sins & to accumulate enough Good Merits & Wisdom & Forgiveness to Cleanse & Propel Our Consciousness into Higher Heavenly Realms of No Birth , No Ageing , No Sickness & No Death & blessed with Better Capabilities to Help our Loved Ones & the Deserving Ones in more Skilful ways in due Time & Space ... We all should be Grateful & Be Thankful for having the internet & smartphones to learn & to communicate to many lives that many of our older generations lack ... Or maybe many of the New Generations now are Old Souls that being given another chance to make it right in this life as a fortunate human beings to contribute to the Betterment of our human race & the environment & flora & fauna & for All! Thank You So Much for the opportunity to Learn & to share in this precious juncture of Time & Space! 🙏🕯🌷🌿🍎🍊🌏✌🕊
