    I prefer 3m command tape directly to the magnet. 20lb weight limit....no need for the sticker backing or nails

    The same thing happened when my Displate fell. I came home to the outlet, burned slightly around the prong inserts and my Displate on the ground. I bought more magnets on Displate but damn are they expensive. So, I bought more cheaper magnets with adhesive on Amazon. I'm going to try this before nailing anything into the wall, but it makes sense if all else fails. Thanks for the video! *I want to add that I have a ceiling fan close by and I think the air current caused the sticky paper to loosen.

    THANKS! I have the exact same textured dry walls. The sticker would probably not stick and also take down half the wall when removed. I used your method, just with smaller nails in a downward angle, flushed with the magnet. No sticker. WORKED PERFECTLY! 👌

    I live in south western France, literally meters from a technical harbor (place where ships are getting fixed and shit) so also a pretty humid place to live, I got lucky so far but thank you for your video, I ordered 3 new Displates today so... Well... If anything happens I'll watch this video again and nail those magnets down to oblivion. BTW, loved the baseball bat joke and your hat is amazing, where can I order one ? 😊

    Thanks for the simple but effective tip. I hammered my magnet directly into my wall, without removing the protective cover behind it and it's perfect! It even feels sturdier than if I used the sticker. Had to do this because of a textured wallpaper

    • @DerNesor

      I wish I had known this before. My wallpaper is ruined everywhere. (the diplate would stick forever but the wallpaper sticks to the adhesive more than to itself and it split when removing them... and I have 7 in my room :/

    I know I'm like 2 years late to this vid, but still wanted to say thanks! I very much appreciate the info as I'm about to be getting my first set of Displates finally, and absolutely cannot have them randomly falling. Especially since my gaming studio room has 3/4" tongue and groove real wood paneling (house was built in the 50's) so it'll definitely support most anything I put onto it, but the grooves between panels means I generally have to plan ahead of time when it comes to anything that hangs or adheres to the wall. Anyways, this video seems to be the best solution for me and my Displates, so thank you!

    Isn't it better to attach the magnet with gorilla double sided tape or something?

    • @LividLionTV
      @LividLionTV Год назад

      The adhesive doesn’t stick well to begin with. Tape will leave residue on the wall. This situation is specifically for textured drywall

      @@LividLionTVI agree that a tape that's supposed to not leave marks when removed in any event may leave a mark, but so does a nail hammered into the wall. Or?

    • @LividLionTV
      @LividLionTV Год назад

      @@madsleonardholvik3040 the point illustrated by the video to be perfectly blunt is that displate’s mounting mechanism is somewhat inferior in certain situations. Nails will leave small holes. Patching them isn’t difficult if you select a thin nail. Trick is to use one with a very broad head to retain the magnet.

  • @Mal_3D

    Why not link the nails you had?? Ive had my Agents of Shield displate sitting against a wall for over a year because my walls are also textured and the longest it would stay up was like 6 months (Its a large and i bought extra stickers and magnets used like 5 on that mf and it still came down eventually!)

      except, as you see in the comments. lots of folks share my experience, in that the adhesive does not work nearly as well as advertised... as is the case with any "removable adhesive". I'm moving soon so I may follow up this video with some alternative ideas I came up with after perusing my local hardware store to see if I can come up with something that is much less damaging to the wall.

      @@bertram1st if you use a small enough nail with a wide head it shouldn't be an issue. just make sure to use a couple of them. 2-3 should do it. they will leave small pin holes behind the magnet but not enough to mar the wall up. if you are really worried about it you can go ham and use small drywall anchors and screws but that is probably way overkill haha.

    I'm seeing this a lot, the adhesive not working properly in humid environments and resorting to using nails to hold the magnets in place. Its an easy solution but it does defeat the whole 'not having to make holes in your walls' selling point. Even though I don't live in a humid climate I'll stick with the traditional method to hang my framed posters - by using nails. Because I know it works.

      Only issue is that Displate is partnered with a lot of artists who contribute their original fan works to the site. So a lot of their designs aren't available elsewhere.

    Thanks for demonstrating this. First time I finally hear and see about the softness of the magnets. 2 questions though. 1st (not rly important but curious), why white? The nails are covered anyway? ;) and 2nd: I got wallpapers (yeah, old house). You think I could nail the magnets with 4 nails each _without_ using any of the adhesive (also skip the protection leaf) so I won't rip off the whole wallpaper once I remove the magnets?

    • @mastaflex30
      @mastaflex30 2 года назад

      i think nails will be enough to support the magnet, even without the adhesive man... you are good to go. Cause using the glue on wallpapers will be a disaster when you will remove it.

      in my experience the magnet lost adhesion from the wall with the sticker part (step 1) due to humidity and textured wall. if your drywall is smooth this may work better.
