Over the last few years I've been getting further away from sears tractors after buying a compact tractor and excavator but I think it's amazing how well built and versatile those old sears are. Really takes work and know-how to keep them and the attachments in proper working order. I'm glad folks like you still do it. Those machines have something a brand new $25,000 compact tractor will never have.......character.

Look for air leaks in the intake too- I goop mine up with RTV around the seam. Try the old points and see if that helps- if you still have them

If you changed the points I would go there first. Make sure timing is right. Make sure plug gap is right then fuel. Sounds like it's spitting so most likely timing. Spin the points. You can spray some starter fluid in carb and see if that changes it. If it does it could be fuel. Make sure gas is fresh also. Crappy ethanol fuel goes bad in about three months so if it's been sitting it could be bad.
