Summertime berth
End of August berth. The river entrance is full of pleasure crafts but the weather is excellent so it´s very easy to pilot this lady straight into the dredged channel

Impecables. Easter Sunday berth

This lady came into the river port early in the morning, the same day the daylight saving time entered in force. Absolute pleasure to pilot her towards her berth with this weather
Boarding a Chemical Tanker

This lady came into port in mid-January. Of all the ships calling this port, chem tankers are the ones that I dislike the most. Very false boarding, bad stability and a low freeboard with a short pilot ladder Anyway this time was smooth even with wind waves coming from the bow. A little deviation from the leading light's course to grant me some lee Friendly Day by Kevin MacLeod is licensed unde...

Here I am, leaving a panamax once she is clear from the berth and proceeding outside of the breakwater. Also paying attention on how the trainee pilot is disembarking. Retrieval line was wrong. It was fastened below the first spreader and pointing aft, but once the pilot boat advised us and given the weather conditions, we decided to move on
Another reverse berthing

This lady is a Right-handed CPP lady, with a fish-tail rudder (up to 60º) and a Bow Thruster of 750kw so although port rules demand to use tugboats for berthing, she easily could do the maneuvering by herself. Indeed tug usage was halted until the very last part of the operation. This time the cam was´t clogged with humidity Speed is 12x

We are in October but the weather is still excellent so it was a pleasure to board this lady Ambler - Video Classica by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1300019 Artist: incompetech.com/
Berthing with Beaufort 5 from the starboard bow

This lady came in the late afternoon into the port, she is an FPP right handed with a not so powerful bow thruster, but we managed to put her alongside in a safely manner and ready to load dry cargo in bulk
Reverse berthing

This was one of the few occasions that a ship with bridge on the bow came into port, so I had to turn her 180 degrees in order to approach the berth. Unfortunately some humidity came inside the cam and the last part of the berth operation is not visible as the cam was clogged Speed, as usual, is 12X
Berthing a coaster at real speed with voice commands

Today, instead of the typical 12x video with music, I decided to go REAL, uncut and unmodified for the last part of the passage until she got the first line ashore. This lady is a FPP Gearbox right-handed with a bow thruster of only 165kw and two steps (50% and 100%). Enough to pilot her to the right spot at the designated berth
Berthing a Panamax at dawn

Size limit of the port is Panamax, specially regarding draft: 12.5m and only during high water hours, so I had to wake up at 3 am to take this lady in. Speed is 12x and it's only a part of the operation, since it normally takes 2h and 30 minutes to go 3 nautical miles out, board the ship, bring her in with the tugboats and to declare all fast FWE
Berthing early in the morning

Right after the sunrise I was called to take in this lady: CPP left-handed, with a really powerful bow thruster and a fish tail rudder, up to 60 degrees. Nice and easy, as the wind kept blowing from the starboard side slowly pushing us towards the berth

Another Point Of View of the pilot boarding operation. Ship was ordered to proceed at 6-7 knots of speed and the ladder was requested 2m above the water on the lee side for shelter Music: Exciting Trailer by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100494 Arti...
Sunday berthing with wind from the starboard side beam
Просмотров 245Год назад
Just another coaster which came into port for dry cargo in bulk. She is a nice FPP gearbox right handed lady with a Bow thruster control divided in 3 steps to each side It was an easy job. Wind from the beam made it all. I just kept an eye on her drifting speed to avoid an excessive inertia Speed is 12x

Can't believe they are still using this old dangerous method of boarding ships in these conditions.
Pretty dramatic , probably a good example of how not to undertake this task. Deck hand has no pfd, approcahes ladder on the wrong side of the pilot boat , not clipped into any sort of safety system , no helmet . Cleats on the pilot boat deck risk snagging the ladder , especially when its bunching on the deck the way it is . Ship looks as though it has a significant roll...I' d be looking to turn the ship to get a better lee if I was them . It's a bit of a health and safety nightmare really.
You are 100% right.
Crew member should not be on the inboard side, It doesn't look like he has a life jacket on, he should be taking the slack ladder off of the deck. there are no man-ropes, and the cox did not try to lock the cutter onto the larger vessels side, if he had that would have stopped the ranging up and down. I would have no confidence in the man on deck he looks terrified. Lastly that pair of bits should not be there the ladder could get hung up on them.
I totally agree with you.
Thank you, where are yoy stationed? I worked in the I.o.W. pilotage area.
THAT would have to be the most unseaworthy non classifaction society aft cabin door I have ever seen. Looks like it should be on the caravan .
It´s a 2000´s Rodman 39 pilot boat fully certified. Buoyancy is granted by what´s under deck ( three different watertight compartments). Plus, we don´t operate in really heavy seas because the entrance is a 80m wide dredged channel and we´re restricted so, to have a fully equipped Halmatic or Safehaven is not required/waste of money

Can you NOT put music on recordings , If anybody wishes to have music then they can put it on themselves.
Like it or not, this is how it works: My recordings, my edits. U are free to move onto another video from another person.
I worked in the Pilotage dept for Trinity House for 20 years and never once heard music as we went alongside, it gives the wrong impression.
@@bazra19no intention on being rude pal but, honestly, I don't care about the impression given to you, nor your cv. I have other marine pilots following me and they are enjoying these clips
@@marinepilotpov There is every chance they have not the years and experience I have, and so it’s the blind leading the blind. But at my age of 83 it is difficult to hear what is being said. Safety rules are being broken. This is a serious matter and needs to be addressed sensibly. Where all young pilots could learn from the more experienced.
@@bazra19 hold on: Do you really believe that the music is actually being played live on the pilot boat while recording the video and not added later using a PC? Dude...🤔
Where are you from❤❤
❤❤❤
A little much with the music don't you think?
It's perfect that way.
I agree, I'd rather hear the sea and engine. Too much music.
Awesome job!
Thanks for the visit
