HAMMER-ON Exercises That Will Rock Your World! | 3 min Practice Routine | Hammer-on Guitar Lesson
In this lesson James gives you tips on how to play Hammer-ons and gives you 3 Hammer-on exercises to practice it every day.
A Hammer on is where you pick one note then afterwards place another finger of the fretting hand yielding another note without it being picked. The finger doing the hammering needs to hit the new note with a significant amount of force to get a clean note.
All three of these hammer on exercises should be practiced for a minute each and become part of your practice routine for the foreseeable future. This movement needs to be played over and over and over again to get the mu...

I've always played the c chord like this. Just like it.
Yeah its an old school thing to do. It depends on what I'm playing as to weather i use it or not. I find it works really well in Creedence Clearwater Revival songs! Thanks for checking my stuff out! J
I've a suggestion for you m8, have a go at Rory's "For the last time".
Ill have a look at it Kenny, Thanks for watching!
It would be nice if you could put the notes on 5 line staff with a clef next to it! Usually I can't follow these but for some reason I can follow this fine. Thank You, AW
@@dynamicalan I could as I make the notation for each lesson. I find the more cluttered it is, the harder it is to follow. I also have to take into consideration how much of the close up of the guitar I want to sacrifice for the music. Thanks for the feedback and I’m glad you got your fingers round it. J
Thank you !!!!!!
@@richardhowell6123 thanks for watching 🎸🤘
I grew up in England, but I've been in NZ for yonks. I can't pick an accent as well as I used to be able to. Screaming tinnitus 24/7 does not help I guess. I'll wager it's south Yorkshire, or somewhere on the M62 or so. I was chuffed when I learned this tune. Rory was so great. Playing the tune got old fast though. The fun is in improvising on it, but then I begin straying from the melody and forget it -- so have to refresh my memory and also the proper technique so it sounds more Rory-ish, instead of like Viv Campbell with Dio. I found a nice backing track that'll do quite nicely. Have a pint of bitter for me. Actually nah. That stuff is effing horrible. Southerner. Really far south these days. Cheers.
@@aquilarossa5191 thanks for checking my lesson out! Your not wrong! I’m between Huddersfield and Barnsley 🎸

Great video. Really hope you're channel takes off. My only feedback as a viewer would be to have the solo played at the beginning of the video
@@bencoles2462 thanks for the feedback Ben. I record the videos in one take so I would have to look into how to make this work. Leave it with me
Another great lesson James . Many thanks
Thanks for the continued support Peter it’s much appreciated 🎸
that very last bit (15:05) is easier starting on the 4th strg 5th fret and slid to the 9th fret then 3rd st 7 fret, using 1st and 2nd fingers Django Reinhardt style, is much more fluid being slurred. and you don't go out of the starting tone position it maybe a little easier to play as the 4th strg 5th fret too the 3rd open are the same a trill, down, down, up .. and with a two finger slur easy pease.. P.S. maybe do the full rhythm guitar and the 🔑 changes in a learner cheat sheet it would be a grand project to give to us lazy sods a tasty something to bite into. yes I've wasted many an hour on this tune many years ago but but... and but now all annoyingly, now nearly forgotten, my memory now moth eaten and threadbare.
This is a brilliant tutorial. Keep em coming!
Thanks for the feedback :) Lots more to come!
Thanks again James.
Thanks for watching. I’ll catch you on Monday 🎸
love your explanations 1 bar at at a time. As someone who has always wanted to learn guitar the thing that has held me back is knowing where to put my fingers and what shape to use with my hand. it means if trying to learn on my own i get caught in a note rush where i am trying to lift and move fingers all over the place and i get in a panic and miss notes. even on simple riffs.
@@Jamiesneddon thanks Jamie I hope it’s helping you. In my one to one lessons I use 2 post it notes and break it into even smaller chunks for students that get overwhelmed when there too much going on. I even do it in my own practice still. I have been practicing a Johnny Marr riff this week and it’s been doing my head in! Stick with it dude it will come! J
Brilliant bro 👍🏴🎸👍

My brotha! First video I've seen of yours, i loved it man!! Pulling out the ol strat right now haha
Welcome aboard! Can’t beat a Strat. I have another one with a maple neck that will probably make an appearance soon! Thanks for watching dude and I hope you got your fingers around it! J🎸
Great video
Catch you Wednesday dude 🤘
Great lesson James but i prefer learning no cord tabs like your Gary Moore one. Not been playing too long but just turning 60 wished started earlier, i cant play cords i struggle with arthritis in my hands.
Chords are an uphill battle but all of a sudden it will just click. Stick with it even if it’s just for a few mins of each practice session cycling through chords you will thank yourself later down the line. Thanks for the continued support J🎸
At my age James I just look for songs with tabs and quite happy with that. Only home player. Cheers for the reply and brilliant channel, hope it takes off for you. Most videos on RUclips show you how to play songs but hardly tell you how to get the sound for them. You show yours in a brilliant way and I am sure if you did a section on getting the sound too it would put you way above the rest and get more subscribers. All the best Peter
Really love working on this, the b7 is still tricky so will try your tip of doing one strum to the bar till my muscle memory catches up😊
Keep at it Lou it will come

Really happy I found your channel. You actually show us how to play some great tunes, without going into all the music theory that most others do! 😊
Thanks for checking me out. Theory is important but very much on a need to know basis in my lessons. Keep an eye on the channel I have a video planned about theory that hopefully won’t make your head hurt! Thanks again James
Good video hope you do good 👍

Thanks for checking it out 🎸
Definitely gonna try this one!
I love that you make this real. It takes 12 months. NO online course wants you to believe that. I also like that you mentioned people come out of those courses, not knowing how to play 50 chords in 50 minutes or whatever it is, feeling like they are the problem. Well said. I'm just at week 7 now and all I can think is, I need to keep practicing, and eventually it will get better and easier and more enjoyable. Really good video. New player, new sub! Cheers.
Hi Rob, Thanks for checking my stuff out. I do think its a massive problem. I'm not saying i wont do any courses in the future but if i do they will be packed full of content with a no bs approach and make no promises i can't keep. This part of learning to play is really hard! stick with it keep showing up and it will all fall into place when its supposed to. Keep at it dude!
Really interesting and helpful video ! Thank you for sharing !
