Filmed 9th October - readying for sale. Might have to wait until spring '15 - probably not too many buyers around as we run up to Christmas. Bike had not been started for a couple of days and started first time - apparently this was just lucky and it never normally does that. Normally at least two kicks. One of the comments below says it is actually a G80S as it have a sprung rear end.

Lawrence has this 1923 BSA 500cc bike that we know hasn't been started for fifteen years - but looking at it probably hasn't run for fifty - it had wooden brakes. He's taken it to bits since mid-Dec and tonight the previous owner came over and said Lawrence probably had the bits to try and start it.

Love anything 1920s !! My grandfather had a very similar BSA, only his was an ohv variant. He paid £59 for it in 1924.👍

The Matchless G80/AJS Model 18 is on my bucket list to own. I love these bikes. Currently, I need to do some work on my ‘66 Norton N15CS so that I can ride it regularly.
Beautiful , is the valve train noise unavoidable? Do you set the tappets tight after rebuild?
I was with the owner (pictured) this afternoon and he said yes this is very much exactly how they always sound. He said tappets should never be tight - should be set correct but loose tappets are preferable to overly tight. Tight tappets can cause wear or damage. He did not rebuild this particular bike engine though and the bike was sold shortly after this video was shot, several years ago now.
On my G80 iron head , tappets are set to zero , it's in the manual.

my mate had one of these in 1964 cost £10 we put an old AA sidecar chassis and box on it , we used to go fishing on it back then , Oh such carefree days

Hi, I just remenber that mechanic told me that he replaced the transmission chain guide inside motor.

The owner (chap on the bike here) did actually sell that bike - probably spring 14 actually. I shall add your comment to the title though as we clearly did not know that at the time. Thanks.
