Robert Clayson, Marimba June Bug by Andrew Smit is a fantastic and underrated piece for learning beating spots on the marimba, as there are several instances where the performer must navigate some notes that are very close together.

Welcome back to the “Writing Show Music for Battery Percussion Series”. In the previous video, we started writing “The Worst Ballad Ever” for a college level drumline. As always, I try to make these videos with both percussionists and non-percussionists in mind, so hopefully there is something for everybody in this video! In this episode, we will finish “The Worst Ballad Ever”. TIMESTAMPS: 00:0...

Welcome back to the “Writing Show Music for Battery Percussion Series”. In the previous video, we wrote “The Worst Ballad Ever” for a beginning drumline and explored what I call drumset style writing. In this video, we are going to continue our work with “The Worst Ballad Ever”, except this time we are going to write it for a college level drumline (with no drumset style parts). As always, I tr...

Welcome back to the “Writing Show Music for Battery Percussion Series”! In the previous 9 episodes, we've worked out way through two charts: one that I think is a good example of an opener and one that I think is a good example of a closer. In this episode, I will talk a little bit about what I call "drum set style" writing for beginning battery in a ballad (the worst ballad ever written) and t...

Robert Clayson, Marimbas Written in 2020-2021, this piece is the musical depiction of the question "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" This recording is certainly not perfect, but it does bring the piece out of finale for the world. to see. This piece is scheduled to be published by Wildlight Publications. Welcome back to the Writing Show Music for Battery Percussion Series Episode 9! In this episode, we are finishing "RACE!". In this series, we will be writing for what I call an “intermediate ” level battery to help answer a question I get quite often: "What do I write for a group of really good intermediate players looking to get to the next level?" Even though this part of the series will be g...

Nicely done, Robert! Thanks for playing and recording the piece. It's always a pleasure to see other folks enjoying my music.
I played this for my solo and ensemble audition, and I got a one. Such a beautiful, and highly underrated piece.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so happy you enjoyed the piece.
Love all the variation in editing techniques. Cool piece too!
I really enjoy this piece. When is this available for purchase?
It’s super sweet to see you compose such a beautiful piece 😊 and thanks for doing it on a 4.3 for the majority of us that don’t have a 5 octave.
This blew my mind like actually how the hell does one have the talent. And the control he has. 🥲
Thank you for your kind words!
Thank you so much for posting most of your solos, my band teacher bought your music and it's helping me chose my song with being able to hear them played 🙏
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you enjoy.
You should come marching snare with josh and mason, yeah Robby!!!!!!!
Sounds great!
Thank you for listening and for your kind words!
Very groovy!
Thank you for your kind words!
so beautiful! I love this.❤❤❤ Where can I get sheet music?
Thank you for your kind words! The music is currently under exclusivity with the commissioning party, but will be sent to a publisher soon!
@@RobertClayson Thank you so much for your reply. I look forward to the publication.
I never figured out that diddles part with none playback.. thanks a lot
do you have the score?
If you search for Joey Eng Music in google, the score is available on his website.
Great job..👍
Very glad youtube keeps recommending me unwatched music content, keep up the good work Robert.
Thank you for your kind words!
Why is that thing so fucking big
YUH 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐀🐀🏕️🏕️🔥🔥
Yo Robert this one went crazy
first
Could you provide some info on how you recorded the audio? Looking to start recording with a mint marimba one 4000 series board I just recently picked up, but have no clue about any audio engineering stuff haha.
Ayo rob you ate Ngl
Is this the same room and instrument with Kevin Bobo's videos?
Yes- this is professor Bobo's office at Indiana University. However, I think for his videos he plays on a much older (and much better sounding) malletech. When I was there, he had two in his office- his personal one and one for the school.
Can you share with me sheets of this transcription?
Hello! The piece is in the public domain- I'm sure you can purchase it somewhere, but I got it from IMSLP
Fantastic! Thank you
Thank you for your kind words!
Beautifully played 😊
Thank you for your kind words!
That is wonderful!
Thank you for your kind words!
This really helps for a passion project of mine
I'm one of mr wards students and I love this music
Great piece, Robbie!
Very minecraft of you
What did u use to make the cadence
Thanks for your comment! I use Finale Notation Software and Virtual Drumline to do all of my writing.
Beautiful!
Thank you for yoru kind words!
The way you can write without listening back is amazing. Do you happen to have the music at the end as to where I can download it? I think we might have the new cadence we were looking for
Thank you for your kind words! What is a good email for you?
what mallets did you use for this piece?
what is an estimated date on when this piece will available for purchase?
Is this for sale? And what level of player is recommended for this piece?
Thanks for your comment! It is currently in the process of being published by C-Alan Publications!
Do advance cadences please 🙏
Hi! I'm working on something similar to that topic right now.. It's not about cadences specifically, but more about what I think about when I am writing for a more advanced group. Hopefully it will be out before the end of December!
Great work. Can you post Solo 17 from that book? Solo 18?
thank you for making this! i wasnt sure if i was playing right and i had to do it for a percussion video assignment and this really helped! :)
Thanks for your kind words!
What a great sound in line I played snare at Troy state 1987 with drum instructor Sam Frederick very talented guy
Thank you for your kind. words! Sam Frederick is actually still at Troy, teaching Music Appreciation
What kind of mallets do you recommend for this piece?
Thanks for your comment! For this video, I used the Innovative Percussion Mark Ford Series. I believe an 812 in the bass and then three 813's.
what is the website you use
Not exactly sure what you mean. I didn't really use a website for any of this. Here is a list of stuff I used: Finale 25 (notation software) IMovie (video editing) Quicktime (screen capture) Garageband (audio editing) I did use www.canva.com to create the thumbnail for the video, but that's the only website I can think of that I used when making this video. I hope that helps!
