The Insane Society: The Pathology of Normalcy and the Necrophilous Orientation in Today’s World
Social Psychologist Erich Fromm believed it is possible for an entire society to become insane. Such insanity is indicated, as with individuals, when there is a general disassociation from reality and the expression of self-destructive and sociopathic behaviors. In this sermon I’ll discuss why I believe Fromm’s ideas apply to today’s world, including and especially to the situation in the U.S.

The Spirituality of ‘76: Is it Enough to Base our Religion On?
Просмотров 158 часов назад
It is frequently assumed that a deep devotion to Enlightenment principles makes one a Humanist, and, therefore, isn’t “very spiritual.” It is also asserted that human dignity, reason, freedom, and tolerance, therefore, cannot be the basis of a meaningful religion because these are simply too shallow, too mundane, and too uninspiring to give our lives purpose. A Tale of Two Pauls: Who Was Christianity’s Most Important Apostle and What Did He Really Have to Sa

The Apostle Paul has been called the true founder of Christianity. Yet the New Testament writings attributed to him hold many contradictions, sometimes suggesting he was a radical free spirit who included everyone and permitted just about anything, and sometimes that he was rigid, unforgiving, authoritarian, and misogynistic. In this sermon, we’ll consider what is authentic Paul and what isn’t.

In this particular sermon, Dietrich discusses the significance of what Christmas,...
The Good News: Who Was Jesus and What Did He Really Have to Say?

Roughly 2,000 years ago, the Roman authorities executed a young Jewish man named Jesus. Even this much we don’t know with certainty, yet there has been more said about him than any other person in history. In this sermon, we’ll consider what I think is the most plausible explanation of who the historic Jesus really was and what was so good about his good news.
Human Prejudice: Take One Look and You’ll See All You Need to Know
Просмотров 824 часа назад
We’ve all been taught that prejudice is wrong and that we should never judge a book by its cover. But there is one type of prejudice we should have, human prejudice. Whatever else we see or think we see when looking at others, there is one thing we immediately know about everyone; that all of them, every last one, is a human being and deserves to be treated as such, with worth and dignity.

Rod Serling, one of America’s most highly awarded and famous television writers and producers was also a Unitarian. In this sermon, we’ll learn more about Serling...
