So lucky my kids go to a catholic school here in Ireland, they wear school uniform's. they respect their peers, their teachers and themselves. My children are so well educated, at 11F and 13M they are more intelligent than most adults in USA

If you include the Bible you have to include other religious texts - which would bog down most classes. The only time I can see this idea is to apply it to a college curriculum, in which case it would be called World Religion. It's the only way to approach this issue on account of 1st amendment rights and others having a similar belief in regards to their religious scripts.

Idk i was taught in highschool about the history of the bible. The 95 theses, king james etc. Idk what shes talking about. The history of the bible was taught in public schools after the 60s.

Just not true, so many schools have you sing hymns, tell you god made the world in seven days etc, the prevalence of Christianity is still in schools, even in the uk where most people arent religous. There is also the subject of R.E where you learn about various religions and talk about basic philosophy, morality and various arguments. The fact is the bible is still heavily ingrained into society and heavily interwoven, just look at a courtroom. Children are still being indoctrinated to believe in Christianity, and the reality is most people would suddenly oppose the idea of the quran, or any other relgion, being taught to kids despite being the same principle. Most people know the basics of Christianity, just like people have understand the basic principles of science, the bible is still studied, but its in higher education, at universities, in certain pathways etc.

If the Bible is brought into schools, so should the Qur'an and LOTR.

What it IS is it violent and sometimes beautiful work that has inspired all kinds of things - but if you wanted to teach God, that’s not what school is for. And it’s not what my tax dollars are for.

The most important book in education is Newton’s Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. The Bible is a highly unreliable source of information. The Wikipedia of its day, so to speak. Id like to edit beforehand, yes, Wikipedia has changed for the better and has, unlike the bible, become more of a reliable tool.

We don't study the Bible because frankly, we don't need to study non-secular literature more than other more appropriate texts that don't endorse slavery or rape culture, or more scientific texts that state the truth of human evolution and the complexity of human existence. The Bible tells you of a God whose existence is proven, and all religious manuscripts tell you to believe that to push their agenda. Secularism is the way forward.

Tbh if you're reading the bible in a class, you also need to read other religious texts and pick each of them apart, in the same way. Teach EVERYONE to think critically about ALL RELlGIONS and to know what's in each book. You can't make an argument for just one book and not the rest, because they're all important

For people who are not Christian, the Bibsource. Complete work of fiction, NOT history. Most of what is written in the bible is unverifiable by any other source. Teaching the Bible in a literature class or as part of a comoarative religions class is defensible in a secular education system.

You don't understand that the bible is not educational. It has no facts. It is all opinion, belief, and imagination. It is not literature to teach it as fiction either.

As an atheist, I agree with her. It should be studied both as a literature piece and for its historical significance. People literally started wars and burned people alive over that book. We should at the very least try to understand why. Edit: Whoa! I didn't mean to start a theological debate on the existance of God down here. I personally don't care if God exists or not. That's a personal choice of each one of us and I have no interest in fighting for either side. What's undeniable is that the Bible, more than any other book, has had a profound impact on the history of humanity (particularly on the Western side of the world). You may personally like it or not, but that's a historical fact. And it should be studied as such. That does not mean that we should force any religion on anyone, because again, it's a personal and free choice. But history must be studied objectively, even when it involves personal and subjective matters like religion.

If you take an early college class in western civilization, or that teacher also teachers a high school level version of their college history content, you will read the Bible. The kids don’t know what to do with it. You also get information on the development of the church up to the Protestant reformation. Unfortunately, if you’re in a more liberal area, this will receive backlash. I had a school pull my history class because they were pro woke policies. My community college and the charter said we don’t do identity politics, but the principal did, and they were listening to a very small group of kids on campus. Also when I was in high school I took a Bible class as an elective. Some schools do offer this information but they make the content opt in. They don’t want to push it on atheists or non Christians because they are protected by the constitution. Though the first amendment was written by Christians for Christians who did not want government to cause another Protestant Reformation (where subjects had to change from being Protestant Christian to Catholic Christian all because a new royal was in power). The original meaning of the law would allow religious plurality or a diverse view for one religion without being killed, imprisoned, losing lands or heavily fined (to the point of social death and social destitution).
