There's a bed in/near zoras domain (near where divine beast vah ruta) and link can sleep in it. It doesn't seem link owns the bed, and theres no one there to show its an inn. So, sadly, your statement about him able to sleep in the bed, because its his, doesnt quite work ): or maybe the bwd doesnt work in totk, but i know it works in botw

One big disappointment I recently have with ToTK is that Link is not a Sage. No, this doesn't count Ultrahand, Ascend and Fuse because let's be honest. Those abilities are for the gameplay purposes only, nothing about the story. Now sure, you can kinda say Recall kinda makes Link another Sage of Time, but not only Link doesn't contain a Secret Stone, but its disappointing that he doesn't have any light powers that doesn't involve the Master Sword. Like you're telling me that when Link enters the Temple of Time and touches that Secret Stone, he doesn't become the new Sage of Light? I'm sorry to say this to Aonuma, but come on!

The fact that the Triforce is just nonexistent in this game and replaced with Secret Stones which seem way more vague in their powers than the Triforce always confused me. Hell, they could have easily use the fact Ganondorf gaining the Triforce of Power as a reason to why he believes it's his right to rule and will not bow to a Zonai like Rauru. You could even flesh out his backstory wherein he earned the Triforce of Power via trials and hardships by uniting the Gerudo during times of hardship and whatnot, ie wielding his power and authority in a way that basically made him worthy of gaining the Triforce of Power and then have that Grace given to him by the heavens steadily corrupt his mindset over the years where he thinks it is his God-given right to be the true ruler of the world because the Triforce chose him.

Considering the time gap between BOTW and TOTK and some of the Japanese wording in TOTK which references to Link being Zelda's lover (said by Zelda) it's more than reasonable to believe that Zelda and Link are lovers or even married by the time we begin TOTK

Maybe I need to become an isekai protagonist that can't die, but who can suffer, and both the gods and demons get a kick out of making me learn to be whoever the bbeg is. But also are all totally aware and break the 4th wall and have like Senku level powers of keeping track of things, until I can beat Zelda Breath and Zelda Tears. The game being a bad timeloop has really weird implications all over the place... Especially because TotK argues that Light Dragon Zelda has just... always been there since the ancient past. Why did she never intervene in any of the numerous Calamities? Why has no one ever seen her before the Upheaval? You could argue that she's been busy and/or focused on her task, but like the *second* Dragondorf pops out, she is on him in an instant. You're telling me she wouldn't go fight a big spectral pig at the drop of a hat too?

That Dragon Tears quest isn't supposed to be done until near the end of the game and you have to fight with Dragon aka Zelda at the end

Zelda's transformation back from her dragon state is genuinely one of the worst story beats in the franchise. Unearned, contradicts established continuity, undermines the theme, and pull nonsensical bullshit. A definitive asspull. How do you fix this?? Simple. Have a good ending and bad ending. Bad ending: Link beats Ganondorf, but Zelda doesn't transform back and instead flies away never to be seen again. Good ending, Link beats every main quest, which then leads Impa to discover information about a way to restore Zelda's human form: by finding the only artifact in the series that could reasonably do such a thing and is CONVENIENTLY MISSING FROM THIS GAME. Have Link find the motherfucking Triforce to reverse Zelda's draconification. Yeah, that might require a few more main quests and another dungeon or two, but this game desparately needs that. Then boom, initiate a significantly harder boss fight with Ganondorf, have him grapple for the Triforce, beat him with Zelda's help, badabing, badaboom, ending fixed.

If the top question on your mind was “how involved was Zelda going to be” I honestly question the validity of any of this video, that being said I think the story was boring and I hate Zelda’s voice in this game so she could’ve not been in it at all and that would be fine, the story was boring as shit anyway

I remember after the 2019 teaser, I thought the plot would revolve around Zelda dying and the main plot would be Link fighting desperately to find a way to go back in time to fix that. When we got a look at the recall ability in the trailers, I was certain that was the narrative focus of the story. The game being called Tears of the Kingdom cemented my thoughts as it would be about Hyrule in disrepair after the death of their Queen. Sadly, none of that happened

Haters! Obviously it’s all about Zelda because she is literally THE PRINCESS of Hyrule 😂 She’s not just some girl down from the candy shop. Lmao. It is their duty as warriors to protect her and the kingdom. Not really hard to understand people.

As someone who loved BotW, but quit halfway through TotK for many of the same reasons as you (though in my case the biggest cause was the railroading and linearity forced upon the open world), this little series of videos has been very fulfilling to see someone else share that experience.

Its pretty clear they need to do something else story wise. Like why did we need to use the master sword? It was absolutely terrible in game. Also Ganondorf is so overplayed, its boring. Like go back and remake oot or something this game just isnt it.

For me, even though I agree with all of this, what really takes me out of the story is Links lack of reactions to everything around him. I mean, this story is so deeply connected with him specifically, something he cares so much about, and yet he never does anything. He doesnt cry, he doesnt get upset, he doesnt become happy or sad at any point. It feels like... The opposite of rewarding. And its not like Nintendo can't make Link expressive in a dramatic way. I think part of why Skyward Swords story is so impactful all the way through is because Link CARES, the stakes are high, not just for the world but for him personally, and he constantly shows it. Totk has the best story in any Zelda game but somehow manages to make it feel like it has very little impact. Nintendo wants an open world story game but doesnt want the dynamism that it comes with.

You to dive more into every Zelda game to actually understand the lore of gannondwarf and his motives.

I'm overall just really dissapointed with how nintendo handled the story here, ESPECIALLY when seeing how much potential it had. It's still a really great game, sure, but SO MANY things just really made me see better possible ways they could have implemented them. (like the sage cutscenes at the end of a dungeon, the dragon tears quest potentially spoiling the game for you, and most importantly you finding out about Zelda's fate DOING NOTHING for the story!) Of course I still enjoyed the game, just so sad that it could have been so much more...
