I think a lot of us are guilty in thinking: I need new gear to take better photos. But why is that? Is there maybe another way to improve your photography instead? In this video, I give 3 hands-on tips that will improve your photography, no matter what camera you're using. It took me a very long time to figure these things out (and obviously, I've still not mastered them), but I hope they will ...

This is the most helpful video I think I've seen in a long time! I am SO grateful for your sharing this. I'm saving and will watch again and again. I'm retired and only a hobbyist/street photographer. I have an M6. All of your points were so right on. I took lots of notes. I appreciate your sharing the film stock you used making the photos you shared. Your whole video was just so well put together. Again, thank you.
thank you so much for your kind words my friend, it makes me very happy reading them and knowing that my video could help you :)
Beautiful.
thank you so much :)
Nothing beats the experience of shooting on an M camera. Best of the best.
a Great Experience ☺️
Hey! I'm just getting into photography so I don't know much. But is it possible to build a career as a portrait photographer fully on film? Or you kinda need some digitals also of the shoots you do? I'm not sure if clients care about if the pictures are film or digital. I see you mostly do film now at days but did you start your career like that? PS: I recently found your channel and I'm truly in love with your pictures & content 💚
thank you so much for your kind words. you can fully build a career shooting film, but obviously, most of the clients prefer digital photos. i also started shooting digital and still do it for clients but I want to focus more on shooting jobs on film because I enjoy it more than digital :)
@@TobiasHolzweiler interesting. thank you so much!

Hey man! new subscriber here :) enjoying your content. I have a random question, it seems you only or at least mainly use Carmencita lab - do you live locally to them ? If not do you ship all your negatives to them?
Thanks for the sub man appreciate it :) yes I use them for exactly one year and I‘m in love. I don’t live in Spain where they’re based. I ship my films
Simon Sinkek is very inspirational person snd you too. Keep going Tobi
Thank you Julian 🙏🏻☺️
Richtig tolles Video und ein richtig tolles ‚Why‘ 🥹 Ich fühl mich inspiriert.
Das freut mich sehr zu hören ☺️ vielen Dank fürs zuschauen
This resonates. I bought the M3 based on hype around it. And while I love it, I feel like it holds me back from being as creative as I can be. I still have it and still use it but I also bought a Z2X and use that so much more. Point and shoot cameras feel more in line with how I see the world and I couldn’t be more happy about it
I‘m very happy about the decision you made and that it makes you happy ☺️
Só para dizer que estou pronto para os vídeos de 2 horas :)

500 rolls on a M camera.... It should be relatively easy and fast to shoot. Most analog people can understand lighting without a light meter at that point. 500 rolls at about $1 a photo is a lot of money to just figure out how hard it is. I think at the end of the day that the M system just isn't for you... it's your truth about the system that doesn't work for you day-to-day photos.. btw your photos are amazing... so at the end of the day keep doing what you do with what works for you.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and for your comment Matt. I still love the system. Don’t get me wrong. But it doesn’t suit my artistic vision anymore. I felt like it was time to move on and I’m very happy with the decision I made ☺️ it makes me very happy that you’re enjoying the photos
Beautiful! What kind of camera do you use? A Canon?
Yes I do! EOS 3
@@TobiasHolzweiler Wonderful !
Wow this is really a good travel film
thank you so much!! I'm happy you're seeing the work I've put into the film :) thank you so much for watching
Funny when your older and you remember a time without digital photography you can’t understand the surprise about the new analog experience. To be true someone gifted me his M6 this summer. And even though I know film photography… it’s a very different experience. Even though I understand the idea, it made me the first time very insecure. And still provoking me to rethink the process. I can see advantages and disadvantages in both domains. It may depends on my intension. I cant imagine big city street with zone focusing anymore. To be spontaneous with the X-pro2 is something I like.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I can completely understand your point of view. I grew up with analog photography when I was a kid, but when I was old enough to take my own photographs, it was of course with digital cameras. Therefore, I am very happy that I made the experience to go back to film. I think without Covid, this would not have happened. I actually truly believe that every photographer should know both worlds. Film photography teaches you so much about the craft itself. When it comes to the M6 I agree with you. It is still a very different shooting experience even in the analog field. I am happy. I ditched it for now, but I might be going back in the future when I’m older who knows. For now I love my point and shoot. 🥰
@ I think the gear also depends on my intension. And too much gear also distracts me from my goals. Ernst Haas said. „Ein Foto wird gemacht“. This told me a lot about, that not everything is spontaneous. Special not when you are forced to use slow Kodak Film. I love his work because the technical limitations where leading him to new creative ideas… I think today pictures can look very fast one like the other… people ask for the sharpest lens… everything clean… analog never was super clean…to me its the imperfections, also mistakes by the photographer can be very insensitive inspiring pictures. Sometimes more than the good shots. Its like god wanted you to make this picture….
@@beyourself9162, you've summed it up so beautifully. i couldn't agree more. and ernst haas's work is unmatched. he's one of the greatest. there is so much to learn from him
@@TobiasHolzweiler His son can tell us that he was obsessed with photography. Means a lot of training. I do not believe in terms like genius. Also, in my profession, it’s critical how you train/practice. I tell my students to find out what is good for them. Sometimes focused 25 minutes, being fully present in the here and now, can be better compared to 60 minutes not being present at all. Back to Haas. For me, obsession is a good thing for a small period, but after a while I want to come back to a normal driven nerve system. It is under no circumstances ok to offer your kids a fridge jam packed with KC but no food. But this is exactly what E.H. did to his kids. I often ask myself where does the money came from. It also must have been expensive in the 50s, 60s etc. or does those famous photographers got it for free by Kodak?
Mega Video! Danke Bro ♥️
My pleasure 🙏🏻☺️
Amazing video Tobias, well done!!
thank you so much!! i appreciate you taking the time to watch :)
I really enjoyed this video and the goodbye Leica. I think the perspective is so unique and you address things that people don’t think about. I love that your growth leads you to let go of things you don’t need.
thank you so much for your words Keisha! I appreciate your opinion an I'm happy that you fully understand the point of the video. i think it's quite a unique perspective that I have and therefore it makes me very happy that we both share the same view :)
@ of course. After taking 18,000 photos between the two cameras your feelings and opinions are real and well beyond the point of validity. We deserve to hear the perspective of such experience. You inspire me. I’m not there yet but I’m working on it.
@@KeishaLou you'll get there!! just keep trying and having fun :) thanks Keisha I appreciate it very much
You forgot to mention Hernst Haas, the master of color photography
One for the greatest for sure!! I admire his work
you sold the M6..oh dear,, only came here for that.. sorry didn't get that far into your film...all the best with your new cameras...
Yes I sold it haha. Very happy about it 🙏🏻 but still one of the greatest cameras for sure
Do germans not have air conditioning?
No we don’t 😂😂😂😂 in the city I live it rains over 250 days. I guess it’s about time to move haha
@ that’s funny because I was looking at trying to live in DE for a year on a tourist or student visa but I can’t live anywhere that’s it’s above 30c
@ then you’re good to go haha. We do get above 30c in summer but only for a few weeks it’s really hot. You could survive the heat with only a ventilator for that time. I do have a movable AC that I in summer but only because I live in the 4th floor where the heat is stuck more easily but even that costs only 150€
This video is a masterpiece
Thank you so much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰
The Z2X is a rebadged Minolta, by the way. I only recently rediscovered mine, which I’ve had since new in the mid 1990s.
Oh I didn’t know!! Very interesting ☺️
@@TobiasHolzweiler It's funny, the only Leicas I've ever owned have been models developed by or with other companies. I had a CL (also a Minolta design) for a while, but the prices of M mount glass scared me. Now I am down to my old Z2X, which I've owned since new in the 1990s, and a Digilux 2 (rebadged Panasonic). Love them both.
@@djtoman6875 sounds like some very trusty cameras you have there :)
