Very informative thank you sir you are greatly appreciated in the reptile community 🫡
can they eat dog pellets?
@@LêNhậtMinh-t7o physically yes they can but they are not the best quality.
@@blazinbluetongues but have u tried feeding that to ur skinks before? and do u sprinkle calcium or vitamin on it? if yes then d3 or not if i dont use uv light
@@LêNhậtMinh-t7o I personally haven’t I’ve heard of a few choking on it. I know they do in Australia. Yeah if you don’t have UV, you’ll want calcium with D3.

Great video!
In MI, I never see any for sale at the reptile shows. Only geckos and ball pythons. BTS doesn’t seem to be popular around here. How is the market at your local shows?
@@EvilKaNegro for the longest time you didn’t need to do shows, and they would fly off the market. More and more smaller breeders are coming in at other states. The less expensive does good some of the higher not the best being smaller shows.
@@EvilKaNegro you’ll see more now at smaller shows until export reopens from smaller breeders to resellers who get wholesale
Yeah the only ones I see are wild caught/born Indonesian species.
That's very insightful! On a related note, are there any methods to determine the gender of a baby blue-tongued skink?😊
That's very insightful! On a related note, are there any methods to determine the gender of a baby blue-tongued skink?
@@VerdieHudgens nothing really reliable when very young. As they age you can get a decent idea based off body features. Males have bulky wider heads and longer tails.
it never once occurred to me that there would be a market for specific reptiles, cause I'm not even a reptile keeper, but thinking about it, it makes perfect sense given each species is a different kind of pet. Cats and dogs have wildly different markets, ignoring the fact that even specific breeds of dogs have vastly different landscapes of supply and demand, so of course each species of reptile is gonna have a unique market profile that evolves over time. Anyways I don't know why I'm here, but I'm glad I am cause reptiles are cool and it never hurts to stay educated about diverse markets.
@@MrBlack0950 always great to learn more! Gets more complex when some can’t be exported out of their country of origin like Australia.
good video
Very overweight girl
That’s awesome! Would love to try this out, I appreciate so much you showed the FULL process
Back rubbing kills me 🤣🤣
I really love the whole earth farms and nulo! I’ve been thinking of trying some of the frozen brands as well. Thanks for the video Alex!
Cool idea
Awesome job
I really like Nature's Logic and Whole Earth Farm brands of dog food. A can last about 3 weeks for 3 adult bts, and it freezes great. Supplement with snails and eggs, and my guys seem to be thriving off of it. Thanks for the video Alex!
@@andrewheckler3245 Thanks Andrew sounds like you’re offering great variety! Glad they’re doing great!
I appreciate this video. I only have one bts so I do get quail eggs, bluey buffet, and many other things but was always worried about choosing the best dog food.

Happy New Year! Drove up and purchased a juvenile from you last summer and it has definitely had crabbier moments around shed time or when it brumated for a little bit but over time has been so much better and really sweet (as long as I don’t smell like food because Pumpkin will go after my fingers lol) We adore the little dude

merry christmas
@@JayOberholtzer-h3n thanks you too Jay!
Hi Alex I have a question. I live in Staten Island, NY and start brumation right after Thanksgiving and then breed in February. Are you brumating and breeding early due to your weather is colder, earlier? If it is. Thanks your Blues are beautiful. I am loving the Pitch Black line and wss happy to have 24 Pitch Black babies born with gorgeous yellows and oranges on their sides. I just recently named one of the babies Mango because of the deep color of a ripe mango. Ok, take care. Keep up the great things you are doing.
@@christinaserrone7023 hey ya mine start going off food in September. Especially from how dramatic the cold weather swings can be. Freezing lows combination of the ambient swings from air conditioning to keep the room temperature down under 80. Then heat to keep it warmer. Last year had to turn the air conditioning on to try to brumate longer. Are both parents pure pitch black?
First thank you for responding. Yes, both parents are Pitch Black and gorgeous. I just and always have love black and black and white animals and never saw or knew black bluey existed excited. I have gorgeous reds, golds that hurt your eyes looking at them when the sun shines on them. Alex, I love your videos and always look forward when you have your podcasts. Again, thank you. Have a Happy New Year to you and yours and I hope all your females took.
Sorry Alex, just realized a typo, I had 14 Pitch Black born, not 24. Sorry.
@@christinaserrone7023 14 is a great number! Have you noticed any underbites as they aged?
Maybe videos on taming mean juveniles. Are some just mean and defensive by nature and stay that way. That would be cool vid topics. Merry Christmas homie!
@@EvilKaNegro thanks very good idea can definitely work on one.
Looking great my friend
Thanks hope you have a great holiday season!
Awesome setup and great video! I'm hoping to learn as much as I can about baby racks to prepare in case my skinks have babies
The calmest breeding session I've ever seen, LOL I'd be so much happier if my pairings went like this every time.
@@scalycrew not all but so far a good amount. I still say on some another day or mate
Is it breeding season already? I start around March
@@shaygman1 depends where you live it gets cold in September here and they start brumating. So thanksgiving they’re starting to wake up.
Awesome video as always Alex 😊 I usually intervene in helping out the male at times, but that only has to do with my impatience more than anything 😅😂

Close blue tongue skink tiny legs
I am unsure how to handle mine, i believe i got mine as a late juvie and over the month he has grown, but still mostly hides away. I am in the room with it 5 days out of 7 but ive had no chance to socialize with him because if i try and open the enclosure, he runs straight for his hide. I have been able to tong feed him and he has taken to that but any attempts to get any closer is met with him sprinting back inside. On top of this he doesnt really use his basking spot unless i am not in the room and again, if i enter, he runs straight back inside. My skink has been identified as a Halmahera so likely to have been wild caught. Any tips on working on the trust?
@@hawwy1987 hey some have luck putting a worn Tshirt in the enclosure used to the sent. If you have a glass enclosure try covering the sides soot feels more comfortable out. Another option is the more hands on approach. Some just you have to get it out. Try working with it out of the enclosure. Walking it through your hands or can sit with it in your lap. You can put a tubon your lap to try also
@@blazinbluetongues I have been doing the hands on approach, but using a set of feeding tongs to lift his front a little before sliding my hand under, as getting under with my hand ends up mostly with just clumps of dirt.. He huffs about it and runs away a bit but once he is out, he is absolutely fine. I believe we have made great progress from 2 months ago. Thanks for the advice
Awesome bro, definitely buying a new tub this weekend

Sweet video bro 🤙🏽. Mine hisses at his food. 3 months old. Aggressive little bugger
Looks like an amazing mix
I really wish in Australia we had pedigrees - then like dogs and cats you could see the background of the animals
@@connectwithyourdeck you can start yourself recording lineages. We have all ours in a spreadsheet.
@@connectwithyourdeck can go further figure out a dna test for eastern northern etc
I record all my pairings - but my project is much more simple - I’m breeding alpines for deep colour - so nothing exotic - I don’t think we have dna testing available in Australia yet…….
I love Cunninghams too but too cranky for me lol all my friends in the hobby just told me no - not for you lol
I’d be interested to know with mixing localities especially Northern and Eastern what happens to keeping requirements
@@connectwithyourdeck requirements of those are the same pretty much. Easterns can tolerate colder brumation but keeping the same parameters
My parings happen October in Melbourne- babies Feb March - so all different to Queensland
Depends where you are in Australia I’m down in Melbourne and we are having a fabulous spring with everything happening as it should - weather gradually warming up - and it’s now 1st of November and my girls are out basking in- won’t be long we will know for sure if we will have babies….
I hope you all have enjoyed the show with John!
You can’t see them can you find racks in the wild.
@@JohnDillon-zh7js I appreciate your concern captivity is different than the wild. There’s lines tracing back from the early 1900s. to the point they could have different DNA from the wild animals found today.
So nice! I just got one today😊
