Performance videos from Seattle in the 1980's and '90's featuring some of Seattle's more experimental musicians. These are projects that I was involved in, and sometimes someone would videotape a performance and give me a copy. There were many other musicians in various experimental genres in Seattle in the 1980's and 90's (and now), but I do not have tapes of them. These are documents of a small part of the music scene in Seattle at that time.
There are also some more current videos, as they become available.

Light Festival Video 2024
This video was created for the Portland Winter Light Festival, February 2025, and the light art festival in Burien, WA, September 2024. The theme for the Portland festival is "A Light for Tomorrow: A Technicolor Future". I focused on architecture, design, light, and color- the images were shot on my iPhone in Seattle, Washington DC, and on a cruise ship, and edited together in Adobe Premier- no CGI. The Burien festival asked for a soundtrack, so I created one- my first attempt at composing in Ableton Live. Thank you to the festival coordinators for the invitation.

Rob Angus - Portland show

This is the video I projected during a recent concert at Woodstock Ukulele Studio in Portland, OR. I did not record the show, so the soundtrack is from one of my rehearsals, recorded live. For this show, I played a variety of acoustic instruments into loopers, processed them with a bit of reverb and delay, and sent them into a 4 channel surround-sound system so the sounds slowly swirled around ...

On June 4, 2022, Rob Angus performed with Jeff Greinke at the Chapel Performance Space in Seattle. Rob opened with a solo set of kinetic, ambient atmospheres- these are the last two pieces. Rob plays acoustic instruments into digital loopers, layers and slows down the loops , and sends them into a six channel surround sound system, so the sounds are slowly circling the audience (percussion goes...

Excerpts from a solo concert at the Chapel Performance Space, Seattle, on April 9, 2022. I had planned to do pieces composed for two Mirage sampling keyboards back in the '90s, but one of the keyboards died the morning of the show. I ended up improvising on acoustic instruments and a synth, going into loopers and a four channel surround system. The projections were designed for the sampler piec...

Brief demo of a proposed installation for a Light Art Festival in Seattle in August. 10' satellite dish with projections of rotating planets. 12' wide 'wings' of cloth strips suspended by bamboo tripods, with abstract projections. Kinetic sound field created by ambient acoustic sound loops slowly circling the audience in a 4 channel surround sound system. Eric Muhs and Rob Angus set this up in ...

This is a brief demo of sounds and images in my current performances. All sounds are acoustic, played and looped live, then slowed down and sent through a surround-sound system, moving slowly around the audience. The instruments in this demo are bamboo flutes, ocarina, toy train whistle, plastic tube, trombone, and percussion. Most of my pieces are atmospheric, but some are more melodic and som...

Two excerpts from a solo performance using acoustic instruments, a microphone, 3 digital loopers, digital processing, a mixer, and a 4-channel surround sound system. The first piece uses a melodica, the second has percussion, ocarina, bamboo flute, sound toys, trombone and tubes. Percussion and melodies are sent to the front channels only; drones, rattles, etc. circle around the room or bounce ...

Jeff Greinke, synthesizer and sampler, and Rob Angus, sampling keyboards. Live at a 'rave' party at the Basement, a loft in Pioneer Square, Seattle, around 1996. Jeff's synth work is wild- no laptops here. This was part of our 'cloudhouse' project- mostly ambient groove and trip-hop, but there were a few rockers. Cloudhouse started as an ambient groove band, went through 2 lineup changes, and e...

Is that Carlyn Tucker in the opening sequence (directing viewer to land on the band)?
Duh, now I see yes in Rob's description. Thanks for putting this up!
fuck I loved these guys, wish they's stuck around a bit
do you have a tab for this?
i lookin' for Color Anxiety discography. Somebody knows about it?
I remember this from Bombshelter Videos. Back when Seattle was a great arts and music town, before the yuppies destroyed it.
Metaphonics! great '80s Seattle band. Ritual meets Industrial. It's great to see this... wish I'd been at the show.
Haha, I think I remember this one from Bombshelter Videos and "Alar on my apples". I just watched "Shredder Orpheus" for the first time in like 20 years and saw the Metaphonics scene on there. Man...Bombshelter Videos, Fallout Records, pre-internet-era hangouts like University Coffee, The Last Exit. Punks and Hippies in the U-Dist instead of yuppies, tweakers, and gangbangers. I miss the old Seattle days when the street culture was fun, Fremont was still a shithole, Broadway was still gay, and music scene was way more eclectic.
