Defence of the Danzig Polish Post Office
On the 1st of September 1939, at the start of the Second World War, German forces attempted to seize the Polish Post Office in the Free City of Danzig. What would follow was a fifteen hour long siege as the the Polish Postmen refused to surrender and instead hold out for aid that would never come.

There's terrific old Polish movie about these events and those leading to them - "Wolne Miasto / Free City". Highly recommended.
Technically, Poland wasn't young nation - it was "just" state reborn after 120+ years of nonexistance. Curiously, Post office held longer than Belgian Fort Eben Emal... PS: exceptionally well narrated and put together. Liked and honorary sub earned!

Quite a few SS units were excreble. What began in terms of recruitment as the so called " best of the best" of the "Aryan brotherhood" devolved into SS units composed of anyone who they could fit into a uniform, all supposed to be fighting for the "New Crusade in Europe" and other such ideological nonsense

Interesting, but the footage is often completely unrelated to the material. Such as footage from the Pacific theater, Gun camera footage from American aircraft, etc. Better coordination of footage to narrative is needed.

That’s the unfortunate truth really. Many of these men were abused as children and as a result displayed deviant tendencies as adults.
This unit was despised by even their own fellow SS. They were truly despicable particularly their commander SS Brigadefuhrer Oskar Dirlewanger.
He had a certain aesthetic I can't put my finger on.

Why did their opening picture show them in US uniforms ?
Much of that was random footage, one point they were displaying British WWI soldiers in action , other showed Americans from WW2. The irritating bit is they showed footage of Normal Heer soldiers that were not part of Dirlewanger's abortion of a unit.
Watched alot of you tube vids on this unit. This is BY FAR the best of the best! Great video, thank you for creating and posting!
