    Oh my I remember Bearfield hollow. I think I camped just about in the same area you did. I went through that in a pouring rain, and it wasn't fun ha-ha! That section definitely needs some love. Faded marker to marker with no path. Great idea with the bread bag tags. I started carrying clothespins this past year to dry stuff on a line, but I might have to use this idea! That was a nice camp in beech bottom hollow, I remember taking a long break there. Did you stay at the lodge in Crossfork? I guess I'll find out in part 3. Fun adventure!

      @@Hiking.Inspired yeah we stayed in Cross Fork. We sent ourselves resupply boxes to the post office, did laundry at the motel (they have a washing machine but no dryer; however it was nice and sunny for us to hang our stuff out to dry out back on the clothesline). Had both lunch and dinner at Deb’s(they will let backpackers camp behind the bar according to the bartender, but the motel is worth it). And we got some supplies from the general store, too

    This is fun watching you hike the route! Looks like weather didn’t start out so great for you in the beginning. I hope it cleared up for you later on. That’s nice they rebuilt that bridge over that beaver area that was much needed when I went through there.

    I’ve been hiking PA for 30+ years. Much of the state is slate and limestone, you often have to use the 2 rock stake down method. Wrap your line around a medium sized rock and set the lines stretched out, then set a large rock on the stake out line in front of the medium rock. Hope this helps someone!👍

    Are there places to park a car overnight at both ends of this trail? Do you recommend one side or the other to park?

    • @toesockoutdoors3627
      @toesockoutdoors3627 9 месяцев назад

      Yes, there are parking lots at both ends. The end we started the hike at was right next to a bridge and had room for about 6 or so cars. The end we finished at was a dirt parking lot with plenty of room. (To the best of my recollection 😁). I think I remember the only “legal” place to camp was the shelter area which was a pretty good distance from where we started, maybe 18-19 miles. From there it was about 9-10 miles to the end. The shelter area was on a sloped ground, good for hammocks, maybe not so for tents if the shelter is already taken.

      It’s called a “ramen bomb”. I use a half packet of instant mashed potatoes, and a pack of ramen noodles. Put that stuff in a freezer gallon ziplock. Has to be a freezer bag! Boil 2 cups of water. Pour most but not all the water into the bag and let it rehydrate. You can always add more water, but you can’t take water out😁. Add your chicken/tuna packet of choice

    All great points. For me, as I get older it’s more so about the comfort. A hammock is way more comfortable and I don’t have to crawl out. I do seem to find more camping options using my hammock than with a tent. There have been many times where I just picked two trees in the woods where there is no way I could have set up a tent. I do still use a tent from time to time to mix it up. Great video!
