In this video, I am playing an EM from Chicago Coin called 'Super Star' released in 1975. This version is from JPsalas. Most notable features about this table include a live-action pop bumper in the middle surrounded by bouncy borders that make the pinball seem "alive" when it dings around. Hence, "live-action." Also, you will notice a ball return gate that can be activated when hitting all 3 m...

In this video, I am checking out the latest DLC for Roxy Raccoon's Pinball Panic called Manic Miners. The DLC pack comes with 2 tables each with their own playstyle. The first table plays more like arcade pinball with faster gameplay and ball movement. The second table is a little more difficult but also a tad slower but still very fun.

In this video, I will let you in on a well-known secret on Williams Monster Bash known as the "Phantom Flip." To activate it, you must first spell out all the letters in P-H-A-N-T-O-M. You can do this by hitting either blue target next to the Frankenstein toy. Once lit, you can toggle either in-lane and the table will "automatically" flip for you like a ghost or phantom were playing at the tabl...

TOURNAMENT : The Princess Bride Pinball | 1-Ball Challenge
Hey man, hope all, is well. Been super busy, and completely sucked into the games built into my table. Zen keeps dropping games. I think we're up to like seven or eight games in October now. They just put the thing on there wednesday, and Chucky next wednesday. Honestly I hate to say it, but the games are better on there than they are the PC connected to my table. I think the reason why there's so much better on their, is because they have ssf enabled, what you cannot do on the PC version. Ssf you can actually hear and feel the ball rolling, and know exactly where the ball is just by the audio, and the bumpers set off all of the haptics, and it just feels absolutely amazing to play. But as for now, I have OTG turned on, so I'm about to join this tournament :) Ohh yeah Pat Lawler.... Dude is a legit legend
My favorite game that he's done, I think it would have to be a tie of what he did for stern, and would either be Ripley's or Monopoly. Monopolies got that spinner that just nonstop spins on the table that kind of randomizes things. Also the fact that you can hit the chance, and community chest cards, it's just really amazing. In fact after I joined this tournament I might actually turn on VPX and play that for a bit. VPX actually works with the surround sound kit that's in my unit.
Loren! All is well here, no complaints! You are not wrong either, I have no doubts that playing on a pincab is a much better experience overall than playing on PC especially because of things like SSF. It's basically like playing the real table. Maybe I should flip my monitor and play vertical to get a better feel but sometimes I can't be bothered even if its just a few steps. Though I will say it does make a pretty big difference just playing in vertical mode. You got to be excited for Williams Earthshaker coming to PFX, another Pat Lawlor delight! And Yes! He is quite the legend if I do say so myself :)
I have not really played too much of the Monopoly table either, but I've played a great bit of Ripley's on Pinball Arcade. Seems like a lot of Pat Lawlor's tables are really best played IRL to get the full experience out of them. I feel like his tables were more like pieces of art that you could actually interact with, special toppers like the windblower on Whirlwind. Played Addams Family the other day, that one is always great to play IRL. I used to play a lot of the Monopoly board game but I don't think I ever played by the rules when I did. Have so many great memories of playing the board game with my family at the beach, it was like what we did for fun before we got into gaming and computers and cell phones.
Spooky pinball season is upon us! Beautiful looking recreation.
Spooky Pinball season indeed, Dom! I love how VPX authors like to release updates on specific holiday themed tables as well. The Spooky season is not only for Film, but video games, books, and even eats!
@@NewLeaf88 How can we forget about spooky eats! Haha. I got myself some of the monster cereals. Carmella Creeper, Franken-Berry and Count Chocula. Those are the only 3 released in Canada. On a completely unrelated note. I watched Crocodile Dundee 2. I think if you really like the first, you can't go wrong with the second. Its very much a more of the same type sequel. I know it didn't get very good reviews, maybe the novelty just wore off on some people. I think its inoffensive. There's nothing wrong with it and I enjoyed it well enough.
Oh man, I think that's something that a lot of people overlook during Halloween season are the cereals. Because people are just focused on the candy but the cereals can be good too! I like how cereal companies and foods like to celebrate the season as well and change things up to get into the spirit of it all. I'm pretty sure it boosts sales as well lol (probably the main reason they do it), but that's besides the point! Haha. You've convinced me to watch Part 2 then! I think your assessment of the movie makes sense because of where it takes place in the story. The first movie was like an elaborate and entertaining beginning and intro into the characters so the second movie seems like it could be a little more fun because we've already been introduced to most of the characters. I feel like Crocodile Dundee 2 will just continue where we left off in the first. Do you think you will see Part 3 in Los Angeles next Dom? "Now that's a KNIFE!" is like a line everyone says when they reference the first movie, it's got a lot of good one-liners!
This must be the hardest one ball challenge yet! I almost gave up with it! I just can't get the hang of the top flipper the same as Adams family. The only tip i've got is eat 3 tins of Baked beans & you will feel the storm coming . At least the misses the cat & Dog evacuate the room for me to concentrate on the challenge! LOL
HAHAHA Balchie you are hilarious! I don't think I would want to be in the same room either if you just ate that many baked beans....that's a recipe for disaster har-har! Yeah, I think you're right! Whirlwind always been a tough table ESPECIALLY for 1-ball. I can't get the hang of that flipper either for the millions ramp, it feels impossible. Multiball is much too difficult compared to other multiballs where you can rack up millions easy.
Argh, pinball fx on my steam deck again broken. Buttons don't work 😢
I wonder why that keeps happening with Pinball FX, does it happen whenever they update the game? Or is this a steam deck issue, sorry that your having problems with it Soma :(
@@NewLeaf88 It's the only game on my deck that does this.
Found the solution. Pinball FX only listens to the first controller and I have some other bluetooth controller connected which got the first spot. Even when disabled. Luckily you can reorder controllers per game on the steam deck.
So glad that you found the solution Soma! I'm sure others playing Pinball FX on Steam deck are having the same issues. So you are playing Pinball FX via steam deck with a USB/Bluetooth controller? Are the steam deck controls not intuitive when playing pinball? I've never used a steam deck so I wouldn't know but I do play Pinball FX with a USB controller myself
@@NewLeaf88 the steam deck is a gamepads itself. For other games I have my steam deck connected to the TV and we play with 2 Bluetooth gamepads.
My computer has a very hard time running VPX, so these older VP9 releases are an absolute life saver! They run great on my potato PC, and most of the tables I want to play were made for it.
Yeah, VP9 is the way to go if you are playing on an older machine! The latest version of VPX is so resource intensive! I actually played a real World Cup table the other day, it was really worn out/washed out, but really neat to play the actual thing. Sometimes the latest does not always = the greatest in terms of VPX. Glad you're still enjoying VP9 my friend!
You talk about the importance of the Addams family table for Williams as the time. I think something that's something that gets forgotten about and underestimated. If this table was a flop, who know what could've happened? Would Williams shut down? Without Williams, would someone have taken their place? What would the world be without all their later releases and innovations? Could different ideas, mechanics and gimmicks be the standard of what we play today should someone else been a new trendsetter? What if pinball as a whole just really fizzled out as the loss of Williams wasn't covered for by others and the industry slowly went down with them?
These are all equally great questions, Dom! I was asking myself these same questions while I was thinking about what to say in this video. It really makes you think sometimes because what pinball looks like today may look totally different if it were not for tables like the Addams Family. It's hard to say or speculate what could have happened if the Addams Family table flopped. But I compare Williams to a big budget studio like Universal or even Walt Disney but within the pinball sphere. I think Williams would have survived even if the Addams Family flopped simply because of how well they were doing in the early 90s and late 80s with their other tables. I think they would have found a way to recover with other successful tables. But here's the thing - I think if it had not been for Data East taking the leap and doing tables on licensed themes earlier like Batman and Back to the Future based on popular films, I don't think Williams would have tried either. And so the fact that Addams Family proved to be successful for Williams just encouraged them to do more licensed themes for pinball. Around this time, in the early '90s part of what kept pinball companies competitive was that there was a healthy amount of competition and rivalries. I think Data East was keeping Williams on their toes so to speak. I know its hard to make a direct comparison but I would say it was similar to the console "wars" you had in the mid '90s with Nintendo and Sony, each trying to one up each other and the end result is a better gaming system for consumers.
I'm looking at buying this physical machine (it for sale locally) - but would the virtual version be better? It's a hard choice!
Oh man, as much as I love virtual pinball, nothing can beat playing a real pinball machine..so I'd say buy the table if its something you really want. How much is it going for btw? Would this be your first pinball table purchase?
@@NewLeaf88 £1200, I went to see it and it's in pretty good condition. I worry about the maintenance of it though, and it's quite a simple layout, I wonder if I want something a bit more interesting/complex. Yes this would be my first.
I would also be worried about maintenance or if something were to go wrong. Maybe it would be better to buy something newer that has some sort of manufacturers warranty at that price if possible. If you end up buying it, let me know! I think owning a pinball table would be exciting but I'm like you, I'd always be worried if it broke down and spending money to fix it/repair it.
My mind was not computing how that ball gate worked at first, haha. What is meant by a "Live-Action Bumper" versus a regular bumper? I do really enjoy the borders around it for the extra bouncing areas.
Haha I was also confused by how the ball gate worked at first. I think you have to lite all 3 targets first to open it, and then to re-open the gate you just have to hit any one of the 3 targets again as long as they're all lit. If you're a skilled player that can be done fairly easily imo. Probably even easier on the real table too. I think "Live-Action" just refers to the way the bumper and the borders are interacting with the ball rapidly, at least that's what I think. The interaction with the border and the bumper can really cause the ball to ding around, so it's more "live" if that makes sense, more purposeful than say passive where the ball just randomly hits bumpers.
The fact they only made 500 of them
Wow, I didn't even realize the number was that low. Kind of surprising tbh.
Wow, great table and video, thank you !!!!
Thank you for the comment! Happy Pinballing to you!
Terrible game, deserves it #200+ pinside ranking. Boring, uninspired non functioning mechs that take up all the space that could have been actually used for something fun and functional. Only redeeming feature is 6 players, but what 6 people willingly want to play this turd???
I think your point is well taken here tbh. I never thought this table was extremely fun to play digitally. But I would think it plays a little better on the real thing, as with most pinball. I feel like the designers of this table focused too much on making it feel like the movie instead of focusing on what makes a pinball table actually fun to play.
Great aesthetic to this one. Have you played this table before? I don't recognize it myself. Love the way the ramp feeds into the mini playfield.
Thank you, Dom! Yes! I've played it a few times before but only have 1 video for it from a few months ago. This version is a slight mod so it looks a bit different from the original but not much, only in the lighting. Yeah, I love how the ramp feeds into the mini playfield as well. BUT my favorite is the captive ball hitting the "captive" bumper. The bumper itself is surrounded by bouncy material to ensure the captive ball can get several bounces off the pop bumper!
@@NewLeaf88 Haha, yeah. I did read about that aspect in the description and can see it in play as well. I just wanted to give a shoutout to another great part of the design. Very cool table overall.
Your score was a little too close to me for my liking . I've got a great new technique to play .Top secret for now. Didn't even get a jackpot on my latest score
Haha my score was just a way of saying, "Balchie...I'm getting close...be careful!" We shall see who ends up ahead of each other by the end of the week!
@@NewLeaf88 I don't think anyone will catch me so am going to concentrate on the world all time leader board as would have been in 10th place with my last score! PS UTD4000 is in 26th place will be 27th soon LOL 🤣🤣🤣
WOW! I don't know how I will even get close to your score of 204 million...that's insanely good for a 1ball! I'm struggling to get past 65 million...Balchie is ACTUALLY back this time...there's something cookin in balchie's brew!!!!!! Balchie is COOKIN'!!!!!
@@NewLeaf88 I'll send you an email with the way to do it tomorrow as long as you don't share it until the tournament is over.
So I finally got over the hump and got to 95 million...but still not close to beating your high-score Balchie!
Thanks for the quick upload as always! I enjoyed the quick new format here. Brief, succinct and to the point! The cannon on the minecarts was something I'd never seen either, so I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really just wanted to try a few new things with this set and make it a chaotic pack of tables.
You're absolutely welcome, Dom! I did it differently this time because as I was recording I thought that maybe a 25 minute video was too long for a simple review. So I thought of just doing a voice over some gameplay footage of both tables and just mentioning some of the biggest takes from both tables. The cannon on the minecarts was really trippy at first because I was wondering where the ball was shooting out from and then I saw how it worked and I think that's a very neat idea because you can plunge from just about anywhere. Would love to see something like it on a real table if they could find a way to do it honestly. Really liked the TNT drop-targets as well, they packed a lot of punch on the ball!
@@NewLeaf88 I mentioned technical difficulties with the tables and the cannon was one of the things causing issues. Believe it or not, getting the cannon to work wasn't an issue as it was heavily based on combining things I'd already done in the past. However, the camera system really did not like it! Haha.
Oh man, it seems like that's how it goes sometimes with game development. You get 1 thing to work well and then you encounter another bump in the road. But from what I can tell, everything worked well during my play.
I hate the magnets oh so much. also I just can't get the hang of the top flipper. PS how about you Give a shoutout & encourage people to share tips. I've got one. After locking one ball plunge the next ball slowly for an instant lock.
Sounds like a good idea Balchie! Can you get an instalock on the sewer/tunnel is that what you're referring to for the instalock? Because I know there are a few shots you can make for instalocking the ball. Thanks for this tip!
Is this the best table based on a show or movie?
That's a good question Dom! I think its considered one of the best tables based on a movie, but there were also a lot of great ones during this time (Hook, Last Action Hero, Batman Data East, etc.). Now you have Stern creating a lot of tables based on shows and movies that can do more in terms of technology. So I'd say it was paramount and probably influenced a lot of other tables based on movies and TV.
I feel bad about this score haha, i only had time for a very quick go and no time to improve :D I’m sure i could have improved that a bit! Ahh well next week!
No worries Wombat! You should never feel bad about your tournament score my friend! We are all here just to have fun :) But I thank you for joining as always! But remember its just about having fun!
What a frustrating table. Magnets doing random things, left loop straight down the middle and flippers flipping randomly. Feels like I'm not in control.
Haha Soma, I love this take because these are all the things that make this table GREAT! ...and very frustrating...All normal things in the Addams Family! Muhahahah
Well well well, what do we have here ? Sounds that bring me back good ooooold memories :D
Haha anjoLas! You are the biggest street fighter fan on my channel I believe :) Hadouken!! What have you been playing lately btw? I've not played any Street Fighter title in years, but seeing the movie was nice! And of course playing this table!
@@NewLeaf88 i've been playing USF (SF4) on PS3 and PS4 when i can, usually 2 times per week. You should really try it, dude, it's amazing, it's THE best SF imo of course. I've been playing it now for 16 years, it's a long run lol Cheers
16 years?! That's a long time! The only game that I've played consistently for like 5-6 years is probably SMITE. So when you play SF4 are you still able to find people to play on the ladder matches or do you just play solo arcade? What's the best rank you've gotten in SF4? Third Strike was my go-to game back in like 2005, I played it online and just spammed Remy moves! (My favorite SF3 character btw) because he reminds me so much of Guile/charge character. Also loved playing Oro! As long as you enjoy it, keep on playing my guy!!!!
@@NewLeaf88 SF 3rd Strike was LIT !! it revolutionized SF as we see it today. SF 5 and SF 6 still try to copy it and both fail HA ! Remember Street Fighter moment #37 ? It was when Daigo Umehara became famous ! (btw i've played against him personally but unfortunately it was SFV already at that time - Capcom Pro Tour 2016 i believe). Yes, i STILL find people to play online on a daily basis, it's amazing both on PS3 and PS4. There are a few people still streaming a LOT of videos and making compilations. Search for the best Vega at the moment among other chars and, imo, some of the best reflexes/reactions called StealthSneak. He's a monster !! And no, i can't play like him 🤣🤣🤣The best Ryu online is, imo, AmericanDaigo, also a good friend and uploader. There's a lot of SF players out there :D
Wait, you played against Daigo?! That's insanely cool! How did the match go? Are you referring to that Daigo moment when he parried all of Chun Li's kicks and then countered and won the match? Haha its moments like those that make competitive gaming so great! It's really quite astonishing how good some of these SF players are and become. They have played the game for years and have mastered it every single aspect of it. It's like they are a computer and can predict moves ahead of time in regards to timing and reflexes. That's also good news to hear that people still play the game online, I love to hear that. When I would play SF3 online, my hands would get so sweaty sometimes because of how intense the matches were. I even had sweat coming down from my face lol. But that's what makes SF such a good game, because of how intense and close it can get! I tried playing SF3 on FightCade but something felt weird about it, like the netcode or something. I'd rather play online on a console like Playstation than on FightCade it feels more genuine.
I consider myself a "#1 Metallica fan" I've been in ALL of their concerts in my country except for the 1st one (i was about 10 years old) This is another table to buy ! Damn man, you're costing me money 🤣🤣🤣
What?! That's insane! So now you are my biggest Street Fighter AND Metallica Super Fan lol. Gotta ask you though, what is your favorite Metallica song that is not one of there most popular? Is there a song that you like that isn't that well known? I only know a few of their more popular songs myself, so I'm not a fan but I'm well aware of the band. Oh, and when you buy the table, can I play for free? haha
@@NewLeaf88 i like the Unforgiven III, which is a not so popular music of them and they usually NEVER play it on the stage also Saint Anger is another one (the Saint Anger album is not appreciated by the old schooled Metalliica fans but i'm an exception lol) mostly due to the different sounds of the drums and snairs. And yes, i'll let you know when i buy this table ehehe What's your favorite music band ?
I will have to give these songs a listen then, anjoLas! I don't really have a favorite music band but I really do like Foo Fighters songs. The song "All My Life" from Foo Fighters got me pumped every time I heard it being played on the radio. So I bought the CD/Album One by One from them. Do you play any instruments btw? I tried learning guitar and piano but didn't go far with them lol.
@@NewLeaf88 unfortunately, i don't play any instrument you ever heard of, unless you ever heard of an instrument called the BERIMBAU 🤣 You like movies ? If so, i recommend you watch a movie from the early 90s called "Only the strong", and you'll find out what a berimbau is or you can simply google it ;) Besides, the movie is pretty enjoyable, i watched it hundreds of times back when i was a teenager lol I practiced Capoeira and also teached some a few years (amongst other things as i mentioned you before i think) but Capoeira is not really considered a "martial art" per say. Answering your question: no, i don't. Always wanted to learn how to play the classic guitar and play all my 80s favorite songs but...never had the time because of sports, e competed almost until i was 29. And then i started teaching for real (Judo, Capoeira and Krav Maga). Ever practiced martial arts ?
Never heard of the Berimbau before but I just googled a picture and it looks really cool, at first I thought it looked like a fishing rod. Also, I've never seen the movie Only The Strong but I'll add it to my watchlist. As you know, I love watching recommended films except for horrors...I can't stand jump scare movies so I stay away from them. I remember always wanting to learn Karate or Martial Arts when I was a kid. I would always see martial arts studios near me and a lot of people practicing but for some reason my parents thought it was "too dangerous" so I never learned. But I do enjoy watching a good karate film every once in a while! I've heard of Capoeira before but don't really know too much about it, I've heard its more like a "dance" in some ways? I've personally never practiced martial arts myself but I like the philosophy behind it. I really like the self-defense approach to it and I think it can become really useful so I have an immense appreciation for those who do practice and teach it. I think it's cool too that you enjoy games like Street Fighter but also take it to the next level by actually practicing martial arts yourself. Awesome really!
I have beaten you already . PS had to hack the password before you posted this! LOL
Say what?!! Get the Batmobile ready, we gotta catch Balchie!!!!!!!!!!
Why is there a hole on the right bottom?
Haha, I was hoping no one would notice that! I think some pieces did not connect right or I missed a step lol.
So I have got it loaded in and using the newest stuff. I am fairly new but this and goldeneye are the latest two I have installed. Both will launch or let me move the flippers. I can put coins in and start. Just no flipper movement or ball ready for launch. I am so lost. Uninstalled and tried again. Any advice is much appreciated.
Totally understand how you might be lost, it happens to me still today! But I would double check to make sure you're using the latest VPX version, so I think it's 10.8 right now. You can find the latest version here : github.com/vpinball/vpinball/releases/tag/v10.8.0-1975-051104c Also, you may need to update your vpinmame to version 3.6, which you can find here : github.com/vpinball/pinmame/releases/tag/v3.6.0-998-a77c2d2 I'm assuming you have the correct roms, so these would be my only guesses to fix your problem. Hope it helps you!
@@NewLeaf88 Thanks. I did a verification check. I used pinpopper to load all the programs so I do have the latest versions. I am looking to see what it would take to update them in pinup just to see if I am missing anything. Thanks for the response.
You're welcome! I don't use pinup popper myself so I just manually install updates when needed. But I'm hoping you find a solution and would be curious to know if it gets fixed for you, so I can help others who may have similar issues :)
Ill have a go of this one.
I was going to tell you on Steam and ask if you'd ever tried this mode :) It's cool I must say!
This mode and the Monster Bash multi rock.
Rock, they do Urko! Also, I don't think anyone is beating your 1st place score!!

Lady Luck, ain't she purdy!!!!!
Good tip did not know that thanks dude!
You're absolutely welcome Scott! Glad I could inform :)
You know about Lyman's Lament mode?
It sounds so familiar, how does that mode work again?
@@NewLeaf88 It's an Easter egg, you put in a sequence of flipper inputs before a game to unlock it.
@@NewLeaf88 Here's how to do it: - 1. Start a new game, but don't launch the ball. 2. Flip both flippers at the same time once. 3. Press the left flipper 11 times. 4. Press the right flipper once. 5. Press the left flipper 5 times. 6. Press the right flipper once. 7. Press the left flipper 6 times. 8. Press the right flipper once. If you did it correctly you'll hear Lyman say "Totally!". To start the mode, launch the ball and shoot the hole.
Thanks for this! I just tried it and its actually really cool. Wasn't hard to do except for getting the ball into the scoop lol. Loved hearing Lyman's callouts and the different music on the table. Made a tutorial and gave you a shoutout, thanks for the reminder friend!
Where do I put the rom (sfight2.nv) file for the table to work? What am I missing??
Hello Kevin, that is not the rom itself, that would just be an nvram file. What you need is the rom for Street Fighter (sfight2) which can you get on pinballnirvana (good site for virtual pinball) and then you would put that file in your rom folder inside of your vPinMame folder. Make sure you don't unzip the sfight2 file either, just leave it zipped and put it inside your rom folder. Hope this helps, sorry if I'm not too clear!
@@NewLeaf88 Thank you for your help, that makes sense. It’s working now and the game is great!!
Glad it worked for you Kevin! And glad I could help :) Enjoy!
On some tables the pop bumpers are weak sounding while other things are awesome sounding with my haptics kit. If I like how a pop bumper sounds from one table, can I somehow import it to another table so it sounds the same? I like the good thud thud of an aggressive pop bumper and some tables have it while others are just low and meh.
Yes, you most certainly can do that! For those tables that have the pop bumper sounds you like, all you have to do is first Export them from the table. You can do this by opening the table in VPX and then clicking on Table then Sound Manager, then you will scroll down the list to look for where it will say something like Bumper1, Bumper 2, and what you do then is click on that file and then click on Export on the right which will download the sound file itself. Once you have all the sounds you like, you can easily import them to your other table by going back to Sound Manager and then selecting the bumper sound of that table and then clicking Reimport From and it will overwrite and use that sound instead. Hope this helps you!
@NewLeaf88 Thank you, sir. I was trying to work on this today, problem I had was that it was almost impossible for me to find out which sound went with the specific bumpers on thw table I wanted to change, some are just named something random so I was struggling to find the right bumpers to change. Basically, it is the mushroom shaped bumpers just not sure what they are called. And went into 2 of my weaker tables and wanted to change them, but couldn't figure that they were called to change them.
Oh yeah, I know what you mean! Sometimes they are not even close to being called bumper and you just sort of have to test out everything at that point. But the process is pretty simple :) I think the poppers you're referring to are actually just called mushroom bumpers, they are supposed to be like miniature pop bumpers. Tables like Fireball from Bally had a few of them! Curious, what tables are you editing the sound on, are they like actual tables or original creations? Happy Pinballing to you btw!
@NewLeaf88 someone had actually linked your page to me when I asked how I can edit the sounds. There are a few to edit but the one that got me asking was this new table released this weekend on VPU called Wild West which is like Wild West Rampage. There are these wagon wheels on the left that are like those mushroom pop bumpers and they sound almost like nothing at all. I want the loud punch thud type sound. Working on figuring what they are labeled as so I can copy the thud sound I like from the bumpers on Fathom which have an awesome thud to them
You sound a lot like me because I am all about proper pop bumper sounds. They are my favorite mechanic in pinball. There's nothing like playing a real table and hearing the pop bumpers go thump! When I played Attack from Mars on the real machine I recorded the pop bumper sounds and added them to the VPX version to make it feel more realistic. Sometimes I even try to find bumper sounds on sound effect sites because I want the proper sound. I have not played the Wild West table you mentioned but I've definitely played Fathom before. It's been a while since I messed around with bumper sounds, I've just been really into playing pinball for the most part.
The fact that you can't skip the match sequence between games is so annoying. 😩
I've ALWAYS thought that Soma! We should have the option to skip it because even if we do get a match, it's not like we need a "Free" replay lol. We own the table haha. Btw, Thank YOU and congrats on being a Premium Member for 1 YEAR! That's actually kind of incredible that its been that long, it went by really fast. Though I must say the green logo looks fire haha.
Some tables have a scoring animation skip when pushing both flipper buttons, was expecting the same for the match. But I guess this has something to do with the pinball rom emulation layer.
Yeah I think you're right Soma because I know that Creature from the Black Lagoon has that hurry-up/skip feature on it. So I'm guessing it would be hard to code something that could skip something within the rom emulation itself?
hahahaha I never knew a virtual version was made of this table. I have this one for real already for 15 years. I have it in my office and I play it at least once per week a single game or two. It never borwes me. The multiball is fantastic. I have to admit I did put a wooden beam of 7cm (3inch) under the hind legs so the slope has increased substantially. So compared to my real Big Valley this virtual one is slow running. But I guess that is the real speed at normal slope. I do agree it is the greatest electro mechanical pinball but maybe I am not totally objective and I for sure do not know all the electro mechanical pinball machines :) thanks for the video
Hello there! I enjoyed reading your comment btw :) It's always nice to hear similar experiences where people have played or own the real machine. I can totally understand why you'd want a higher slope for faster gameplay and at the end of the day, it's still pinball :) I think probably one of the greatest differences between Electromechanical tables and solid states is the game speed. I still have not played an EM in real life but would love to. Do you own any other real tables or just Big Valley? Also, have you had to do a lot of maintenance for the table itself or has it just worked for all these years? Thanks again for your comment!
@@NewLeaf88 I am lucky I guess. I changed the rubbers because they became soft and some snapped. I changed the fusebox because it was corroded too much. I had a new head glass made. But that's it up till now. I guess you can do a lot yourself. everyhting is electro mechanical which in the end is easier to trouble shoot and repair then electronics. I have one error and that seems to be the tilt relais. I just have to find it but I did not bother yet. When you try to tilt the machine, the tilt lite does appear but it does not hold. So in reality there is no tilt working. But that doesn't bother me. I promised myself to never push the machine anyway. However in my younger years when we played in bars and arcades, we were always shaking and moving and pushing the machines right to their tilt edges. Always saving a lot of balls :) I agree the later machines like Star Wars, leathal weapon, adams family and terminitor, which I played a lot, were much faster and great fun. But I grew up as a child with electromechanical so my nostalgia feelings wanted an electromechanical one. Also out of respect for what was achived without electronics. It really is a mechanical computer. It is amazing switching and turning componants to store everthing and make discissions. I do not own another pinball machine. Just this one Big Valley. So I am not a collector of pinball machines. :) If you are ever around in the province of Limburg in The Netherlands in Europe, give me a shout and you can play my Big Valley as long as you like :)
I think it's so awesome to own a physical machine because you are holding onto a piece of history! Pinball machines like Big Valley are antiques and remnants of past culture :) You can ask people today and some have no idea what a pinball machine is haha. So it sounds like your machine is relatively problem free which is very nice. I tried to tilt one of the newer machines and they are so heavy that you really have to put in a lot of effort to move the machine around! I know that some earlier machines were very sensitive and could detect a minor tilt very fast and that others you could move the table so much before getting the warning. I wanted to ask, do you also enjoy going to other places to play real machines? I go to a bar near me that has about 12 different pinball tables and I play them every few months, especially when they add a new one to the lineup. I will keep that in mind if I'm ever in your area, thank you for that! It's so nice to know that at least one machine of Big Valley is in good hands with you :)

@@NewLeaf88 How about you mention what place the winner is on the all time leader board for example urkz1945 would be 13th not bad. Top place is a score of 447,980,550 .Shame tournaments don't count!!!
That's a good idea, Balchie! I will do that. It's crazy to think that you can get 13th on the all-time leaderboard with just 1 ball!! That's what I love about the 1-ball challenge, it really makes you a better pinball player I think. Yeah, I wish tournaments counted for the all-time leaderboards, that would make them a lot more interactive I think. I thought Zen did that with their Grand Tournaments on the Events Tab, is that not the case?
This is an incredible mechanic. Btw, I love these short breakdown videos.
Thank you Dom! I also enjoy creating videos similar to this because I think it can be both informative and interesting. I always knew about the Phantom Flip but I never really took the time to fully understand it until I started playing this table more. It was like an "Oh..that's how it works" kind of moment for me!
Cool feature that.
Yes, Urko! Love features like this. 'Thing' Flipper from Addams Family really similar as well.

Hello, I will link you a video on how to get started with Visual Pinball on RUclips. ruclips.net/video/jMin3p_lWUQ/видео.htmlsi=l-Vb68TJvlrH21BA This should answer a lot of your question, hope it helps!
Helpful! I've never bothered to work out how the Phantom Flip feature works before.
Thank you BlueCrayon! Me neither, I thought it was more complicated than it was, but its actually really simple!
Love your breakdown of Medieval Madness. I think first and foremost, a table needs to be visually interesting in order to draw people in. Once they're suckered into playing, a table needs to do something unique/interesting or just really excel at the normal. This table does all of those things but also tells an incredible story that can appeal to most audiences. There's a reason it stands the test of time, just like you said!
You're exactly right, Dom! From a design point of view, pinball is interesting because across all tables, everything is pretty much more or less the same with a few minor differences (like an extra ramp, one more bumper, or extra flipper, etc.) So then you start to realize that what actually separates the tables apart really comes down to presentation like the visual theme and artwork. Artwork/Theme is huge because it's what you're staring at the entire time and its the world that you enter when you play a pinball table. Much like a video game, you are a guest in that world so to speak. Medieval Madness, just like you said, does all those things incredibly well. For a 1997 table, it's not really super complicated but it uses the huge castle toy and the pop-up trolls to give the table a big personality. I think personality of a table is also very important. Attack from Mars is another good example of a table that has a lot of personality in it!
@@NewLeaf88 The presentation and art are what draw people in but its all meaningless without good gameplay! But its hard to draw a crowd with great gameplay but crummy artwork! Its the visuals that entice people to give it a go!
Exactly, Dom! You can have the greatest art in the world but if the table itself doesn't play well or is lacking in design, people will not want to play it. You need both to be good to really attract people to the table. Remember too that pinball tables needed things like "Attract Mode" to entice people to play the table. Getting people to play is the first step, and then you hook them by having great gameplay! Even though Pinball is not really seen as gambling anymore, I still think a lot of the concepts are apparent in the machine!
Great breakdown. Quick & to the point. Fun looking table and without even breaking into the mechanics/gameplay, that flipper setup just instantly catches my eye!
Thank you, Dom! I was thinking if you would ever use a captive ball spinner in Roxy! Or did you see anything on this table that could inspire you to introduce new mechanics?
@@NewLeaf88 Honestly, that captive ball spinner is incredible. I've been intrigued by that and the sort of slot machine type tables on slot shots and other games. I've toyed with the idea of doing something similar but haven't dived into the idea yet.
I find the mechanic interesting as well. I've noticed it on a few tables but not many. If you've seen the table Tee'd Off from Gottlieb, it also uses the same mechanic. What's interesting too is that there are different types of "captive" ball mechanisms. You can have a captive ball just by itself that can move when hit, but is pretty much stationary or you can have like messenger balls that act as a relay between the pinball itself and another target. Slot mechanics are interesting too because its kind of like an ode to pinballs roots in gambling.
Awesome Video. Great to hear your voice again. I am hoping that you will review my new table when it comes out soon. cheers, dea TEE
Thank you DT! Will you be posting a teaser for your new table on your channel? It's almost Halloween time so I know you're up to something spooky haha. Cheers mate!
That "roulette" wheel would have been a great novelty for a table in 1972.
Very true, Urko! The roulette wheel is one of my favorite things about this table. The designer, Norm Clark, was the first to one to use a captive ball spinner back on the A-Go-Go table from 1966!
i tried this steam game recently and it just kept crashing
I noticed this happening too. I got it to work eventually. I think I verified integrity of the game files on Steam. You could try that to see if it works.
@@NewLeaf88 it would still crash randomly. the app is not well made.
NewLeaf88 you can try & CHASE ME CHASE ME but I've got a new pair of Jordan's so doubt you will catch me !! LOL 🤣🤣🤣 PS great tip of taking off the extra effects as can make you lose a ball.
Haha Balchie, you really are back now! I have to try harder now and sweat if I want to even get close to your score on this tournament lol. And yes! Extra effects are very distracting, I need all my concentration if I'm to beat balchie's score! Btw, any tips for Medieval Madness?!
@@NewLeaf88 Not really but I think go for the castle not that I have really done that as even super jackpots aren't worth that much! Big points for smashing the castle. I'm on Holiday from tomorrow so no more goes from me so CHASE ME CHASE ME.
Good tip actually, Balchie! Castle is such a risky shot sometimes but worth so many points. Multiball Jackpots very small as you said. Will try again before tournament ends. Enjoy your Holiday, Balchie and your Air Jordans! HAHA.
Nice presentation on this one. Always fun to see a new twist on and old classic.
Definitely, Dom! I was telling someone else that this version plays like the real thing even though I've never played the actual table before. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but when you play a few real tables you can kind of anticipate what the machine would feel/play like if that makes sense. It's a lot better than the previous version, a much needed update/tune up!
@@NewLeaf88 While I haven't played the real thing myself. I understand what you mean by that. Once you experience something for yourself, you sort of get the feel for something and know what to expect. That's cool that you can now compare digital to real more accurately.
I would also say this is a perfect example of why digital pinball is so awesome. I don't know if I'll ever come across a Street Fighter II pinball machine in my life, but I become that much closer to experiencing the real thing through its digital counterpart. This is why I'm always checking the Pinball Map App just to see if they bring in a table that I've only played on digital. My next visit is to check out World Cup Soccer from 1994 by Bally!
Btw Dom, I went to a thrift store and found a Jingle All The Way DVD lol. Popped it in my dvd player and watched a little bit of it. Do you visit thrift stores much? Sometimes they have some good things I find.

Oh nice! I didn't know about the color DMD for this. VPW can really light up a table can't they?!
Oh, many thanks for the mentions! Great vid as always. Fancy doing a collaboration on a PFX tournament sometime? I've done collabs with people like LUP's Club before and they are always great fun and attract tons of players. My biggest win ever was an 88-player tourney by the way! I'm running Pro Mode tourneys in PFX currently and will be launching my second themed 3-table tournament event on VPX next week. (The first one was sea-themed and featured Fathom!). I'm thinking of doing more livestreams/discussions on my Discord and also setting up a regular podcast to discuss pin news, tournaments, info etc. Keep up the great content and I'll see you on the leaderboards matey.

I saw your Pro tournament on Hurricane, gave it a few tries and its mighty tough! But I needed that challenge and I think its always worth trying :) You won an 88-player tournament?! That's nuts! What table was that on and what mode was it? Congrats! That's really hard to do sometimes especially with all the good competition on Pinball FX. There are some really really good players out there. Have you been able to play real pins as well? I've been playing a few real tables here and there. That sounds really cool about your VPX 3-table tournaments, Max! I would join but I do not use Discord but I'm happy that you're engaging in your own creativity, that's really cool actually. Of course, mate! @@NewLeaf88 It was in a LUP's Club collab tourney in February on STTNG in Classic mode when I scored over 17B points, which was 7B more than the 2nd place score. I also recently re-claimed #1 spot with a world-leading score on White Water Time Challenge in single player. Haha.
Oh right! I think you told me about that tourney and I joined too, even made a video for it I think. 17B is crazy good on STTNG! Good point about the different routes, I also like the skillshot on Earthshaker!! Btw, thanks for sharing my videos Max :) Some of my other friends saw it on Discord, thank you!
So you ask how we play, lol, well I play static on a table in custom view as you know. Honestly I used to turn all fx off, especially the enhancements on the Williams tables. I just wanted them to be stock recreations. But now I have warmed up to it and I leave them and the score pop-ups on as well. BTW the, real table is awesome, but the newer Chicago Gaming Company remake of if is even better. Color dmd and some other enhancements.
When you say custom view are you talking about that manual camera editor they have? I tried that but it doesn't seem to make a large difference, its kind of limited. I am torn between the enhancements and keeping them original, but I find the enhancements distract me but I'll turn them on once in a while just for the change. I LOVE Pop-Up scores because I always like to know how many points I'm earning, without them, it feels weird to me lol because I'm always used to them turned on. I would love to play any version of this table IRL. I've only played 1 Chicago Gaming Company remake and it was on Cactus Canyon. I thought they did a really nice job with it. Still looked and felt like the original but had added colors/color DMD. I want to see those troll pop up toys sooo bad lol. Where did you play the real one, is it at a place near you Loren?
@@NewLeaf88 lol you should see it in 3d on my machine. The VPX version that is. This and Attack from Mars are two of the best looking tables in 3d. Attack from Mars, the bouncing aliens look like you can grab them. And yes I meant the manual cam, but when you are playing in table mode it's easer to set the right tilt on the view. Still doesn't look as good as VPX in Window mode, but it's an improvement
@@NewLeaf88 there is a place not too far from me that has both machines, the original Williams the Chicago gaming company version. That one place I told you about that is like 30min from me, has two originals and the remake, only one of the originals was upgraded with color dmd and retrofitted with LEDs and looks far more impressive than the remake. They did the same thing to Funhouse, and it looks absolutely amazing.
How comparable would you say the 3d version of these tables are to the VR versions? Are they both really good in their respective environments or is one more "real" than the other? I absolutely love those little alien toys on Attack from Mars. I've played the real machine a few times IRL now, it never gets old. I love when they start to shake haha. I think you can even buy the figurines by themselves on ebay, same with the troll toy pop-ups on Medieval Madness. I would love to purchase one of those just as like a collectible! Also, if you created a tournament on PFX, let me know I'll join in! What are you up to this evening Loren? I watched Spawn from 1997 today, thought it was okay. Great acting though by John Leguizamo as the Clown!
Oh you're so lucky! I keep checking the Pinball Map App to see what new tables they add. If I ever see Medieval Madness, I am making the trip ASAP! The most recent one they added near me is World Cup Soccer (Bally, '94). I know there's a place near me that also has the Funhouse remake but its further away. I want to meet Rudy in person lol.
I been saying that for a while. The social side of pinball. I doubt I'll find any tables where I am now lol. It's very nice nature though here so I'm not complaining. As long as I have internet. I think the pinball m table comes out in 4 weeks from now.
I have you to thank Draky because you are the one who really inspired me to be consistent with these weekly tournaments :) I never really began to see the social side of pinball until I started participating and playing in more tournaments and talking to people, its been great meeting all sorts of people from all over the world including yourself! Are you in the country side of France or near the city like Paris? Do you know when the Earthshaker table will release? That will be such a fun tournament table imo.
Oct 26th. I assume it's was originally meant to be Friday the 13th and they couldn't secure the license or too expensive. Either way I will take it gladly. Also the same day they are putting the Chucky one natively on AtGames 4k pinball machine.
Yeah I believe you're right, it was meant to be a Friday the 13th theme but they couldn't get the license. Yep, I'm always down for a new table even if its not a theme I particularly enjoy, can't complain with more pinball!
@@NewLeaf88 hi :) I guess EShaker will be Christmas along with the full pack but not too long for the campbloodbrook. I am in a town not far from Marseille South France it's a lot nicer here than where I live in UK ! No pinball though lol. No Xbox either but I don't really miss it here it's too nice to miss. :-)
@@NewLeaf88 yeah!! It doesn't make much difference to me. It looks a really good tabke. We all want the license but it's not a huge difference it plays n looks the same as it would anyways.
Pinball is sort of like Golf in a sense. You can make multiplayer versions of it, you are sort of just playing by yourself but in a community. When golfers play, they directly compete against one another but they can't do anything to affect their other person's ball or plays. Sharing the love for the game though, interacting and competing with one another is what makes it so great. I loved your analysis.
That's an incredibly good analogy Dom! I really like what you said about how in pinball you can't directly affect how a person plays but you can give advice on strategies, very much like golf. I've never played actual golf except for mini-golf but I think that's generally how it is when you go golfing with friends. Everyone can critique each others game or whatnot, but can't really affect the outcome or results. It's really up to the individual at that point. When I read your comment, a light bulb really went off in my head, I love when that happens. And the awesome thing is, you can say the same for a lot of gaming communities as well. I think there are other games that also do a great job of fostering good communities and great competition.
You talked everything in this video, pinball and its amazing community! I would like to have a pinball house in my city in Brazil, but unfortunately there isn't, but thanks to Virtual Pinball, I'm meeting people from all over the world and getting to compete like at the real tables. Hug!
Thank you so much BadJack! I hope someday you can also play some real pinball machines in your city. Have you tried using Pinball Map App? You might be able to find some tables near you since you live in a city :) I feel the same way too! I'm enjoying meeting so many different people from all over the world because of pinball. And you are one of them, I'm glad that you found my channel and that we can talk about something we both enjoy very much. As always, *Hugs!* Also, congratulations on your awesome score for Indiana Jones, very impressive!
