Railway-related videos filmed and produced by J.M.Warr as a retirement hobby and in recognition of the huge enjoyment obtained from train spotting in my youth in the 1950s in and around Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Also an outlet for my lifetime's interest in motorcycles and related sporting activity. Hence the Isle of Man content of my film library reflects that interest and my regard for those who compete in those sporting festivals.

Film by J. Martin Warr of an amazing migration of crabs from the open sea onto land as part of the breeding process. However, the thousands of crabs had to run a gauntlet of a road crossing and the mortality was huge even on a lightly loaded road. I hope that my use of Acker Bilk's emotive music doesn't raise too many problems.

Thank you for your note and I trust that you will enjoy the remainder of my Chinese and other travel films.
What a fantastic sound from a working train and steam whistle i love it.
That was a splendid location with the engines working hard to climb the slope.
Nice to see how they living in the walley pieceful and simple. But so sad to see this beautyful trains rusty and for scrap and the end of a fantastic time whit steam.
Yes indeed, the people interested me almost as much as the steam engines. They live a hard life in conditions which we would consider to be those of several centuries ago. Little mechanical assistance, but many people to perform the same task. As for the locomotives, several operational locos were purchased and taken to USA. There is a post on this film from a gentleman involved in one such project. Thank you again for your interest.
So fine some loco have a new life in usa. You welcome and thancks again for nice films from china.
@@Trond.68 Thank you too and tell your friends of what you have discovered.
Yes i do tell about your channel of steam loco.
@@Trond.68 Thank you.
We have a steam train some like this here in norway but it is on museum today and not in use unfortunately. The name was Nsb type 49 Dovregubben. Them going on Dovrebanen from Oslo to Trondheim from 1935 to 1957. That train is big and fantastic to see and think about the time that was in use. If you visit norway you find that train on Jernbanemuset in Hamar and more of the steam time here, And a little one in use some drive maby 1 km ewery summer whit the name Urskog from 1895. And see Caroline Nsb type 2 the oldest train in norway from 1861 and are in use today some times a year.
Woow what a driving, glad your are on a bus. Must be free driving down there lool. But what one does not to see this fantastic trains.
Yes it was indeed an unforgettable experience which is no longer possible as diesels do the job now.
So sad to know what the diesel train go there today. Nobody are better than steam trains and feel the coal smoke and what sound is amazing.
@@Trond.68 I agree with you there, my wife's father drove a steam engine before he too transferred to modern diesels. He remained very interested in the steam engines.
Fantastic to see this steam trains, and the sound and the smell from burn coal. But sad to know this train is no more in trafic. But thacks for nice video.
Thank you for your interest and I share your regret. My visits have, unfortunately, come to an end but my films are my memories. I hope that you are able to enjoy the remaining films of my 3 visits to China.
Yes i want to see your ather films. Are them on this channel i am now?? I think you are lucky some visit china and see this fantasic trains. We have some museums steam trains here in norway but it be not the same to see this trains in work, But it is fantastic anyways.
@@Trond.68 Yes all my films are on the same Channel, John M Warr
Do you have any footage of inside the chedworrh tunnel? I walk on the old railway line and up to the blocked tunnel entrance all the time and have always longed to see inside.
No, I am afraid not as the conditions in the tunnel and underfoot did not encouraga too much lingering. Such a pity, as I remember the trains on the line in the 40's and 50's which was, of course, well used during WW2, including by my father on week-end leave. It's easy to forget that these pictures are more than 50 years old and much must have changed since. Thanks for your interest.
@@johnmwarr thank you so much for replying!
I’ve walked and filmed quite a bit of the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway, from Andoversford to Hook Norton. Filmed at Chedworth and Fosse Cross too, and it’s amazing to compare your photos with how it has all changed in 50 odd years. I was told by a Chedworth resident that the tunnel might be passed to either the Parish Council or Local History Group, to be maintained? A very interesting video, thanks for sharing your photographs. Regards. Ron.
@@abandonedrailwaya2470 Many thanks for your comments and I wish now that I had taken more images, but 35mm colour slides were pricey for a young family man ,and I was wearing my best suit! I may already have mentioned that I travelled the line into Cheletenham from Andoversford over Dowdswell viaduct, a journey which my Mum made daily when she was a young teacher trainee in the town. Happy Days!

The Spinal Tap 'And Elsewhere' reference is brilliant.
Thanks for your comment.
Thank you both for these truly wonderful record of Chinese steam locomotive's. The sight of the 2-10-2 Q7's at work, are so very impressive! I'm in my eighties now and have lived in both Canada and the U.S. for many years. But I still remember my train spotting days (with my Ian Allen books) from long ago! Incedently there are two Q7's owned by two separate steam enthusiast groups; which I have seen runing via RUclips. Both groups are located in the mid west. Here in Colorado we are fortunate to have several narrow gauge railways; two that run all day trips spring to fall. Thank you again for your pictures and the music where included, really was delightful. John Lofthouse.
Dear John< I am so grateful for your message and I hope sincerely that you can find my channel (John M Warr) and watch some of the other films that I have made which enable me, also in my 80's, to share the memories of an unrepeatable time. We still have some live steam operating to a timetable in the Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea, using locomotives which were built in Manchester and Glasgow and purchased for the line over a century ago. Always under threat from politicians, of course, but facing another season in 2024 with some optimism. I hope that my films of those engines, workshops and routes are also enjoyable. We visit the island every year for the Motorcycle racing. I too still have all my Ian Allan books, the earliest of which is 1949/50 when I 'copped' Kempenfelt on the Midland line into Bristol one Saturday morning. What a pleasurable, harmless and timeless hobby. Film making in my long retirement with my wife, together with the associated travel, including USA & Canada, has simply multiplied the pleasure. Thank you again. Sincerely, JMW
As a child I used to live next to the Newcastle Sydney line in NSW and used to love seeing the Garrets under full load - it was a sight to see and hear !!!
Yes indeed, distinctive locos. I have been to the old works in Manchester too. However, I don't think that the engines in Myanmar will function again ~ unfortunately! Thanks for your comments.
Отличная работа💪
Thank you for your comment.
Thank you for another spectacular video.😄
I am so pleased that this format still appeals to you. It certainly allows us all to see the bikes more clearly, even if we can't hear them. Happy Christmas and enjoy the other two films. JMW

Hi John! Finally another Isle of Man movie from you! I'm a very big fan of your Classic Racing reports! Maybe we'll see us on the island next year in autumn....Best wishes from the North of Germany!
Thanks so much for your comment. We missed last year's event due to illness but we were determined to get back this time around. I hope that the mix of video and still images was an acceptable arrangement. It certainly allows us to cover all the riders and machines in some detail. I love it, and I'm so pleased that you do too. I am busy making the next installment. Kind regards to you all in Northern Germany., and I hope sincerely that my ancient bones will carry me back next year! J. Martin Warr

Stig, you are more than welcome and I'm glad that you are still going strongly.
A wonderful video. I love how you include and show some people in the community and how they do things the old way. It's still the good way.
Thank you Adriaan, There are so many films of engines, mostly without commentary. I find the local people as interesting as the railway movements and try to include them. In China, some of the people were, understandably, suspicious but others were very open to my filming activities. Splendid times on my three visits to this great country,

John M Warr message.
The United Kingdom. Hi John I went to boarding school in Kurseong back in the mid 50s and started my journey in Calcutta with broad gauge steam railway then had a ferry crossing and back onto broad gauge to Siliguri where 200 students boarded the Toy Train up to our school just outside Kurseong, The journey from Cal in those days took two nights to reach Siliguri. We had our own "siding" at the school entrance where the train stopped to off load a very mischievous group of lads. I have been going back to India for my hols for about 50 years and always take the opportunity to ride the "old Toy train" when possible. When I introduce myself to the drivers and mention my old school I very often get a free ride. I am on Facebook and on the odd occasion when they discuss old school days I would very much appreciate if I may use a 30 second clip to show the Toy train in action to appreciate what a marvellous bit of British engineering still chugging along after all these years. I will of course give you credit and hopefully promote your excellent video. Thanks for bringing back fond memories with your wonderful video.

By the way Vivien Leigh of Gone With The Wind fame was born at St. Pauls School in Darjeeling and Jonna Lumley was born in British India same as me.!
@@augustsky6248 Yes indeed. The views from both Darjeeling station and from the splendid Batasa loop were amazing. From the loop It was possible to see the wind moving the snow around on the summit using a kind soul's veranda as a filming point. I visited Darjeeling three times but this visit afforded the best views. In addition, the views from the Mall behind The Windermere were excellent too. Altogether a great experience and I trust sincerely that I given the time to visit again even though my dear wife won't risk her digestion!

that stedman caters at the end is wonderful! beautiful bells that aren't afraid to show their age !!
I've never been a ringer but can appreciate both the ringing and the amazing engineering involved in the creation of the 'instruments'. Plus, of course, the dedication of those that make music in this way as their service to the Almighty.
Ah I know many atheist n agnostic ringers!! 😁
beautiful
The picture of 0808 A at 1:07:49 is also interesting: complete with gangway door!
The pictures of new-build oil-burner 1001 B at 1:08:05 and 1:08:28 are interesting; the enlarged water saddle is present, but it appears to be lacking its diesel-burning equipment (generators, tanks); wonder if was being in the process of being converted from oil to coal.
All pretty static then, I think. Anno Domini may prevent me from returning but 'never say never!' Thank you for your comments.
China is an AWESOME place....the last to phase out Steam trains but the leader in Fast Electric Train....Mind Blowing is they have Mag Lev trains!. From new to old in the same decade.
Yes, their investment in rail is sustained. They spend more than the rest of the developing world combined.
They also build highways to nowhere to prove they're better than the West lol
可惜已经是历史了,集通铁路的蒸汽机车基本都拆了。
Thank you
Great work John. Really appreciate the effort, without people like you, all of these great bikes and characters are too easily forgotten. Why road racing never drew the fame it deserves I'll never know.
Thank you Sir! I have thoroughly enjoyed 20 years of Isle of Man racing activity having returned in 1998, after a break of some 34 years! Filming is a new dimension for me and I have learned along the way with the constant forbearance of all the competitors and their support teams who make the two annual events such a pleasure. The pandemic break has changed things so much, and we are all that much older, so I shall not be there this year. However, never say never! I shall hopefully be back again in 2023. Thank you again for your comments and I share your opinion on the uniqueness of the sport. Sincerely, Martin Warr
