Identity, me/him, her/she is a symbol of group identity, of postmodernism thought processing. It demonstrates to others you are in a tribe that doesn't like traditional "values" which in truth means behavior. Group identity is a way of forming predictable behavior patterns so people can relax and become comfortable, they know what will happen next so the brain can switch off, habits that work begin to form, a huge deal with groups doing important work. If one is being continuously surprised and being forced to think under pressure or even spontaneously readjust ones own behavior, it causes tremendous individual and then group stress which either leads to OCD and mental health problems, or the rather strange process of allowing ones identity to fall away. This shedding of the ego can go two ways. Trance, hypnosis, mental slavery to another persons will, or meditation, embodiment and gnosis, the profound direct experience of the ever more subtle laws of physics which have variously been called God or absorption. This means that any group that holds identity as sacred is doomed at the outset. The only way that identity can become functional as a group belief framework is through draconian control or the much more subtle drug and fear withdrawal of social approval game. All groups that play this game without having the shedding of ego narrative inside them are dangerous and what used to be called "evil", not for moral, but for functional reasons to do with how beings process information and experiences within groups. Most intelligent people would much rather imagine "they" are in control of their actions and habits than admit the scary truth. Physics is in charge, and the language of physics which is maths is not capable describing fundamental problems of time, meaning and identity, so language is not even real as an objective form of communication. It is the energy of physics that surround every narrative and is ignored at terrible cost to anyone who forgets.
