    Any sports that uses the head or neck to control the body is very dangerous especially with children that may not be able to control their strengths. The neck is just to fragile and any temperature stop of oxygen to brain can cause life changing situations.

      Hi Jamie thank you for your comment. You're absolutely right, the neck is a very dangerous part of the body to manipulate so it is the responsibility of the instructor to explain how the neck works, especially to juniors who are still learning about biology in schools. We also teach to do things fast but submissions are slow. I hope this puts your concerns at ease. Thanks again for your comment.

      Thanks for your comment and an interesting point. This is an isolated drill that focuses on a basic momentum-based padwork drill. It would be wise to remember that if every drill considered every 'what-if' scenario then we would never get anywhere with our training and would take several lifetimes to learn anything. I would be interested to see your rendition of this drill with the kick considered. Thanks again for your comment.

    Hi Sensei do find that students are less willing to try new techniques when they are being recorded for public consumption? Cheers James in Tokyo

    • @somersetappliedkarate
      @somersetappliedkarate 4 месяца назад

      Hi James thanks for your comment. In my experience there is no difference in approach to new material whether students are being documented or not. Live sparring and pressure testing always makes new material more difficult to drill, hence why regular training and revision of the material is crucial. I sincerely hope that these sparring videos are not perceived to be used only for 'public consumption', I have received countless feedback that they are enjoyable for subscribed viewers, useful for students and insightful for parents. These videos are also used to promote live sparring and pressure testing across clubs that currently don't pressure test their material. Variations such as all-in, focus sparring and fun games are also used to share ideas of how to ingrain a principle in a more palatable way. I hope that is clear to all, thanks again for your comment.

      @somersetappliedkarate 4 месяца назад

      Hi Weemac4645, thank you for your comment, however it is a shame that there are still people like you out there trying to put people down. Not that it is any of your business but this particular student of ours is injured and is trying their best to train through their injury, so encouragement is key at this moment. As the teacher who gave this student their black belt I had no hesitation in doing so due to their hard work and commitment to the club and to the Karate world, maybe you should take a moment to figure out who they are. My suggestion to you is to focus on your own training and not worry about other people's journeys because you don't know what people are going through and it is my job to help these people on their path, and if you don't like the content on this channel then I insist that you find another one featuring students that meet your standards. Thank you again for your feedback. Joe

    • @somersetappliedkarate
      @somersetappliedkarate 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment. Wax on-wax off is a legitimate Karate technique and strategy and in this case has been applied as a defence to be used as a set-up for this takedown. It is wise to also remember that this was a compliant demonstration and these takedowns will always be more difficult (but not impossible) to achieve in non-compliant training and sparring which is why we do both. I would be interested to see a clip of yourself demonstrating this particular takedown and how you would set it up, it would be of interested to us. Thanks again for your feedback.

My students and I are very aware that poking the head under the arm will lead to a guillotine, hence why I explain that you headbut the body then lead your head to the outside of the leg, I leave my head there in this clip because I am trying to teach the material. Whilst I appreciate your feedback could I ask you to practise leaving feedback less sarcastically in future? Martial artists should set an example and leave constructive feedback. Thank you.
