Soprano Sundays : The Return of Maria Callas
12:18 The moment that you're waiting for
Very proud to know the lead guitarist Pete Callard. I love Northern Soul. I know it's not his favourite music. But he can play anything.
All great singers are different and for different reasons, but Caballé there is only one, forever in my heart.
26:10 = out of this world
Great upload and interview thanks!
Nailed it ! KTF 👊
When is Amira Willighagen to be included in the Proms season?
🇧🇬💐💞DIVA!!!🐘🍀 🌸WONDERFUL, BRILLIANT, ADORABLE!!!🦄 🪷🐞UNFORGETTABLE 🦋MAESTRA, BRAWISSISSISSIMO!!!🐝🏡🌞🌈♾️ 🎼🎶🎵🎶
Sometimes new ideas sound a little different to get used to,which kept me listening, loving the blending of both male & female voices.I liked its gentleness.
Cheers for putting this on yt. KTF.
I fell in love with this special kind of Soul Music and I fell even more in love with Levanna Mc Lean, who shows up her own love to this music and dance style. Watching her happy smile when she dances make the world a better place to be! Thank you so much for this! What music can do ... ❤
Thank God Lennie isn't alive now to see the ravages of post modernism.
Thumbs down for soprano and bass. Too much Wagner too early for Mr Howard ?
Thanks for all your work. I especially loved the overhead views that showed us the intricate handwork and thanks for focusing on the conductor who conducts with her facial expressions which adds to the performance.
I was there and it was horrible. The conductor was awful hence the absolute mess. However i think the choirs were good. You could feel the uncertainty in the singers sadly
39:30 talks about Callas
Stunning! Incredible! Getting through to the farthest corners of soul
Orrore!!!! Il soprano si è fatta una partitura tutta sua! ☹️
A Wonderful Musical Night ,Filled with Great Music And Amazing Artists.💥🎶🎶🎼🎼🥰🎺🎻🎻🎻🥁⭐️⭐️
I actually made it to the end of this... Guess its like a car accident; hard to look away. Horrible performance all the way through. Poorly trained choir with no unification. Those soloists were terrible...that Confutatis completely fell apart. I just feel bad for the soloist there... The soprano clearly struggled with her high notes and everyone was either coming in too early or missing cues completely. (though the conductor gave very poor cues to begin with) The tenor aria was perhaps the best part... The orchestra played wrong notes in many places and everyone was out of sync with each other throughout. It might come down to the fact that the conductor's conducting was also dreadful; very unclear.
Fantastic to Watch , thanks for the opportunity,🙏💥🎶💖
A refreshing and momentous Beethoven 5th. You can see and feel that every musician was giving his/her best and was enjoying his/her performance. Thanks also to the sound engineering team for the outstanding recording. Proud to be a HongKonger! Proud to be a Chan!
Absolutely stellar Beethoven's 5th, exemplary and innovative performance, unlike any other truly. In general the program was magnificent...
I enjoyed this interview though, I must confess, I spent the first minute thinking "put down that blasted cigarette".
Well, I was in the hall for this performance of a work I love, and it was impressive in all sorts of ways, and it's idiotic of people to dismiss it on the basis of hearing a youtube recording. True the Albert Hall is dreadful; no avoiding that.
Nice to hear you were there. I was too - in the choir. It certainly wasn't a perfect performance, but its quite amusing to see all the idiotic comments down here, all on the basis of a badly compressed video.
Not good at all.
Blimey I remember when Mars Bars tasted better! I think the Proms nailed it and has made it possible for a whole new audience young and old. Always Nay sayers try to be negative..
Or would they prefer it all dies when the last dancer is gone?
Elgar’s Chanson de nuit ♥

I could not understand it
Isata K.Mason is a magnificent pianist… I’ve watched her grow…. Incredibly talented, like all her siblings. How wonderful to have all your children be so musically gifted in their own way… well done, mum and dad!
Stupendous performance! Loved it.
it is 2024 and how come this video is blurry at 360p????????
From 1972. It's a nice show,. Quite a lot of the concepts are borrowed from L. Bernstein's Omnibus show on conducting, like starting with the orchestra playing without a conductor, comparing different Bach records etc., but Previn's dry wit is his own.
“Confutatis “ was very embarrasing. There had been other awkward moments by then. I gave up at minute 45
Proud of Hong Kong's young generation.
The Proms as envisaged by its founder Henry Wood offered ordinary people access to fine music. Now, it is an elite event with sky high prices and huge blocks of seats owned by millionaires. If you do manage to get in by some extraordinary manipulation of the BBC ballot you will probably have to stand.
Totally untrue, an immense lie; whatever is your purpose here? The Proms are the greatest value for music in London and the standing proms are still at a price which nobody would refuse- £8! The ballot applies only to the Last Night. You have obviously never been to a single Prom! Take your lies elsewhere or better still, shut up.
Mediocre to say the least. This magnificent music deserves and requires more. If any of the musicians involved are not willing/able to provide quality work, they should not be hired.
We should all follow your advice, sour apple
I have to agree with you there. I've seen the BBC National Orchestra of Wales a lot and they are mediocre like you said. Their chief conductor (who is conducting this piece) Ryan Bancroft, his interpretations can be quite mediocre and uninteresting, like this performance. The problem is, if you're going to perform Verdi's Requiem, you need to conduct Verdi's operas so you can truly understand style, and Bancroft is not an opera conductor, and that is one main reason why this is not a memorable performance
Perfection -
Yeah!!! It was wonderful to be their singjng Sir Jsmes' new choral work with the childrens and youth choir and Halle choir who I am so priveledged to sing with as a 'real' bass (2nd/low bass)!!! Thanks for this youtube It was a wonderful experience and way to say good bye to Sir Mark!!! Long life Sir Mark - the Halle - all we Halle singers - & thank you The Proms!!!! & BBC Radio 3 and Channel 4!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 6:47
The choirs in this massive concert are so many, which do sound quite magnificent, not to mention the number of instruments taking a massive part.
I stopped by to listen to 14:30 and was a little disappointed - the hall is too large to make a good effect and the orchestra trumpets are somewhat weak and out of tune.
A bit messy...... especially with such a large gathering of choirs it sounds not impressive at all. I'm not even sure if I will listen till the end, I can find much better performances of the requiem even here on youtube.
My personal favorite is the one with Karajan, Price, Cossotto, Pavarotti, and Ghiaurov.
Sam Smith? Definitely not classical music by any stretch.
The choirs sounded like they were just going through the motions.
So are you.
@@enriquesanchez2001 Ooooo, that’s deep. I’ve been roasted. 🤪
Très beau !
