Barbara Cooney's wonderful children's books have blessed my children, and now my grandchildren. What a beautiful legacy Ms. Clooney leaves. Our favourite book is Miss Rumphius.

What a good good writer

I read The Outsiders in one day, I remember being in the car reading while my dad and I were driving late home and I was making the most of the traffic and outside lamp lights and when we got home I didn't stop until I'd finished. It's a short read you might say but I wasn't much into reading. I'll never forget how attached I felt to the character's emotions

Ms. Hinton is unquestionably the most underappreciated writer of all time. It's one thing to be capable of quality prose. It is quite another for that prose to have impacted so many people, from so many places for so many years.

I randomly found The Outsiders novel of her and I fell in love with it; I became interested in her other novels too. All thanks to her.

SE Hinton… Outisiders was the first book I ever read. I was 18. In fact the book taught me how to read …..because I related so intimately with the characters and So I had to persevere … I feel deeply for the internet generation that can’t fuck up , even slightly, without a life long record of personal human fallibility…. but not even that….. Your books and my life were in a time before this terrible circumstance. Fabulous. Thank you.

I read 3 of her books as a teenager.. never knew s.e. hinton's gender until now.

Loved Outsiders, Tex and TWTTIN, but my favorite book of S.E. Hinton's is and always will be Rumble Fish. This taut book says so much in its 144 pages, and the fact such a young person (think she was 25 or 26 when she wrote this one) can write such intriguing characters and set such a dark and foreboding tone is astonishing. Always hoped she would write another novel or two like this one. I think a lot of us have known people like this in our time.

One of my favorite books ever! Loved her cameo in the movie. Loved the movie itself. I remember explaining the themes of “The Outsiders” to my little sister who had to write a book report, and I told her that some of the characters were victims of circumstance.

I had the privilege of having Richard Peck as my 10th grade English teacher at Hunter College High School. He was not only a writer, as many people have known him, but a wonderful and inspiring teacher.

I adored Richard. My husband and I heard him speak at the New York Society Library, and I turned to Rob and said, "I'm in love!" We invited him to dinner forthwith and we treasured his friendship and literary advice. I only wish we'd met him earlier. Glad to "meet" his eloquent sister and to hear Sophie's tribute. ❤ ❤
