As far as I know, there is no known audio recording of steam rail operations on the Western Maryland's famous 3.8% Black Fork Grade. Six, eight, and sometimes ten large 2-8-0s were used in hoisting the coal trains upgrade from Elkins, Wv. The grade was so steep, the trains were limited to 10 loads of coal per engine. The Bessemer Subdivision is a part of the Canadian National Railroad empire. Up until 2004, it was known as the Bessemer and Lake Erie railroad, an iron ore hauler that shuttled trainloads of ore to the Pittsburgh area for use in the various steel mills run by U.S. Steel. There's one odd thing I found, 368(the engine that John Luther 'Casey' Jones died at the controls of, aged 37) was scrapped in 1935, following several incidents that caused injury and death at *37 years old*
On her way to the scrap yard she derailed and killed a crew member riding her…
