Landslips in NZ are largely a result of government activity. Slips in Auckland last years resulted from council reducing flow into the harbour and floodwaters draining instead from lowest drain inlets, just above some of the city's most valuable real estate. My wife is currently dealing with such a situation. It has taken eighteen months and tens of thousands to get to the point where remedial work can begin on the property. If she did not do the work, chances are a similar event would totally block Auckland's motorway system, separating half a million people from their workplaces and isolating the northern fifth of the country. In this film it is obvious what has caused the problem.
