    There are a few supermarkets in Barrio Chino as well as some random health food stores scattered around like Zoja Market in Palermo which sell tofu, TVP, and other vegan/vegetarian items, as well as a lot of imported stuff that you won't find in the regular supermarkets (Asian, Mexican, etc). Granted, the prices are crazy right now and even moreso for anything imported. Hopefully everything will level out at some point so that it's affordable for both locals and visitors alike.

      @@missmomus oh yes, you’re right! I did come across some tofu when I ventured over to Barrio Chino once and the health food stores did have more options outside of beans 🤭 the prices just weren’t my favorite. I hope things level out soon as well. Thanks for sharing!

    it's interesting how everyone's exeperience can be so different! I feel like Rio was a saving grace for me. Had I only experienced Floripa, my opinon of Brazil would have been so different. I commented my full opinion in under the pinned comment. I could see myself living in Rio for a couple years because I want to become fluent in Portuguese. I'm sorry it was difficult for you! I hope you feel there's wisdom you took from the time though at least. As slow travelers, it's never easy when you realize a place just isn't for you, so your resilience is commendable. I will say I do understand what some Afro-brazilians commented. Equating Black spirtual traditions with demonic/spirtual attack is deeply unfortunate when (white) Christianity is one of the most violent religions on Earth. It was interesting that seeing the orishas aka sculptures in the image of Black women made you uncomfortable seeing Black spirtuality in Brazil brought me so much joy!

    We missed you Ari! Multiple income streams is important! working a remote job is risky bc most places you technically cant "live" abroad.. you can get away with "extending traveling/vacationing" as long as you clock in and have secure internet access but even then, some applications may not work even with a VPN.. plus you can get fired like that then what?.. i always tell people to have 6 months saved and continually fill out applications/interview bc you just never know. but who wants to live with the fear/anxiety? it's a price to pay for earning USD, being able to be nomadic and see the world. Having multiple incomes will alleviate the stress bc if you are let go, you have additional sources of income.

    • @Ariventuras
      @Ariventuras 23 дня назад

      🥰 yes multiple income streams is a must to truly have the freedom to live anywhere. And keeping an eye out for other opportunities is great advice. My “remote” job did fire me and I learned it all the hard way 🫠 but grateful for the experience nonetheless and the backups I had put in place (savings, investments, language skills). Thanks for watching <3

    • @Ariventuras
      @Ariventuras Месяц назад

      As far as the IRS is concerned I do "live" in the US 😂the company certainly knew my value - that's how I got permission to go in the first place. No, they didn't have to know where I worked from, but transparency is something I value and the path I decided to take. My pay continued growing over the two years I traveled so that really has nothing to do with anything.

    I switched from W2 employees to contractors for this very reason. Most of my people were remote and during the pandemic a lot of them decided to work from international locations. My company was "young and dumb" at that time... Until I found out that there's territorial restrictions depending on where they work from and domicile issues. So, I would be responsible for paying taxes of all of those territories, which I really didn't have a problem with, but the compliance end is a nightmare (especially for EU countries). A lot of countries also required I register and have an office location there if my employees are working from there longer than a certain period of time. It also caused a big headache for domestic taxes. I have AMAZING employees, so the only way I was able to keep them was to offer to let them work as a contractor to the company. BEST MOVE EVER! It's a win-win for everyone involved. ... But I do understand corporate America's reasoning for not allowing employees to work offshore. Best of luck to you on your new journey. If you ever decide to take on contract work, just reach out

    • @Ariventuras
      @Ariventuras Месяц назад

      @@paperbagmarketinggroup I love that you pivoted to find a solution that works for both the company and your employees. I wish more employers would take that approach...or at least try. While I do understand tax obligations play a role, the company I worked for was international (forgot to mention in the video) and has offices in the EU and other regions. This was just an unfortunate case of cutting the “easiest targets” before they did the massive layoffs they were planning to do anyway. The entire department I worked under is completely gone now 🙃 nonetheless I really appreciate your comment and will keep your offer about contract work in mind. Thank you!!

    I think the African walking tour was perhaps a bit biased. There are no segregated neighbourhoods in Portugal. There are however social project neighbourhoods with free or low rent where many people with low wages live. Also admit that the Catholic church used to crush other religions. But it was not specific to the African Community. It was against ALL other religions.

    It's most likely compliancy reasons. It puts the company at risk to have employees abroad. Pretty much all usa companies however a select few, aren't allowed to have employees abroad especially handling customer data and tax reasons. That's why people don't tell. If those countries wanted to, they could sue your company for lost taxes. Edit: also even f they knew, they most likely received new information or saw another company get in trouble for having remote employees. I'm in tech as well as an engineer. I have personally seen negative consequences of being remote or having remote employees. It's best to relocate to another country and apply in their job market.

      I'm not sure if I mentioned this but the company was international with offices in multiple other countries outside of the US. So I there was no added risk because they already had employees abroad. Plus if it was a compliancy issue why would they still fire the one individual who returned to the US? 🤔 In the end, this was just an easy way to start the mass layoffs they already had in mind to do anyway. Corporations care about money, not people. It's best to be self-employed and have multiple streams of income.

    working abroad at a cheaper cost of living country as a US citizen working fully remotely for a US company is the ultimate cheat code to life currently. it is the cheat code to the matrix, literally

      Yes working remotely for a US company has monetary perks. Sometimes it puts happiness at stake though. I think the cheat code is to live purposefully - however that looks to you.

      @@Ariventuras if you have money and cant be happy, you got other things to focus on. live purposefully and be on the brink to go homeless and see how that is a cheat code

      Nope, I completely lost interest in working for a company. I'm working on my own streams of income online as well as an alternative plan for making money. I'll be sharing an update soon - stay tuned :)
