Paulie is so hilarious when he’s breaking down in an angry and spoiled and obnoxious meltdown for a drunk and alcoholic and bad tempered behavior like a bratty human being on Christmas Eve and loses his mind with Rocky and Adrian.

I saw this on broadway at the very first preview. They so many issues to open this show. They night before which was suppose to be the first preview had to be cancelled because the theater lost power. So, they brought in a generator truck to power the show the night I went. The director, Alex Timbers, came out before and made a little speech basically telling us that anything could happen. The entire creative team was standing in the back of the orchestra section on pins and needles. In spite of all that, the show went off without too many issues. The audience seemed to be full of Rocky fans and loved it. Sly Stallone was there and he came out on stage and made a speech after the show. It was a great night. That being said, in the history of musical theater this would not go down as one of the best. Looking at from a purely musical theater lens, it has issues. What it does have is nostalgia and heart!

This is an amazing musical, it’s so sad that the show didn’t last as long on Broadway as it did for 3-4yrs in Germany. I wish the musical would’ve at least done a production in Philadelphia. I would’ve seen that especially considering the story takes place there and has a lot of real life references. Hopefully, there’ll be a Broadway Revival maybe someday 🤞

We are producing this show in Philadelphia at the Walnut Street Theatre. Performances begin Oct 4th. All the bogus references are fixed ("south side" vs. "South Philly", etc). It's a great show.

@@siobhanruane that’s cool, hopefully it will be a good show. Any chance of the production being professionally recorded? I’ve always wanted to see an original production of the show and I don’t live in Philly or Pennsylvania.

Casting a show isn’t about finding someone that’s identical to a film portrayal, it’s about finding someone that can be an adequate vessel for telling the story. These people are undeniably talented and if you have so much to say about it, why don’t you try playing one of these characters? See how much the world will criticize your performance like you’re someone that knows anything about the art of acting.

Well I just finished my first ever viewing of this show. I'll definitely have to do at least one rewatch before forming a opinion but I'm pretty confident in saying that none of the songs were memorable IMO. If I'm not singing or at least humming a tune from the show for the next few days after I see it that's a problem. On the plus side I REALLY enjoyed the FIGHT at the end. I think the arena vision was an excellent idea but having that makes it even harder to pull off the fight without the punches looking awful I'll say this much .... I

I mean I suppose. Alex Timbers is a brilliant director in terms of visionary theater. His shows are usually always brilliant to look at but lack any real substance. Also the music in this show is fucking terrible. How do you write "Journey to the past" and "Waiting for life" and then go on to write "my nose aint broken".?

That’s what cool about musical theatre. Not every song number is diegetic in the narrative. “Fight from the Heart” is non-diegetic because he isn’t saying his feelings out loud, but rather the song is externalizing his inner thoughts
