2022 Maine Spring Turkey Bow Hunt
Просмотров 3952 года назад
My good friend Eric and I decided to start recording our hunting and fishing adventures. This is our first attempt. We both decided to hunt with bows this year. Eric is hunting with a Hoyt Rx7 compound bow. I am hunting with a Black Widow recurve. Sorry for the language we were both pretty excited about this hunt.

First shot of the day with my Freedom Arms M83 in 475 LInebaugh. shooting at 30 yards with light loads. even with light loads it was still too much for this steel target.

Shooting some light loads in my Freedom Arms M83 in 475 Linebaugh. shooting a 400gr WFN at roughly 850 fps. Distance is about 30 yards.
Randomly came across the video, saw chris, then clint, and justin and thought shit, i know those guys! Haha. Good work guys
Glad you found it!!! I met them at the first shoot I ever went to. And we’ve been able to meet up and shoot together a few times!!
It looks like a giant spade , oh it's a arrow couldn't tell for a min
looks like that one guy is shooting the sanlida royal x8 longbow. am i mistaken or correct??
All the longbows in this video are Bear Montanas.
i love these 3d shoot trails....im hoping to find some in my area but im highly doubting they exist around here unfortunately. my area isnt the best area for outdoor activities especially ones categorized around hunting or shooting unfortunately. bunch of yupps around here with no desire to get outdoors or shoot anything haha even as sport like targets. so getting something like a 3d trail is highly unlikely
Keep the faith. There aren’t many in Maine so you have to be willing to travel a little bit. But more interest will only help the community grow. Thanks for watching!!
Great video ❤ just started archery myself in Portugal but we dont have those amazing conditions to practice 😢
This looks like a beautiful place to go shoot, wish we had something like this in my area.
Good times, thanks.
thats good shooting thank you for the video I will be watching 😃
Thanks for checking it out. I hope to have another video or two up pretty soon.
Tab used?
I am using a safari tuff split finger tan.
A fella told me once it’s the most fun you can do with your cloths on. And I believe it’s true 😊
It’s an absolute blast!! Wish I could do it more often.
500 spine arrows
Love traditional. Would be interesting if they would called out the yardages.
I’ll bring a range finder for the next one. Thanks for watching
Aim?
I shoot instinctive.
The instinctive shots were very inconsistent. You could tell the one guy in the group that aims was very consistent and could go hunting ethically with his bow. The rest of the guys should not shoot at live animals. But it looked like a fun shoot.
@@samgauvine7816 I won’t be shooting at animals bud, I was shooting for fun, I use a 243 for deer not a bow, instead of negative stuff why don’t you encourage to learn more or practice🙏
Funny how for 100,00 odd years, mankind used bows instinctively at close range to hunt and for defense, yet now some people like to constantly preach about ethics. This was a 3D shoot.
@@Saltwatercrackers34434 The name of the game is FUN ... personally if I'm not having fun with my archery no matter how good or bad my shots are, I would find a new hobby/ sport! And the best thing about watching this video is that you all looked like you were enjoying it! That to me is the name of the game! Thanks for sharing this and God bless you all. PS the only negative thing I could say about this shoot is that I wasn't there!
Always liked 3D shoots almost as much as plain stump shooting
I enjoy stump shooting as well. I might do a stump shooting video in the future
Looks like some of the 3/D shoots I have been on before. A lot of 5's, and some misses, but still a fun shoot with folks that don't take it too seriously.
Great to see guys get out side and shoot bows! Love it.
Seen you up there this year, great shooting and good video!
Thank you sir!!! Any idea if they’re doing a winter shoot?
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman not sure yet. I should get an email if so. If not, will hope for Spring.
We’ll done to all. Great video.
Thanks buddy
Jordan, some nice shooting bud.
Thank you sir hope to see you again at the next shoot
Well done Sir, well done!
The old man in the blue has a wicked bald spot, may I advise him getting a wig?
Perhaps instead of a wig he needs a Crossbow so he can hit something. :)
Thank you I’m glad you like it.
ETAR 2024...
Hey Jordan. It was nice meeting you yesterday at the shoot. Nice video, and great job at the shoot yesterday. I look forward to seeing your next video. Filming is something ive been wanting to do myself. Maybe next year I'll finally start.
It was a pleasure meeting you. I sat down this morning to start editing. I am hoping the club does a winter shoot this year. I’d love to try filming that with a larger group of shooters.

Man I want in... how much?
I think it’s maybe 10 dollars to enter. They have another shoot coming up. July 8/9 it’s going to be a 2 day event but I’ll probably only be able to make one day.
Good 👍
I know that course very well from my time as a member of the Maine Traditional Archers. Thanks for sharing!
Over shooting in my area is called.."Chopping Timber"!
😂😂
what a beautiful range. Totally opposite to what is in southenr Arizona...
Maine is vastly different. But Arizona has its gifts as well.
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman Gifts???s rattle snske behind every rock or a scorpion or a drug runner ??? If those are gifts..we can do without them. Arizona is not a good place to be!!!
@@raginroadrunner yeah I meant the saguaro cactus and the Chiricahua mountains.
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman Both of those are worthless.
White tee shirt guy was struggling to pull the one bow back. His arm was shaking on a lot missed shots after the first few targets, but switching bows with is father seemed to help. Probably was a lighter draw? Blue shirt with the Black Widow was shooting like a damn champ though.
Thanks for the compliment!!! The guy in the white tee shirt hadn’t shot in quite a while but he went out and gave it his best just the same. Snow has melted away in Maine so hopefully I can take the Widow to another match soon. Thanks for watching!!
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman Aye! Thanks for the content. It's gets kinda hard to find good fun archery on youtube. Keep it up man!
Guys with short bows never get to full draw
These videos are much more enjoyable when you show where the arrows landed as well as shut Lefty
That last word should be shot
Thank you for the feedback. There should be another shoot coming up soon. I’ll film it from a left side perspective and see if I can incorporate some sort of action camera for shot placement footage.
Who goes to get the arrows on missed 3D's ?? You can't just leave them there. The guy in the white tee shirt was a terrible shot I don't think he hit even one target.
After the group is done shooting we all walk down range together to pull arrows and help others find their arrows. I think his father said he hadn’t shot a bow in 2 years. But he still came out and gave it a try.
Dan, have you ever been to a 3D shoot? Ever shot a bow? Missing and hunting for arrows is half the fun. You may want to watch the video again... the kid nailed quite a few right out of the gate. Everyone misses. That is why it's a challenge to shoot traditional recurves and longbows without sights, string walking or 2 foot stabilizers. Not everyone goes to the range to win a trophy. Some of us just enjoy having fun.
Beautiful range, good shooting guys,, looks like a lot of fun.
Thank you!! This is the only 3D range over ever been to. I still have a lot to learn but it sure is a lot of fun.
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman I live overseas so no ranges here, I shoot trad on my 2.5 acre hobby farm. Next time I come to Maryland or Florida I plan on giving it a try. There is a range near my son in laws place near Baltimore.
I appreciate not having to look at idiots using bows with gizmos attached to them like sights, scopes, stabilizer bars and what not. What's the furry balls you have attached to the strings?
Those are wool string silencers. They just help to quiet the bow down a bit.
On the Bear longbow, Kodiak Magnum and Supermagnum 48 we have "Beaverballs" from 3 Rivers Archery attached.
Nice shooting, Jordan!
Thanks Fred!!!
Thanks for all of the replies to my questions . . . one more if you don't mind. Do you know of any Traditional Archery 3-D Ranges in the Sherman-Island Falls-Houlton area? Thanks again. Fred
I don’t know of any trad ranges in the area. I heard there was one in houlton but it has since closed.
Where in Maine is the 3-D Range located? Everything seems to be located south of Bangor!
This range is in Durham in between Brunswick and Lewiston. I know Old Town Archery has an indoor range but I don’t think they have anything set up for outdoor. That’s probably the closest to Bangor.
Any chance someone could just mention the bows that were used by brand name and poundage?
The long bow being used is a Bear Montana pulling #35. The two smaller recurves are I think Bear Kodiak Mags at #40/45. My bow is a Black Widow PCHX drawing #50.
@@TheOkayestOutdoorsman Thanks, appreciate your reply. One of the bows shows the deer burr knobs on the belly side of the riser/limbs . . . usually they are on the back side . . . was curious about their location . . . is that the Black Widow bow?
@@resoluteretreat1532 Yes sir that’s the Black Widow. The limbs attach to the belly side of the riser as well.
Black Widow as mentioned & Bear Montana 35#, Vintage Bear early 70's green Kodiak Magnum 45# and 2021 Bear Supermag 48 in 40#.
Interesting video being from ME!!! Suggestions on places to go try out some trad bows since I’m about to switch over from compounds?
Great video. Well done . I liked the intro and the slow mo shots
Thanks buddy!! Can’t wait to do it again.
First! Good shootin bud!
Good shootin'
Nice Tom! Congratulations
Thank you very much!!
Awesome shot!!
Pretty happy with his performance. He didn’t let that miss get into his head at all.
Are you in Arizona?
Sixgunning.com no I was in West Texas.
Yeah. It was the hottest load I had fired yet. I had to convince him to shoot it.
