Wonderful Life (Black cover)
The song was written and originally recorded by English singer-songwriter Black (real name Colin Vearncombe) for his 1987 debut album, Wonderful Life. It was first released as a single in 1986 and peaked at number 72 on the UK Singles Chart. It peaked at number 8 on its second release in August 1987, also becoming a top-10 hit in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
I've been revisiting this song on acoustic guitar, but decided to create my own synth-pop arrangement.

The song was written and originally recorded by Mark Tranmer and Roger Quigley of the British duo The Montgolfier Brothers. It appeared on their debut album Seventeen Stars released in May 1999. David Gilmour covered the song on his album Luck and Strange, released on 6 September 2024, where it featured his daughter Romany on lead vocals and harp.

Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House cover): LIVE Sunday morning rehearsal

Just captured this during a Sunday morning rehearsal. The cooler weather meant I could open the front door so that the kitties could look out the screen door 😺😺😺 The song was written by Neil Finn and released in October 1986 as the fourth single from the band's self-titled debut studio album.
Chihuahua (Bow Wow Wow cover)
Просмотров 160Месяц назад
I tweaked the lyric a little for the benefit of Mr. Fox :) The song was written by Matthew Ashman, Leigh Gorman, David Barbarossa, and Malcolm McLaren. It originally appeared on Bow Wow Wow's debut 1981 album "See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!" and was released as a single in the UK in 1982. The band were formed in 1980, when former Sex Pistols manager...
Silver Lady (David Soul cover) LIVE REHEARSAL

Another live rehearsal video captured on the iPhone. Delving deep into my back catalogue, I rediscovered this gem. I was always intrigued by the song's unusual yet fluid key changes, and the evocative line: "The Indiana wind and rain cut through me." The song was written by Tony Macaulay and Geoff Stephens. It was originally released as a single by David Soul in 1977 when it reached number one ...
Wonderful Life (Black cover): LIVE REHEARSAL

I honestly captured this video in one attempt, and with one take, during a solo rehearsal, hence the occasional fluffs. But a very dear friend of mine has been encouraging me to work on this song and to try and do it justice. So, Courtney, this is for you! :) The song was written and originally recorded by English singer-songwriter Black (real name Colin Vearncombe) for his 1987 debut album, Wo...
John, I'm Only Dancing (David Bowie cover)

The song was originally released as a non-album single on 1 September 1972. It reached number 12 in the UK, but RCA refused to release it in the USA due to its suggestive lyrical content.
A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (Maschwitz/Sherwin)
Просмотров 1695 месяцев назад
"A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" is a British romantic popular song written in 1939 and published in 1940, with lyrics by Eric Maschwitz and music by Manning Sherwin. I had previously recorded and uploaded a MIDI-backed version of this song last year, having spent a long time creating my own MIDI keyboard arrangement based on the sheet music, only for it to sound like a cheesy karaoke ve...
Ultrafox (Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli cover, with my own lyric and vocal interpretation)
Просмотров 3246 месяцев назад
The original instrumental piece "Ultrafox" was recorded by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli (with Le Quintette du Hot Club de France) in Paris in 1935. The title was a play on the name of the record company ("Ultraphone") that released the recording. The piece's composition appears to be attributed to guitarist Django, though of course violinist Stéphane contributed his own improvised li...

"Ace of Wands" was a British children's television series that was broadcast between 1970 and 1972. Genial
Awesome cover of this amazing song!🔥Great vocals!👏👏
Thanks so much! I found the vocals rather challenging on this one!
@@BarleyC You sound fantastic! love this song.
@@ColourfulEnergy Much appreciated! :)
Wonderful performance Colin! You've nailed the 80's vibe here with this synth-pop arrangement and those vocals of yours are aces my friend! Nicely done!!!! Have a blessed week!
Thanks so much! :)
Great take Colin! We used to cover this tune in gothic metal style (wasn't so bad lol!) 👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@roqueavellaneda Thanks so much, Roque! That goth metal version must have been fun!
i love ur voice😻
Well done. Didn't think it possible to acoustically cover such a good song, but you've done it justice amigo. Great video
@@kevinfraser7 Thank you so much! I haven’t owned an electric guitar for some years, so it had to be acoustic!
This is so good Colin Really well done mate. 👍✨✨
Thank you so much, Paul!
I'd never heard the original but went over to David Gilmours you tube. What an absolutely amazing song✌️🎸
@@PAL-MUSIC-1 Yes, I heard it for the first time only recently, specifically the David Gilmour tour rehearsal video - it blew me away!
Beautifly done! Wonderful video!
Thanks so much, Steph! :)
Nice song and performance, Colin! Great job, my friend!🎸
Thanks so much, Xavi!
Now THIS is very special!! A lovely job mate. Well done young Colin! Regards, Dave
Thanks so much, Dave! The vocal was challenging, but I didn't want to lower the key any further :)
@@BarleyC 😊 You did well my friend. 👍🏻 Dave
you did it justice - i recall the show well.
Thanks so much! I tried my best to be faithful and respectful to the original.
Great song. Excellent performance! Very cool 👍👍
Thanks so much, Daniel!
An absolutely beautiful performance man, great work!!!!
@@ties_s Thank you so much! 😊
I love your heart colin
Beautiful song and lovely version, well done. The version I’m most familiar is with Prog Folk, Medieval band, “Gryphon”
Thanks so much, Peter! Yes, the Gryphon version had a big impact on me when I first heard it back in the 70s!
I put your video the Ace Of Wands Facebook page and everyone loves your version.Even Tarot himself,Michael Mackenzie !
Oh wow thanks so much! :) Deeply appreciated! Will check out FB for it...
Django rules! If he had 5 working fingers he would still be amazing, but the fact that he developed his own style AND had such a high level of skill with just TWO?! Mind blowing. I remember watching a documentary about him, for something like a decade or two after he died, he actually wasn’t particularly well known or at least not nearly on the (super deserved) pedestal he is now, which is just insane to me… makes you ponder how many incredible, unique musicians over the centuries we just don’t know about, maybe they never got music transcribed, or transcriptions got lost, or they didn’t get recorded once that was possible… but we’ve got Django!
Brilliant work Colin one of my favourite Gabriel tracks✨✨✨
Thanks so much, Paul! Yes, I just rediscovered it myself so began rehearsing to bring it back into my solo set!
so beautiful a rendition of this very special song - you make it look simple and captivating at the same time!!Bravo👍👍👍
Thank you so much! Deeply appreciated!
So intense lyrics from Mr.Gabriel. I have the German album which just throws you back to those crazy 1930's that set us all up for war. I love how you made it easy. You made it yours. You're very under the radar, but....they really loved Year of the Cat!!
Thanks, Jason! I just rediscovered this song from my older gigging days and decided to work it back into my updated solo setlist 🎸
@BarleyC do you do any Joe Jackson? There's a song called LOVE AT FIRST LIGHT that you could do great! I used to do it live, but my piano playing is atrocious.
@@JasongsMusic I’ve never played any Joe Jackson songs, maybe because I’m primarily a guitarist rather than pianist, but I’ll check that one out!
Oh come on you play piano beautifully. @BarleyC
Wonderful!
@@StephPackMusic Thanks so much, Steph!
Beautiful and fresh interpretation of this 80's stone cold classic! I've always loved this Crowded House gem, and you deliver it in fine style in this stripped down version. The sign of a truly sensational song, is that it holds water with just an acoustic and a vocal, and you my friend, show that it does. Great performance!
Thank you so much! Yes, it's one of my favorite songs, and a perfect one to end a gig with.
We use to do this live back in the 80's... nice job... Are you getting live gigs to play? Hope so. Very nice!😊
Thanks, Jason! I've been doing a promotion push recently, and have a solo private party gig scheduled for November, and an arts festival gig for the flute & guitar duo in January. More inquires are coming in, so hopefully will build up momentum!
@BarleyC always exciting to start a new projects...you get so into that push, especially if you have the equipment to play live & some nice places to play. When I played c.1980s , they gave ya food and drink unless they were bums. Lol.
@@JasongsMusic I used to gig regularly before lockdown, and I'm now trying to get back into the game. For my solo gigs, I'd be happy to play for Chewy e-gift cards! 😸
One of my fave ever songs mate. You did an excellent job on this (as you always do!) and I really enjoyed listening to it - especially your solo fill middle section, which was very clever. (I won’t mention the one insignificant fluffed note during the solo though! 😜😂😂 - I probably wouldn’t have noticed it but the expression on your face gave it away! 😂😂) Seriously though, pretty awesome throughout Colin. Well done my friend! 👍🏻 Regards, Dave
Thanks so much, Dave! One of my favorite songs, too. Thanks for not mentioning the fluffed note :) It was an impromptu capture, and I was otherwise happy with the spirit of it :)
@@BarleyC Seriously, it sounded great mate! I’ve never attempted the song - far to hard and technical for me, so all respect to you! Dave xx
This is one of my favorite songs! You are incandescent, Colin. Your songs often feel like being beckoned into a cabin in the woods and suddenly realizing it's a castle with sumptuously acoustic rooms -- simply lovely. It's renditions like this that strengthen my resolve that you are a star that shines brightly on your own and that you don't need a vocalist to support you. Do as the song says and walk to a beat of a drum to your heart. Don't dream it's over, Colin. There's so much more lovely melodies in your future. Forever, a fan.
@@Ryuchan22 Oh my thank you thank you! That means so much. It’s one of my favorite songs too, and when I get a gig, I often end with it. Still trying to walk to the beat of a drum, and my heart ❤️ Godblessyou ❤️
Love that description..
Nice one Colin! I liked this one when I was a kid... (Ten yo when it came out) Always found interesting the chord progression. 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much, Roque! Yes, I always loved Neil Finn's songwriting.
