Michael vs Colin, LS 2024/10/17
Colin has been doing mostly S&B for months. Now to see him suffer from being rusty with a longsword! Bwahaha!!!
And on the right we have our noobie Michael with swirly-eyed mask. Good taste 👌🏻

Noble vs Bandit Shenanigans 2024/10/17
Просмотров 1357 часов назад
Addison devised a fun little game with a sabre and a dagger. 1) The noble gets to have a sabre on the hip. 2) The bandit gets a dagger. 3) The bandit can attack whenever, but the noble can only react when the dagger is visible. 4) The noble can only react by "unsheathing" the sabre via miming it with hands. 5) The noble wins if the bandit is slain by the sabre first, and the bandit wins if the ...

Today Michele did a longsword-centered class and we wanted to see what the noobs could do with that knowledge.
Justin vs Michele, Messer & Dagger vs Longsword Shenanigans 2024/10/19

Just some messering around with a dagger! Justin surprisingly got quite far with this unorthodox loadout. Usually offhand daggers are used for thrust-centric swords like rapiers, so having a messer is unusual but not impossible.

Eli vs Colin, S&B 2024/10/12

Free sparring day! Eli is new to using a buckler, and that's ok. Colin wanted to do the same tactic with minor variations to try to give him a chance. Fret not, Eli, we won't let you be discouraged just because you're newer; the fact that you doubled a few times shows that you can land hits at all. Keep at it 💪🏻

Today was a free sparring workshop day! Each of us were to come up with a play, technique, etc. and practice it with a partner via whatever means necessary (i.e. drilling, slow sparring, impromptu training games, etc.). And once the task had been practiced sufficiently, we would then find a different partner and try to execute at least one good iteration of that technique organically in sparrin...

Tony vs Other Justin, S&B 2024/10/10

Welcome back to our resident BJJ instructor Tony! And other Justin, hehe. It's wonderful that our S&B revolution is going smoothly. Tony has been doing S&B for at least a year, and has only gotten better. And the noobs in our class are naturals with one-handed swords, so teaching them how to combine with a shield is gonna be very fun in the future...

Messer-ing around! We now have club messers to loan around, as well as arming swords. The main difference between them is that our messers have shorter blades and are meant to be single-edged, while our arming swords have longer blades and are meant to be double-edged. When combining either type of sword with a buckler, the techniques will generally look the same, but messer cuts with the spine...

Last fight of the day! As we get more exhausted in our fights, the more we can learn how to take advantage of our opponent's exhaustion. Sometimes people have so much brain fog that they become more predictable as they tire out. Sometimes their instincts kick in better for last-minute maneuvers. Or maybe they fall for feints less often... or more, lol. At least their footwork isn't too shabby.

Huzzah! We finally have new loaner messers and arming swords for the club! Now to start the S&B revolution... Oh, and great job with the footwork, guys! Way to be less linear!

spear not glaive
@@MastaBaitaAmbatukam Nope, it's a glaive. It's a discontinued synthetic model from Black Armoury. The video quality just makes it hard to tell.
@@hemalexington2206 There is no definition of spear that wouldn't include the design shown in the video
Hey algorithm, recommend this!
1:11 amazes me how 2 guys can wave swords around and completely miss each other!
What sources do y'all teach from? I'm unfamiliar with some of those guards.
We generally teach Meyer when it comes to longsword. Some of the unfamiliar guards are from their inexperience, and that's ok for now. They're still practicing.
@@hemalexington2206 That makes sense, thank you for taking the time to respond!!!
I need to 1. Improve my alignment, and (b) stop punching at thrusts
That Sigi Pro (Cris, in the purple) was nice. He let me borrow it later.
DISCLAIMER: we are not actually "giving" swords away, but "Hey ladies, come borrow a sword for a while day" just didn't have the same ring.
There were some really good exchanges there. What was your biggest take-away from trying to maintain the wall of steel?
@@ericpaisley8501 Thanks! The biggest takeaways of the wall of steel principle: distance management and drawing the cuts. Drawing a cut works best with a curved sword, and it allows the sword to maintain momentum for faster reaction times (for defense) and faster follow-up attacks (offense). Think about how if you pulled your sword back, you lose momentum because you gotta decelerate it so it stops where it is being blocked, then accelerate it backwards, then decelerate so it's in a prime position to strike again, and then accelerate it again in a different angle to hopefully hit your opponent where they are open. It's so much stuff to do in a split second, that the "wall of steel" starts to make more sense to cut down the number of actions and smooth it out for a few fluid & quick motions.
@@ericpaisley8501 For distance, I was taught that the shamshir naturally completes a draw cut better if I hit where the blade just starts to curve (around the lower third point). You see, the blade is actually straight around the hilt and then gradually starts curving. And in order to achieve this, I gotta be close enough to the opponent. Too far, and I can just barely hit them with the tip of the blade. I haven't yet learned the rest of the nuances, but more training/sparring videos will be posted as I go :D
A good start gentlemen! I'd recommend using a guard prior to engaging -- you'll have a lot fewer doubles.
Go Michele, go!
Grrrrrrrr! Grrrr!
Gripping title!
Thanks! We tried the bare minimum!
Prince Harry's come down in the world...
Sorry I missed it. Not often Eric vonStroheim comes up in conversation.
Fight,stop,fight,stop. Where the action at?
It's a dance-off, MF!
I got excited when he started doing that like, "Oh that is my game you wanna play my game? It's on" lol. Sudden death is so fun so much tension for that last point! I'll get him next time. :)
Another dancing squire! You just bring joy and rhythm everwhere!
Who's your dancing squire? 💃
lol this guy was a real challenge for me so ya know I had to bring the footwork! 😜

Hey algorithm, pay attention!
Amazing outfit!
I didn't know capoeira is used in sword fighting.
Not usually. I'm just a goofball who likes to sneak in moves from other disciplines. :P
Man I was sloppy with my hands. 🙃
Really sorry I couldn't be there 😖
We missed you too! ❤
Looks like fun! Sorry I missed it. 😖

Awesome. Great video says someone totally NOT affiliated with HEMA Lex in any way.😉
lol
Firstly, the color coordination from both Colin and Bill' gear is fantastic. Secondly, Colin's shamshir movements were very clean and precise.
Wow, great video full of exciting content!
It's a shamshir, Michele.
A shamshir is a type of sword and he's holding a buckler... sword and buckler... There's a max character limit for titles. :P
Sorry I missed it.
I like blue's harlequin outfit
Nice commentary!

See's comment and is compelled to watch again to remember what I said XD

Congrats on getting Prince Harry to judge!
