Apparently J R R Tolkien based Treebeard's speech patterns on Lewis's speaking voice. I seems to me that his voice less booming than Tolkien perceived it to be. Regardless I like his voice.

I wish people today had such eloquent objections to Faith as Lewis was responding to. It seems to me that we (my former self included) reject Christ due to misconceptions from ignorance rather than actual doubt.

It's tragic we lost the rest of these wonderful talks, but God seems to prefer the well chosen written word over the spoken word. It seems counterintuitive but the key is WELL CHOSEN. We can over analyze tone and inflection but if we pick our words carefully they are the most effective way to get ideas out of one head and into another. I sat down with a copy of Mere Christianity once and tried to highlight the best parts. I found I was highlighting 90% of the book and gave up! Truly Lewis was gifted for his time and ours and fulfilled his calling faithfully.

I love how he says things like “You see the point” and “We needn’t wonder” because he’s trusting his audience. He’s not holding their hand patronizingly. It helps bring them in. I also like how he possibly uses his present circumstances as well with the dirty rifle analogy, as he himself was a soldier and this broadcast was made in World War II. I think it helps the analogy stay relevant to the present day too.

Section 4 - chapter 3 “Time and Beyond Time” of Mere Christianity. This is a gem - he’s reading the talks that he would later publish as Mere Christianity - probably the greatest work of Christian apologetics of the 20th century if not the greatest since Paul.

I feel so blessed to be able to hear CS Lewis's voice in this wonderful recording! Thank you for posting it! He had a beyond marvelous way of drawing people who thirst for God, including me, deeper into God's magnificent Life. What a balm and encouragement his words must have been to war-ravaged England.

Hope all is well with you and maybe it’s time to jump back into the fray and start making videos again. I came for the CS Lewis recordings and stayed for this argument. It did not disappoint.

I love in Voyage of the Dawn Treader when Aslan tells Lucy after she asks "when is soon" and he says "I call all times soon". Seriously C.S. Lewis could put more wonderful theology in a simple statement in a so called "children's book" than most seminary professors can in their whole careers these days. What a great treasure this man has been for Christians for generations now.

Not just that but the Holy Spirit our own soul which is an extension of God much like cells are an extension of other cells are in everybody so God is with us and listening to us every step of the way. God is one but at the same time also a stream of consciousness everywhere and in everything throughout all time. But mostly God is love - we come from love. Jesus came to teach two things. That we are eternal and that we are love as is God whom we are extension of as is all that is. It doesn’t matter what the religion or the words used to describe faith - God is listening to us. 💖🦋🧘‍♀️♾✨ I see miracles everyday so I have no doubt many of the teachings I’ve learned from Abraham Hicks, the best teachers of the law of attraction (often described as the golden rule or turning the other cheek among other things) are true - and they say that prayer is most effective when in appreciation and when in complete trust that it is already answered. If we continue to ask it just holds the divine solution away longer but if we surrender to God and trust blessings and miracles (which are natural) will find their way to us more easily and sooner. 💖

It's 2023 and I am finding this wartime upper middle class gentleman explain God and time in the same exact manner in which I myself often do. No wonder this guy is so very appreciated beyond his more well known publications. And his way, too, of seeing that balance between what I call the "outer work", and the "inner work". For, as the Book of Proverbs says "do not bless from the cup, but from the overflow thereof". Meaning we must prepare, strengthen, sharpen up, educate, and edify ourselves that we might have strengths to help othersaround us. I'd love to hear or read more of his more metaphysical thoughts on time and God from the perspective of eternity. It kinda puts us in our place (in a beautiful manner, and not a demanding way), and reminds us, that though some of our "fixed" boundaries of our shared reality is much more fluid and plastic from an eternal and infinite perspective. Any thing IS possible when it combines with the flow and will of that greater current which time tries to describe in its limited way to us amd with us. I loved how he saw the problem of suffering (portrayed beautifully in the movie Shadowlands) amd in effect he drew many parallels with how Judaism sees the same. Especially in his suggestion that pain, and suffering in the basic day to day sense, is part of God pushing us towards growing up, amd dealing with it all or we'd just stay still. Which is wonderful in that it bridges a major apparent gulf between how Judaism and Christianity see the Adam and Eve story. Jack (C.S. Lweis) whether he was aware or not, actually described there, what I usually only hear Jewish teachers and many rabbis (especially Hasidic) say when they describe the human descent into suffering and how we an learn to see it am employ it rather than run away looking for a living analgesic solution.

I love Mr.Lewis his books and writings express such clear, intellectual thoughts distilled into entertaining stories or speeches. It’s always a wonderful joy to read a passage from his books, with his charming sharp tongue eliciting much happiness and humour. I appreciate his adherence to the Truth, it has clarified my own misconceptions concerning Christianity.
