Hurricane Florence Submerges Carolina ! (2018)
Materials from and created by NOAA.
Hurricane Florence was a powerful and long-lived Cape Verde hurricane that caused catastrophic damage in the Carolinas in September 2018, primarily as a result of freshwater flooding due to torrential rain.
Though Florence made landfall as a greatly weakened Category 1 hurricane, winds associated with the tropical cyclone were strong enough to uproot trees and power lines, causing extensive power outages across the Carolinas. Furthermore, due to the slow motion of the storm, heavy rain fell throughout the Carolinas for several days. Coupled with a powerful storm surge, the rainfall caused widespread flooding along a long stretch of the North Carolina coa...

Materials from NOAA. Created by Mike Biere at NOAA's Global Systems Division (GSD), Florence Fetterer and Matt Savoie at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) Sea ice is simply ocean water that has frozen. At least 15% of the ocean is covered by sea ice some part of the year. This means that on average, sea ice covers almost 10 million square miles (about 25 million square kilometers) o...

Materials from and created by NOAA. Hurricane Dorian was an extremely powerful and catastrophic Category 5 Atlantic hurricane, which became the most intense tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is tied with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane for the strongest landfall in the Atlantic basin in terms of maximum sustained winds. The resultant damage to Bahamas was atrocious; most struct...

    Ok this clearly shows the effects of thousands of years of human development. The Mediterranean is saltiest because of its relative isolation from the larger ocean and its exposure to centuries of human waste products. Most specifically, urine. We only started cleaning some of our waste product in the last few centuries. So, notice how that black spot seems to bleed into the Atlantic, the Atlantic would have been exposed to centuries of shipping lanes where waste was not at all processed before release into the ocean. Saving the ocean means reversing the black spots by removing the highest concentrations of salt and focusing on rehabilitating dead zones.

    Why is Atlantic and everything around Europe to salty

    • @kanga-ross
      @kanga-ross 4 месяца назад

      Meditarrean sea is almost cut off from the ocean and has minimum of rivers feeding it while it evaporates in higher rate. Thats why its salty. Black Sea ia also almost cut off, but dont experience as much evaporation and has alot more fresh water coming in, thats why its not as salty. Same thing as to Meditarrean happens to Red Sea and Gulf of Persia. High evaporation rate and much less fresh water income to almost cut off body of water.
