The First Noel 2019
A little version of The First Noel for Christmas, 2019. Played on a 2019 Larrivee OM-03. This is based off Doug Young's masterful arrangment on "A DADGAD Christmas."

Hector the Hero on an Eastman E1OM

A bit of the Scottish tune “Hector the Hero” played on my Eastman E1OM. With a guest appearance by my son
What do you think of the eastman e1om?
I enjoyed it when played with fingers, but as it was my only guitar at the time, it was a little brash for playing with a pick. Incredible value for the money. Honestly, if I had to to it over I'd get the E2OM with the cedar top. I had the E2D for a while and it was incredible. I don't like the rosette, but if you can get past that, the cedar tones down the harshness and makes a very versatile guitar.
Great demo. I've read through the comments too and see that you moved it on. I'm primarily a fingerstyle guy that bought a cheap Taylor Academy and I'm sort of happy with it (but what did I expect from a $600 guitar?). Anyway, I have I think the opposite problem, the Taylor is actually great sounding strummed. Modern, full bodied and loud for a GC size. However, it lacks a bit of complexity for fingerstyle and I'm looking for something that wouldn't break the bank that is all solid. I love the specs on this instrument; woods used, nut width, scale, no horrendous pickup that I don't want to pay for if I don't want to (talking to you Taylor), and a nice gig bag. I think this guitar would be a great all-solid option for a finger picker and light strummer- Would you agree?
Thanks for watching. I enjoyed it for fingerstyle, for sure. If I was looking, I’d take a hard look at the E2OM as well. Same specs but with a cedar top. I have the dread version and it’s a super responsive guitar. Best of luck!
@@treenewt8288 Hey thanks for the tip treenewt! I have looked at the E2OM before but haven't played either the E1 or E2. There is also a newer E1OM "special" model that has a full scale and quilted sapele b/s and True Tone gloss. That longer scale length might help with the strumming issue you experienced with the E1. I'm definitely not a dread guy, so I'm seriously considering the E2OM (but not wild about that rosette if I'm being honest). Just goes to show that, like many, II buy with my eyes. I probably shouldn't be that way. I hear "if you can't stand the way it looks, you will never play it blah, blah....". But what about when you pick it up? Yeah, that is when the real magic happens. Tone and specs are always more important to me. Might just fall in love. 😍
Id buy the e1om in all honesty for me i stupidly sold mine and replaced it with a e1d which didn't last that long. Ive also had the e10d which i didnt rate ive now got a gibson southern jumbo and im currently tryna track down the chap i sold my e1om to. That surely is one the got away and id have back in a heartbeat @@smandez2023
Nice playing!! What piece are you playing? Sounded beautiful!
Thanks for the kind words! The tune is "Hector the Hero"
@@treenewt8288 thank you! I will check it out. 👍
Beautiful playing, so soft, so good. Bravo: well done. Like 8
Very nicely done...
Thanks Bob!
It's funny. I was looking up info on this guitar, came across your thread in the Anal Acoustic Guitar Forum, with you gushing and gushing about it, yet it's no longer in your signature. We live in a disposable society.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The E1 was a very good guitar at its price point, but I was fortunate enough to find a deal on a Larrivee OM which suited my overall style and needs better. The Larrivee is better as an all-around guitar, handling fingerstyle and strumming better than the E1. Disposable? It was sold for what I paid for it and used to fund a superior instrument for my needs (which has been in my signature ever since). I don’t view that any different than trading a car or any other tool. But to each his own I guess
@@treenewt8288 do you gush over hammers?
Hector and Son. Very nice thumb.
Very nice! Does your guitar have neckdive? Got mine yesterday and it really has strong neckdive :-( apart from that it is awesome
Andre, not sure what you mean by neck dive, so I can’t speak to that. I’ve since sold this Eastman, but the neck was great while I had it. No issues! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with yours! I assume this isn’t something that can be adjusted with a truss rod tweak?
How are you getting on with it now matey ive just bought one myself cracking guitar for so little money
I passed this one onto another player a while back. I liked it great for fingerstyle pieces, but it was a little brash when strummed. Replaced it with a Larrivee OM-03 that is the cats pajamas for me: does everything I ask it well.
#Treenewt I'm about to upgrade my old guitar into the E1OM but where I'm from we don't have it selling at the store, but I found one for a great price second hand from someone who bought it overseas, but it's the spruce top, not cedar top unfortunatly. Would you still recommend it? From the videos I've seen I found the strumming sound to be a little bit too tense and metallic, is it like this even in person or is a well rounded beatiful sound even when strummed? I'm purchasing it from the internet, the guy selling it is very nice and it's all very legit, just wondering about that strumming sound, it does sound great with fingert style tho. Thanks a lot!!!
Mine was the spruce top as well. Strumming was definitely strident on it...it could be managed a bit by pic control and power, but it was brash. Great little finger picker though!
That's good you looks very happy with it.
Sounds amazing! What strings and picks are you using?
Hey thanks for the kind words! If I remember correctly, I had Daddario Nickel Bronze mediums on her, and I use a medium National thumbpick. Cheers!
A lovely performance.
Thanks for the kind words!
Lovely guitar and playing
Hello, I wish you only good people in your life and your marriage always together, are hard times to honest men. that guitar it has good construction?no buzzies? thanks
E10 OM
Nope, this is an E1OM. It’s a Sitka too with sapele back and sides, as opposed to the Adi top and Mahogany back and sides on the E10OM. Kinda confusing.
How much you pay for this guitar?
About $449, if I remember correctly
Dang that was nice. Loved the appearance by your boy! Now I want this guitar to go with my new ac320ce. I was looking for an OM but never found one. Dangit. Now I have to work up the funds to buy another
Hey, thanks man! I appreciate the kind words. I just picked up an aC320, and couldn’t be happier. These two go together quite nicely! I highly recommend the pairing!
I remember this tune being tabbed out in DADGAD tuning in Guitarist magazine many years ago. Interesting to see it working just as well in Dropped D. Nice job.
Thank you sir! I’m not skilled enough in DADGAD to pull it off. It felt better to me in drop D, so that’s where I landed.
Hi. Ive listened to a few versions of this but prefer yours. Could i just ask if your guitar is tuned down a full tone or is it a different tuning. I should be able the figure it out from there as videos very clear. Nice job 👍.
Alan, thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I’m tuned to Drop D, so standard tuning with the low E tuned down a full step to D. That’s it!
Very nice job on this! You and your Eastman sound great! Love the cameo by your son!
Thanks Kurt! Coming from you, that's high praise! I really appreciate it, my friend!
