In the sentence 'She looked as if he were in charge,' shouldn't it say 'he was in charge' for it to be the indicative mood?

Thanks for your lucid explanation. One question: Is there a future subjunctive mood in the following sense? I wish something would happen in the future but I think it's unlikely. If it does happen, I would be taking certain action. One example; If that day really comes, I would choose to celebrate.

Hi Max. Wonderful class, but I have a question. In the minute 19:29 excercise e). You changed "got up late" to "had got up late". Wouldn't it be "had gotten up late" if you have to move the tense back to past perfect? Am I missing something? Thanks!
