Positioning a Business for the Highest Value
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.День назад
Selling a business is not selling a pair of sneakers (no slight to VEJA, there is a closet full of them in my house) That said, the selling of a business is a progression of communication - building from what the business does, to why it is desirable, to why somebody would incur more pain by not acquiring it. In this video we discuss the three steps of this discussion and how we progress to the...
Business Valuation - Not Just EBITDA
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.14 дней назад
For business valuation, Earnings, Net Income, Profit, or EBITDA is where business value starts, not where it ends. Making difficult business decisions... The decisions in business aren't always between good and bad - Sometimes they're between good and excellent, sometimes between bad and worse. That said, the decisions need to be made nonetheless and burying our heads in the sand accomplishes nothing, if not causing harm in the delay. From our experience, there are five motifs or tenets of decision making t...
5 Things Not to Say When Selling Your Business (WARNING)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.21 день назад
Just as important as saying the right thing in selling your business is making sure you don't say the wrong thing. There are two sides to every coin and what can be pivotal can also be perceived as risk, therefore, the overall narrative and avoiding these things can be very helpful in moving a business exit in the right direction. #hillviewpartners

Selling a Company - More Pain Points and Avoiding Them

    Great wisdom---there's definitely an element of "faith" to what you're doing to build your business. Meaning, you have to do a lot of X to net some Ys---if you let up and get discouraged because the outcomes aren't immediate.......you'll definitely not see Ys.

    I retired at age 47, so I am in my early 50s. Many of them resisted me because they couldn't understand the idea of not working if it wasn't necessary. I considered the phases of my life. I worked very hard to achieve what I have now, but in my last years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses." In my instance, I departed the nation after retiring and currently reside in Latin America. It made it possible for me to appreciate my new surroundings while escaping all the bad things that were going on in America. Nobody that I know of regrets retiring has yet to come to me.

      Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.

    How does this work for a business like a hair salon where the gross revenue as it increases, the commission pay to the service provider also increases at a linear fashion? If we do four million in sales and pay 50% commission our cost of good sold is two, if we do 8 million in sales and pay 50% commission cost of good sold is four. obviously service and support staff remains the same as as rent, etc. but how can we get significant increases in this type of business? Thanks in advance love all your content, Peter.

    • @HillViewPartners
      @HillViewPartners 5 месяцев назад

      Appreciate the kind words Peter - If the payout ratio (percentage going to the producer) is consistent across an industry (i.e. in real estate or insurance brokerage), the real leverage on Revenues/Gross Profit will be building a brand/enterprise that people want to come work for/with. In doing so, top-line/Revenues will continue to grow and, even with a payout that remains the same percentage, it will ultimately extract more profit given there will be more Gross Profit contributing to mostly fixed Operating Expenses.

      @@HillViewPartners Hi Aurthur, I have been enjoying your videos so thanks again. The salons that I started have been in business for 33 years now so we definitely have a good reputation and people do want to work for us, but we struggle to be more profitable perhaps because of the business model or more importantly our pay model/structure but on the plus side, we have almost 0 turnover in an industry where the average length of tenure is around two years...

    What is the weight of LTM and NTM in EMM?

    • @minakh4814
      @minakh4814 6 месяцев назад

      The weight of LTM and NTM in EMM refers to the significance assigned to the current and projected earnings figures in the valuation calculation, influencing the final value estimate. Calculations related to EMM can be performed using the Checkotik calculator, where individuals can carry out these calculations for free and receive a report in return.

    Again, sage review of the various levels. A "sixth" tier we look for is the fifth-tier person that builds those same capabilities---very intentionally--within their own team. Most executives were great doers, but don't have the patience or see the investment of building their skills into the team's DNA. Typically, this is a BIG distinguisher between executives---especially if the executive talks about this without being prodded.
