Rusty Crusty Cast Iron Bacon Review! #foryou #cooking #bacon #eggs #castiron #castironlife
Rusty Crusty Cast Iron Bacon Review!
This morning, I made breakfast in the BSR Chef Skillet and tested out some bacon from my buddy AJ. He runs Rusty Crusty Cast Iron way down in south Texas. Everything came out great. The bacon did not taste like what you get in the store. It had great flavor, nice and crispy and cooks fast. I give it a 10/10!!

I needed the 10 to complete my skillet set before they start adding helper handles. The Dutch oven was just too pretty to pass up. I love the raised numbers and the handles. Roasted Chicken in the #12 Lancaster! Today's dinner is a whole chicken seasoned, stuffed, surrounded, and roasted in a #12 Lancaster Cast Iron skillet. Everything came out great, and the Lancaster did a great job. I wasn't sure which vegetables I wanted with the chicken, so I just went with a good mixture. The total cook time was 1 hour at 400 and 30 minutes at 350. I added a few teaspoons of ...

With great iron comes great cookability -SpiderPan. These are two 12 IN spiders I have restored this last week. They are nearly identical. One was purchased online and came from Washington, the other I picked up at a Flea Market here in Texas. Since both are from before 1900 and gatemarked, there is no way to know who actually made these. It is amazing that these are in such good shape after al...

Funny you should post this video---yesterday i had pepper bacon with eggs
Beautiful looking so far. It looks like the nice dark color around the handle and edges and the bronze color towards the center that I've seen it come in on their website. Guessing the smoother surface has a tougher time bonding to the seasoning, but still looking wonderful regardless. Did you use the oven method or Stove top method to season? Also what oil/fat did you use?
I used Canola in the oven.
Nice I have one of the turkey roaster oven the steel plate with the holes in it is a diffuser plate you use the diffuser plate on top of a gas burner and under the Turkey roaster to help regulate the heat and you use it in the oven too nice collection
Nice Huey. If you end up having one of those long handled dpiders when the dust clears, I would be interested in buying one.
@@ronaldcoward9576 well all of them are still available
@@hawgwildcastiron2023 ok huey. How do we connect?

Nice setup.. Hey Huey how much are you asking for the bacon and egg skillet? I bought one but it has a crack so I can't use it. Maybe I got something you want?

Nice finds, Huey! Stay safe and stay cool
Nice pieces of iron, Huey. Stay safe and stay cool
Nice stuff, Huey. i hope you sell it all. Stay safe and stay cool
There is just something wildly satisfying about cooking on carbon steel, cast iron, and even stainless. No worries about contamination from coatings and something that with care can be handed down for generations.
Balloons and dancing girls would bring in more customers
@fuzztfork8 yeah but they cost more than Fred. Lol

I would love to have one. , but I can't afford it,,, yet !
Nice pans! Breakfast looked good, Huey. Stay safe and stay cool
Nice Huey
It's whatever you want it to be. Pentagram with a lame border that should be filled with hebrew letters or angel or demon names if you ask me. (It's a waste of a pentagram)
You'll luvvv it Huey
Huey, you had an outstanding day
Yessir! I'm pretty excited to use them.
Uuuhhh oooooh, time to shine Huey.😂😂😂 Really pretty irons.
Smithey cast iron pans are kind of like the modern man or woman looks good but don't work for shit.

@fuzztfork8 👋 Fuzzy are you ok today?
@@cynthiawesley2318 Iam ok... Iam getting the feeling however that someone is freezing me out of the chats, and it is not the creators,it is someone with a stick to ban me, say a moderator, but do not know for sure.
@fuzztfork8 You know what Fuzzy, I felt the SAME on Muds. But I don't know enuff about that sort of thing bc I'm verrrry illerate to that kind of stuff. But you're on da RIGHT MANS CHANNEL to ask. Awesome breakfast
Thank you!
Wow Huey, I like those little enameled pans. I've never seen or heard of a Oneta. It kind of looks way thinner and lighter weight than the BSR. more like a Griswold weight. What ya think?
Oneta is Wapak's discount brand. Same patterns, just different name. It is really light. The BSRs are pretty cool. I have a fryer, 5&8 skillets and a 3 on the way.
It is eating season Huey. Looks so good.
Yummiliciousness!!! I'm gonna try this one!
Looks good to me! Thank you for sharing your supper with us, Huey. Stay safe and stay cool
Thank you for showing us your cast iron, Huey. Stay safe and stay cool
I hope your sales are great
@cynthiawesley2318 well it was ok, but about 1/3 of what I did at Weatherford. They moved my spot when I got there and I had at least 5 people say that they had bought a dirty pan for more because they saw them first. Maybe if I start going I would do better, but that's a 3 hour drive.
@hawgwildcastiron2023 Yikes, 3 hours? I don't know if that's worth da risk neither Huey.
tHOUGHT THE OVEN WAS INTERESTING
@fuzztfork8 yeah it was made by Ideal in the 1920s. It has a hole on the bottom that allows the heat to come up and surround the oven. It is pretty cool!
at 1 minute and 26 seconds I see a six scalloped hole baking pan, perhaps a tart pan. I have one which I am told is from about the 1920's do you have some information that you can share about that pan. I am looking for a second pan to make my baking events go faster. thank you in advance.
That is a Turk Head pan at 00:56. The shape of the handles looks a lot like Griswold handles that I see on my cornstick pans and in the Griswold Muffin Pan book. But it may just be a similar or copied pan. Or unmarked pan. Can't tell without a good look at bottom. It looks a lot like their model 130 . But my copyright 1997 book says that pan is $$$$, so suspect it's not it! Griswold made their 6 and 12 cup pans similar to that one in the 1930s to 1950s per the book. I have two similar 6 cup pans I got off Etsy. I think one was a Lodge and one was a BSR. You might try Etsy as they tend to have more cast iron in restored condition vs Ebay.
I have an old steel fry pan that says "Savory Spider" on the handle.
@@Jack-ne8vm that's awesome!
I have two of the 8 wedge pans. They have different handles! One is "Sharper" with the ridge and more defined teardrop. The other is softer.
Never see anything like this up here. Thank you for sharing this with us, Huey. Stay safe and stay cool
How ironic. NOT TOO OFTEN, lightning strikes in da same place twice. Congrats Huey.
Which one will you buy ??
@fuzztfork8 Neither Fuzzzy, I have 2.😂😂😂 Vintage & Antique. 1 #8 with a bale handle unmarked lodge & antique, long handle, gatemarked soooo similar to dez, minus da letters #9. Both got da lids. I just so happened on da lid for that 9.
@@cynthiawesley2318 I was only kidding, as I know you are into that type of skillet
@fuzztfork8 LOL, I am. I love alot of cookware Fuzzy Wuzzy🫣😂
Wow that's kind of unusual to find two of a kind of the really old stuff. Pretty neat. Do those actually measure 12 inches? How about the bottom?
@grandpagreenwald ill have to measure them. I couldn't believe i found two that close.
@@hawgwildcastiron2023 I found a 12 inch the other day but it had a crack in it.
What is the purpose for the feet/legs on the bottom! I assume they're meant for open fire cooking only?
Nooooo GAS stove tops, ovens, grills, open fired, etc. Gotta be creative with it.
They were used for open fires and inside as hearth skillets. Way back when they would drag out coals from the fireplace and cook on the hearthstone. Outside you could cook on any type fire.
I've even experimented on my coil eye electric stove way back when. I got those legs safely in gaps & went for it. 😂😂😂 Trying stuff to blow my face off 😂😂😂
That egg went for a swim!
Awesome pan! You never see them up here. Thank you for sharing your cornbread with us, Huey. Added to the CIW playlists. Stay safe and stay cool
Kinda looks familiar! Nice resto job.
Thanks! It came out pretty good. The other is in the E-tank now.
Enjoyed your take on Grits, but I thought you would have made them in the pan as well.
N I C E !!!
Dang Huey you are an easy bird with my idea. I made 5 jalapeño cornbreads this morning in the #5's. Good way to start the day.
It has character. I just cleaned up a #8 CO by Lodge unmarked on those legs. Cute lil 2 da 3 ppl pot. I can't wait to give it a run. Ima do a beef vegetable soup. So save me a hunk of yo cornbread to go with it.😅😅😅
I bet it came out great!
Looks good and yes please!
That cheese is great! I use it on pizzas along with spicy chorizo!
A man that can cook.🥰🔥 Blessed wife. That chefs is RIGHT ON!!!😊
The man cooks and the ladies get to do dishes, my but things have changed
@fuzztfork8 Sounds like an even change Fuzzy lol. I have to do BOTH!!! But I luv my job. Plus it's LESS hazardous to his health messing with my IRON.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@cynthiawesley2318 i DO BOTH, BUT LIMITED MY DUTIES OF WASHING DISHES AND SILVERWARE TO PAPER PLATES AND PLASTIC SILVERWARE
Ohhhh! The best skillet ever! Looks yummilicious. I've never thought about cooking brats that way. Gonna try it
@hawgwildcastiron2023 did you end up trying the vinegar etch? how's your pan looking a year later?
I did try using vinegar and it did help. It looks pretty good, but I have not used it as much lately.
Spend $50 on a Lodge. And $150 on a shrink and a cooking class. Who spends this kind of money on pig iron?
There's a skillet at 0:19 with small ears and just an X on the bottom. What is it? It must have been a large foundry because they are from Tennessee to Texas. I have two of em. I was thinking initial skillets had two letters? The wrought iron skillet at 0:22 was made in Saint Louis. I made up this big story about the settlers trading their heavy cast iron for a lighter skillets and my wife was impressed. I hated to tell her it was all crap.
It is an initial skillet. What i found on then was a discussion over if the Foundry owner was illiterate and just used the X instead of initials. Not sure how valid that is, but that's the conclusion they came up with.
The WIRCO is a pretty cool story in itself. The owner started out making his stoves and hollowware out of cast iron, but was getting too much breakage, so he changed to wrought iron since it is not as brittle. I have restored several, and the one thing that I have noticed is that most of them are pitted more than cast iron. Even one I found with 1/4" caked on oil was still pitted. They are great skillets, though.
@@hawgwildcastiron2023 Thank you, I learned something. That is why I never get tired of cast iron there's always something to learn. I have a completely different skillet with two initials on the bottom and they are different on each skillet depending on who molded it. I would like to call this skillet a Blacklock but there's no proof. It has the outside heat ring fitting the skillets of the day. It's actually the one that got me started collecting. I should smash that thing into a million pieces. lol That makes it the most expensive skillet I own !
@@hawgwildcastiron2023 I read where the wrought iron skillets were bad about warping. Mine isn't pitted but it is slightly warped. There's a way to repair a warped skillet. I've worked with metals my entire life and it bothered me that people say that can't be fixed. As it turned out repairing the bottom was never the problem, they were cracking as they cooled down. Now I do all my skillets on a turkey cooker set on hi. I don't let them cool unevenly. I cover them with a fire blanket and heat the crap out of em. When they are evenly heated they can start cooling down still under the fire blanket. I've never had one to bust like this and believe me I've busted a few. Practice with Asian pieces at first. Folks say that sounds like a lot of trouble. I think to myself, I'm not dealing with modern Lodge. I wanted to do it because they said it couldn't be done. Possibly ya can't get a guy with a metal shop to care about a skillet? Now we're getting somewhere! I guess my buddies are thinkin I've gone woke with all these pans. lol
