A day in the life of an ice cream guy...and the inside of a real ice cream truck!
Could you go through how you put the battery box together ?
I put a Battleborn battery on a shelf. I attached a lithium charger to it. I added a 12v fuse panel for the accessories. I added a shunt so I could keep track of how the battery is performing. Then I added a Victron LED display to watch the battery stuff. It runs the lights and MaxxAir fan. Charge it overnight with the freezer, and work all day.
I had my own ice cream truck back in the 70's. Do you play the old school music box like I had?
@@daytripper9222 yes we do! Makes all the old timers feel like they were kids again!
@@moxiesicecreamtruck Do you have any videos with the chimes on? You can tell I'm an old-timer I use the word chimes LOL
@@moxiesicecreamtruckI found a video of your music box playing the song strawberry blonde which is the one I played on my truck. The music box I had was even older than the one you had. It used to take these metal disk about the size of a CD and you'd slip the metal disc in the machine I had about 20 of these metal discs so I had 20 different songs. I would play strawberry blonde during the day and then when it started to get evening time start to get a little dark I put on Brahms lullaby.
Ice Cream Trucks for us in high school were like Halloween. We may joke that we're too old for it, but come on, you're never too old! 🍦🎃 I still remember the Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream bars 😋
Still my personal favorite...but they might have shrunk since we were kids?
@@moxiesicecreamtruck Oh yea, the shrinkflation is real 🤣 But they're still delicious! Worth every penny when the ice cream trucks come 😋

Our last day this year is today! The rain is on it's way, and we have one day of sun today...so come out and see us in Eugene!
My favorite memory is how all of us on the street knew the schedule and would often gather together before she came so we could have a little party! The ice cream truck lady (I want to say her name was Ms. Jenny) also became quite familiar with us, and it was nice to feel like I was friends with the ice cream lady :)
@@gabrielle_toliver cool story! I hear similar ones every day.
your hilarious man "we finally sold one"
It took all day, but I did! LOL
Nice
Thanks for watching, and the comment!
What van is thisv
@@devanshusrivastava9363 it’s a Ford Transit 150.
take it to galveston texas at yucca drive
Well, that's a 5 day drive from here...so no. There are no mountains there. But thanks for the offer...
Can you tell me the model of cold plate freezer you have?
@@mtylerbartlett C. Nelson BD6SE-HC
@@moxiesicecreamtruck thank you!
In Virginia Halifax county our ice cream truck stop coming after 2023 2024they stopped coming so yeah I'm planning or I want my mom to buy a van like kids and then like do everything like his but instead of the big freezer cuz like Halifax is a poor town so we just have to buy like a mini freezer and we can like play like probably like 9 ice creams in there or like 8 so yeah we had no ice cream trucks now this is in September six on a Friday 5:49 ❤😢😅😊
He seems like a nice guy. i hope he’s happy and doing well for himself

@@OregonDucksRockMadi well that sucks! Hopefully that changes soon! We’re usually at Skinners Butte park starting out in the morning…
Where do you get the product stickers for the outside of your truck?
@@thisismekristie Hi Kristie, I get them from the distributor in Portland, Ice Cream Express. They have thousands…but you can get them from your local distributor or even eBay has some. Hope that helps you out…
@@thisismekristie also, you should get them for free if you’re selling their products. That is the least they could do…
@@moxiesicecreamtruck thank you!
@@thisismekristie anytime!
I grew up in the 80s. When I heard that ice cream truck's music on the street over, me and my brother ran like greyhound dogs to find it.
Is that generator gas or electric ?
@@view13s8 Don’t have a generator anymore. But it was gas. An electric “generator” actually doesn’t exist. They’re just lithium batteries that discharge power but they don’t “generate” anything…despite the name.
Hi, the ice cream freezer is powered in which way
@@sydneymafalo1138 Magic…it gets plugged in at night, and lasts for 12+ hours at -15 degrees.
I noticed your van is for sale. Are you planning a new build, or are you getting out of the business?
@@jdrew2084 The van is NOT for sale at this time. It was last year, but I changed my mind.
Oh happy to hear that! Really like your videos!
@@jdrew2084 Thank you...very kind words. I'm always building something, but I did two this year, so I'm taking the winter off to go camping and motorcycle riding.

That’s the Omni 2!
Nailed it!
Now I am your fan
Well thanks a lot! Thanks for watching!
I know you your good man
I'm trying to be better everyday!
I think my prices need to increase a little. My distributor raised prices for me. Some 20 cents more per bar for example. Also, massive increase in CC charging. Less cash and a lot more CC. The fees are getting dumb Moxie.
Yeah, it's time. I haven't raised mine yet, but it's gonna be time next year.

Be careful of Diet Coke/Pepsi, there’s news saying it has possible cancer risks for the (Aspartame) artificial sweetener in it 🤍❗️
Pepsi will NEVER be sold in my truck...Our customers know the risks. Honestly, aspartame is the least of out worries.
so cute
@@thelightstickclub finally…someone gets it
Do you need to get permits to sell in each different state/city?
@@theGrayArea2 I only care about where I live, and no. None needed here. But your area might be different. Ask locally
That pay it forward idea is awesome ! I remember in about 1974, sweltering day, hearing the ice cream truck...no money. The 9 year old me cried. All these many years later, I still recall that sinking feeling. 😔
@@MaryBeth1965 our community takes care of the unfortunate situations. We just pass it on, and ask the receiver to be nice to someone else who is less fortunate.

I noticed that the salesperson doesn’t tell his customers thank you for shopping with him.
@@tonyperek7292 I’m not Walmart. They have been thanked many times before. They all know me after 4 years
Where do you get your product stickers? I am out in Canada and my biggest issue is getting those pesky product stickers. I have had to print or make my own laminate and tape them to the truck. However, it does not look the greatest!
@@amritbhathal1487 I get them from my distributor. eBay has them also.
The salesperson has a good personality for the job;however, I’m enterested in that music box he has. Is it digital or mechanical.?
@@tonyperek7292 it’s digital. Made by Mr. Nichols in Minnesota. The Omni 2 music box.
Ive always wondered where ice cream trucks get their inventory from

Can one make a decent profit selling ice cream these days?
What, you think we're all out here just picking up chicks?
Kids love candy and ice cream!❤
Big and little kids too! lol
Moxie, i was able to get the new bomb pop unicorn sticker.. its large probably a good 16 inch diameter. I want the original red, white and blue version... cant find it anywhere.. u have an extra?
I might be able to get one. I’ll have to check next week when I go in for a fill up, lol
Only do cash sales on my truck. Got tired of customers telling me that my bank machine must be broken. When in reality they most likely spent all their money. Fridays were the worst because people did not get paid. And clearly they had no savings in their bank account.
Interesting…half the business is credit/debit cards here. I’d love to go all cash, but turning away money is against my company policy, lol
@@moxiesicecreamtruck I lose very few sales because of my rule. But they are usually prepared when I come the following week. I only do my streets once a week. Most parents do not want ice cream trucks screaming past their houses every day. So most of my customers ignore my competition when they drive by.
@@moxiesicecreamtruckthat’s a fine policy to have 😂😂
@@kitt2000car you might THINK that you are getting all the money, but reality is you’re missing some by not giving them a choice. Watch my latest video and you see how fast I can take it down…even taking cards. They pay a premium for the service….
Nice looking truck. The one I own is a 1978 chevy grumman ( ex-postal truck) Have to have those sliding open doors for those hot summer days.
Cool! The vintage ones are always my favorite. I just needed to roll farther away and wanted to make sure I didn’t break down…
very nice build, what size generator did you use .
Thanks! I have a Honda EU3200i Inverter/Generator, and a Honda EU3000i generator. Both are quiet, and powerful. Hardly use any gas either...
Does one just run the ac unit ?
@@jimmyb5935 The lithium battery runs the lights and fan, and if it's hot outside, the AC is the only thing the generator runs. I rarely use it. By the time it's hot enough for the AC, the people won't come out to buy ice cream? Weird but true...
Moxie, we now carry the brand new Bomb Pop Unicorn! Its tasty AF

where do you buy the graphics?
I got them custom made at a sign shop that specializes in vinyl signs.
You're doing good work. The magic of visiting an Ice Cream Truck as a kid cannot be replaced! 🍦
I 100% agree. When we turn on the music, and enter a park, the squeals are loud and the kids are at a full run. It’s a glorious sound! I get into the “I remember when I was a kid” conversations daily too! Everyone remembers fondly the ice cream truck in their childhood days!
Keep the magic alive! Most Ice Cream Trucks in North Carolina where I am tend to permanently park for a day at a downtown square or at a festival. Rare to see one on the road like yours round here! 🍨
Good to see you back. I think I told you that this is the job that I used to do when I was 18. Had my own ice cream truck back in 74. Also when I sold the truck I couldn't stand it and went back and worked for a couple other ice cream truck company.
I bet not much has changed except the prices. The kids might be a little more feral though? LOL
@@moxiesicecreamtruck😅😂True
Moxie u back bruh! We did good last weekend. About $1K profits. Feels good to sell again
Yeah, us too! It's about time! The winter was too long and wet!
Hi.. how much money was invested in this truck from beginning to finish??
I don’t discuss money here. That question is the IRS's favorite. Plus I didn’t count…but it's a lot.
@moxiesicecreamtruck appreciate you answering back.. I just wanted an idea.. I currently have 3 jobs trying to make a better living.. I want to at least do something with my teen kid that can help out during summer break so I thought this would be something to do next year..
@@anamorales-gz6wo It's hard to share that info with someone I don't know. I can tell you what stuff costs. The freezer was 7K, and the van was 25k back in 2016. You could do it for a LOT less, but that's not how I roll. You could buy a regular van, and use chest freezers from home depot that are like 175 bucks. Throw some dry ice in there for the day and gross some money. The hardest thing to find is a distributor that sells the right ice cream novelties. Find that first , and quiz them up. Keep asking questions till you get the answers you want. You can do it!
how much did it coast to make from start to finish
Sorry but I don’t share that on my channel.
@@moxiesicecreamtruckyou're not no help
Is it hard to sell the ice cream legally? What all do you need to sell it? Is it a county to county thing or when you get the licensing is it state wide?
No license needed in Oregon. Easy to sell. I can’t go anywhere without someone wanting ice cream. I get pulled over all the time by regular people. Gas stations, drive through restaurants etc
@@moxiesicecreamtruck oh sweet!
Basically, because it’s prepackaged and frozen, no health department needed, no commercial kitchen. Just buy it wholesale and then retail it.
im so glad you still keep on even though genus claims ice cream trucks like yours or others are racist
Thanks. Nope, not racist at all.
@@moxiesicecreamtruck idk what these stupid hipsters are think writing these idiotic buzzfeed style "articles" next their going to say all retail is bad
Niceeeee . How much do you pay for the ice cream / how do you get that?
That is secret. Find a local distributor and ask them for a price list.
