Sony CRF-150 Portable Radio with AM (MW), LW, SW and FM bands. It is feature filled with separate tone controls for bass and treble, separate tuning control knobs for FM and other bands. Also equipped with a tuning meter. 5 push buttons, looks like they are for preset stations. Seems like a rare model by Sony. In this era they made only very high quality models. This is the first time i see this model. The title of this video is written as " 80 meter AM on Sony CRF-150". But any ordinary viewer cannot understand this. Only when i read your description written below this video, i began to understand what this means. Please clarify the title.

Hey is this at the south end of the lake? I haven't been back to Otter beach in a long time so I can't tell which area of the lake it is because I forget. We used to go up there every summer when I was a kid, back when the Hershey Factory was still there. Our cottage was at the far North end of the lake and for anyone wondering, it really is a great place to get away to :)

I've got the same rig. Where do you get the side plates to attach the tuner and receiver together.

So basically, the R5 is a waste of money? Where is it deaf? Below 30 MHz? IMHO, I don't think held-held devices lend themselves very well to the HF/MF/LF or SWL Bands, because of antenna limitations. I'd mainly be interested in the Aviation (Commercial & Military) Bands, Railroad, some of the low-power comm's (i.e. FRS/GMRS/MURS), & perhaps some Sat-com military transmissions. Sleuthing-out some of the ATCS Frequencies (896 - 954 MHz), would be by-far much easier, with a handheld radio, that has a decent Signal Strength Meter, & a 800/900 MHz Yagi-type antenna. I've thought about picking-up a scanner on ebay, and building a S-Meter into it, but getting the parts with the likes of Radio Shack gone, only serves to make things more problematic. I'll concede that the migration to digital comm's has devalued much of the radio gear out there, but there is still a need for quality analog gear; especially triple conversion equipment (low IMD, good sensitivity, & good selectivity). An analog receiver, with a quality spectrum display, would still be a handy tool these days. Just my two bits on the subject.

If the 570 series had a decent NB, it would be pretty nice, but the NB is non-functional and the NR distorts the receive signal too much (unless the signal is S-9 plus). I really like the 570, easy to use, but wish it had a useable NB (need that for just about all noise issues).

What a neat 6 meter HT!

The R5 is as deaf as my aunt mary on 50 percent of its advertised band coverage. Might as well buy the R2 instead and eliminate what you can't hear with this dud.

I have this scanner and its a good one. The trouble is that the glory days of scanning have long gone. Unless you like listening to aviation like I do then they are bloody boring. When I first bought one in the early 1990s I could pick up mobile phones, police, ambulance, fire and loads more. I really miss those days of listening to drug dealers on mobile phones or police car chases.
