Interesting video, thank you. I've only just found your channel, so haven't watched through your filmography yet. Im a LOT bigger than you; 5ft 10, 15 stones, 38 waist, 46 chest, & 17 inch collar, so im likely to have the opposite issues to you. Im looking to borrow Edwardian elements & integrated them into a Gothic/Vampire style. I know that's probably outside your wheelhouse, as it were, but do you have any tips?

One thing--you mentioned that the Edwardian era was before mass production. That is actually inaccurate. The Arts and Crafts Movement (think William Morris fabrics) predated the Edwardian era and was a reaction to the mass production that was occurring in England in the mid 1800s. He, and others, were proponents of the medieval guild system where trained craftsmen dictated and enforced industry standards along with training apprentices. The Victorians also introduced chemical dyes which gave them the saturated, deep, and "unnatural" colors previously either impossible or so expensive only royalty could afford. The Arts and Crafts movement softened and lightened the Victorian color palette, which grew lighter yet under the Edwardian design aesthetic.

There are plenty of modern ways to reproduce the old silhouette either through reproductions or custom clothing.

I’ve already incorporated some of your great ideas regarding pictures etc. My house is more 1920’s because that is when my grandparents got their furniture. They called it Pigeon Breast style, those with a small bust would wear extra ruffles in that area. I like the embroidered unicorn one, made me chuckle a little.

I like the bunny pillow, coat hanger and the large Titanic picture the most, I think I have that same Pooh Bear you have in the hat, I also love the pictures, I have many Cabinet Cards, photos, a couple of tin types and I just bought a Daguerreotype in a nice case, the the case is kind of falling apart it was $45, but there was a super nice one for $75, but couldn't justify buying the more expensive one, the only type I think I'm missing now is just the Ambrotype, which I have seen other places but not in my town. If people are looking for antique photographs, the Tin Types, Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes cost the most anywhere from $40-$100 or more, if you are on a budget look for Cabinet Cards, they are anywhere from $1-$15, depending where you shop or copies of them work too.

My house is decorated in Victorian/ Edwardian/ little bit of Cottage Core thrown in. I came to see what your designs were like, I love to watch other people's styles in the same bracket at mine to see if there is something different they have done compared to mine and get ideas. The biggest thing is if people study those time periods, study antiques it is easier to spot the Era and I've noticed so many people think the Victorian and Edwardian time periods are exactly the same thing, I bought gloves that are silk, embossed with decoration lines but they have snaps from 1908( which is a year I find pops up often in my life) but they were marked Victorian, they are Edwardian and fairly almost in the middle to the end of the Edwardian Era. Anyhow looking, finding and buying these things takes years and you eventually get an eye for it, the only one that sort of throw me off is vintage Avon, they do a fairly good job of recreation, so if you can't afford antiques things that mimic are just as good, better to go authentic antiques, but if you can't there are many good reproductions or inspired by the Eras.

Bro... don't waste people's money on this. Invest it in something that will increase the value of it over time; we literally don't need college anymore, so if you don't have a scholarship, then don't get yourself in debt that you'll have to pay with a horrible work (because most works are not what we expect) for the next 20-30 years of your life. Get to work and make a life for yourself, you don't need to waste 3 to 5 years of your life to learn topics that you could very well learn on the internet by yourself if you really wanted to. SPECIALLY FOR SOMETHING LIKE HISTORY, MATE... If it was a degree in which you NEED a college title, like medicine, then yeah go ahead, BUT HISTORY?!?!?

This guy's a sweetie pie, but he's incorrect when he says antiques are "really expensive". All except Mid Century Modern and the decades following that have plummeted, especially "brown furniture". You will be able to get genuine Edwardian era furniture and some accessories for less than new Ikea and furniture stores if you check out antique shops, thrift stores, junk shops, tag and estate sales, auctions. There has never been a better time to buy!

Classic frontier and Wahmaker make solid High waisted fishtail trousers for a working class impression, only knit pick is the cut is very slim with a taper, something that canvas trousers shouldn't have you'll need to buy them 4 sizes up, I have a 36 inch waist and wear a size 40. Their nice and loose with that silhouette

Bespoke tailoring predated the Edwardian era. Industrial manufacturing was a new phenomenon in the Victorian era. Many women made the family clothing up through the 70s and there were many tailors and seamstresses who constructed made to fit clothing. It is an error to assume that bespoke clothing is a new phenomenon, when it was quite common throughout history (and still is in poor countries where manufactured clothing is imported and therefore costly), There are many books on clothing construction, pattern guides, etc, from the Victorian era and into the 20th century. In the series Little House on the Prairie, Laura Ingalls Wilder describes her mother making "bespoke" clothing, and even lace. Caroline Ingalls made all the clothing for the Ingalls family for decades in the late 19th century, which was quite common.

Aside from the high society women who laced tightly, the corset's purpose was to create a form for the dress and carry the weight of the the dress. The corset also supported the weight of the breasts which was more comfortable than the modern bra since the weight was more evenly distributed over a wider area than a narrow band and straps. The average woman did not lace so tightly she couldn't breath. The change in silhouettes did not eliminate the need for undergarments to support the dress and create its shape. The corset could be tied in a way so as not to restrict the breathing of the woman. In fact, women were wearing either a corset or a girdle well into the 60s and eventually that shifted to garments like spanks. It is a misunderstanding of the fit of the corset or its purpose to assume it hindered a woman's movement or breathing. The corset changed in style constantly across time as the silhouette of the outer garment changed. In the Edwardian era, the corset developed into the S curve to create a pigeon breast shape and to push out the derriere. The dress was then padded in the hip area to create a larger derriere and lift the back of the dress and the front of the dress had more volume. Generally, styles created volume either in the upper portion (the bodice or sleeves) or the lower portion (the hips and skirt) to create the illusion of a narrow waist.

I can't wait to start dressing in Edwardian clothing, I've done a load of research and love the aesthetics of the period. I am gonna start with implementing my current style with Edwardian era, then make a full set of outfits of the era. Mainly because I want to look good and love what I wear. My current style is a more conservative rugged style that could blend with Edwardian styles quite well.
